I went in about 1 1/2 to 2 months ago and cut off about 3-4 inches! At first I liked it since I saw it was styled and curled - however after taking several pictures, I've noticed that my hair is EXTREMELY uneven. My daughter was very disappointed with her results. She had Meghan who was a very kind person, we had lots of fun talking and she was a sweet hairdresser. She feels very bad about how it turned out because Meghan was very nice. However, what she asked for is in the first photo below. She wanted it to be great because she is only allowed to dye her hair once in high school and this is her one time. She asked for a cool tone balayage very similar to the one below. However, her balayage has now turned very yellow and almost orange. She specifically asked to not have the hair warm toned so that it would not turn orange but it was still made warm toned. What bothers her the most is that her hair is also much darker than she expected. As you can see in the photo, theres some brown but it's very mostly dark. Meghan said it would get lighter but it only got more orange, not lighter. As said before, this is her only chance to get her hair done so she splurged because she wanted it to make a difference. However, the dark hair is not much different from her original hair. Not only that, her roots are very dark while her money pieces are extremely yellow-orange, with no blending around it or at the money piece roots at all which is not what she asked for. While she enjoyed her hairdresser, she is very disappointed in spending $300 on her only chance to change her hair that is not at all what was asked for. read more

Most of the stylists at Looks Hair Design are great, I've had like 4 different stylists cut my hair there, all really good. Not Raileigh...if you are trying to grow your hair out. Avoid her like the plague. You can request no length off your hair at the beginning, and ask for just a trim, dead ends off, maybe a little bit of texture, and instead she'll cut 8-10 inches off your hair and make it look like crap. I made numerous comments throughout my haircut about growing my hair out, not being good at putting it in a pony tail yet, etc..and still, she just kept cutting. Chopping more and more off until, it was obvious she had screwed something up and was trying to cover it up. I repeat, DO NOT GO TO RAILEIGH if trying to grow your hair out. She was so friendly and attentive to us, all while doing such a thorough job on our mani pedis. The owner also came over to check on us and brought hot chocolate. I have only ever been to one salon back home, and was skeptical about coming to a new one, but I am SO happy that I did. I originally came in for a consult to dye my hair, I was unable to make my original consult due to the INSANE state college friday night traffic, and they were so accommodating and had me rescheduled for the following Monday! The consultation was super quick and easy, and I made my appointment. I was booked with Karsyn, and even though she was booked out for awhile, it was definitely worth the wait! Had my hair done yesterday and it is PERFECT. It was very relaxing and I feel like she really understood what I wanted. She made sure to tone my hair exactly how I wanted it, and made changes until it was just right!! Really great attention to detail and I'm obsessed with my hair!! UPDATE: I am very grateful that Looks Hair Design reached out and was able to fit me in today to fix my haircut. One of their master stylists had me in and out in less than 15 minutes with a refined professional look. Original: Yesterday, I had a haircut appointment during which I mentioned to the stylist that I was graduating from graduate school and officiating a wedding soon. Upon getting home I looked in the mirror and noticed that I still had several stray long hairs around my ears, which I had to fix myself. Carsyn is a mediocre stylist who barely listened to what I wanted. When I told her to retone my hair a second time I could tell she had checked out. She forgot to put in my curtain bangs, had to part my own hair, and had to remind her to put in my layers of which she only put in one. Asked repeatedly for warm toned hair and got warm toned. When talked to the manager, they asked us to come in so they could fix it and turned out it was only a consult? Absolutely not. You can't complain at this shop and without being ran around, compensation being strung out over your head, And yanked away when you express frustration. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

My daughter has read the reviews on instagram on Sarah and went to meet with her. She showed her a picture of what she wanted and said she could 1000 present her her hair lighted like the picture she showed her. She told her it would take about 3.5 hrs and my daughter confirmed she couldn't pay more than $300. When she got there to get her hair done she said she wasn't going to have enough time to get it as lighten as she wanted, but had time to work on someone else while her hair was processing, she could of taken that time she worked on someone else and put the foils in her hair to her scalp. Instead she worked on someone else and didn't do any of the crown of her hair, then charged her $325 and told her she had to pick up her kids by 6 pm so she couldn't style it. Told her to come back tomorrow and she would style it. She hurried and dried her hair, but never combed it or brush it while or after drying it. Sarah's work is awful! Look at the pics and decide for your self! I don't think this is the kind of work you want done on your hair, that charges $325. I will tell everyone to save their money. read more

I've been coming to Looks to see Lien for close to 5 years and I love her and everything she has done for my hair! She's taken me icy blonde when I've wanted a cool light blonde, given me pink and purple highlites when I've wanted something fun and then the most beautiful classic blonde balyage. The options are truly endless! I always look forward to seeing her even though it usually ends up being once every 10-12 weeks. Lien is an incredible hair guru and makes everyone feel so comfortable in her chair. I had a great experience the first time, but I booked Kayla to have my hair cut today and she did phenomenal. This nail salon is truly a classy and well managed establishment. I had a gift card, so I went and got a manicure and pedicure. The experience was truly wonderful, and Kylie did a wonderful job on my nails. This is probably the best gel manicure I have ever received. There are two reasons that I gave 4 stars, and not 5. First this place is expensive, nearly $65 for a basic manicure and pedicure. That would be half the price anywhere else. Secondly, they do not do gel pedicures. I re-located to State College from NYC area about a year ago. I scoured through a bunch of Yelp reviews and finally settled on Looks Hair Design since the salon looked nice on their website and there were many good reviews online. Flash forward to today - I've been going to Lien since that first visit last October and am glad I made the right choice with Looks! Here are some of the reasons for giving Looks 5-stars: Salon appearance - the salon is always looking very pretty and is kept very clean. They have a nifty hair vacuum that they sweep all the hair on the floor into :) Reception/Appointments - the staff is always friendly and offer me coffee/tea/water upon arrival. They offer text messaging for rescheduling appointments which I find very convenient. Also have text message reminders which I appreciate. Convenient Location - I usually park in the Pugh Street garage which is just around the corner and only costs a few dollars for a couple hours. Last & most importantly: Lien - she is always so warm and friendly and a great conversationalist. I enjoy my time at the salon (sometimes a couple hours) catching up with her and getting tips on great places to eat in the area! Lien is a good listener and effortlessly styles my hair so it fits my face shape and whatever mood I'm feeling, whether I'm coming in for a full cut & color, balyage, just a trim & color touch-up, etc. She is a master with color and very knowledgeable about hair in general. I've been here twice in the past month, once for waxing and once for a pedicure. Fallon did my wax and she was so sweet! I was sure to express that I wanted eyebrows thicker than most and she was spot on. It can be tricky because when they hand you that mirror it doesnt matter if they took too much off - nothing you can do! For the pedi: I went with a visiting friend: it was my first time but she is a veteran and gets them every 3 weeks where she lives in Brooklyn. I was delighted, but she was not - she ended up having them redone in less than a week after she went home. She tried to get the technician to take care of a couple sharp edges, but it just didn't happen. Nice ambience, seems like quality work. It's a salon so all the girls (was there a guy???) looked almost identical...I would recommend, but I'm not sure I will pay the extra for the "salon experience" here again. I was thankful they were able to get me in on short notice but short have been weary when my stylist was very late. From there it went downhill it took her a few different toners to make my hair one color... mind you I have only had my hair professionally done. After we finally got the color right I had someone else give me a quote blow out but it was literally just a half hearted hair dry with my roots still wet.
