It was the first time I tried this place and got dip powder manicure done. Outside of the limited color choices available, the finishes of the manicure was uneven and not smooth (you can see in the pictures). Additionally after they were done putting the nail paint, they didn't put any cream/lotion on my hand. It's the first time I have gotten any manicure where it didn't end with a moisturizer. I'm writing this review on behalf of my wife. She went here a month ago for a massage to try to get relief from chronic upper back and neck pain and they were fantastic. She had tried another place in town that uses students and she did not get relief at all. She was feeling so good that several weeks later when the pain was returning she went for another treatment and again got the repeat she was looking for. They do such a good job we have made standing reservations for the next few months to stay ahead of the pain. For the first time since knowing my wife she is living without back and neck pain. It's just so worth it to see my wife living without all that pain. They are a full spa so they have many other services also. The last time my wife was there she got her nails done also. Again, did a great job. Guys, if you want to take care of your wife, this is a great way to do it. read more

Best salon I've ever been to. My gel nails were done very well, with no oversanding or hurting my cuticle when it was cut. The nail artist kept checking at every step that I liked them and was ready to fix anything I had a problem with. My hairstylist cut and blow dryed my hair beautifully, and very efficiently. It was just a trim, but she did it while it was dry to make sure it worked with my curl pattern and fixed up a few spots after washing and drying it. Everyone was so nice, and they were able to work me in despite the short notice I gave them. I couldn't be happier. read more

This is probably one of the best salon/spas in State College. You can get a massage, facial, hair cut or get a manicure here. Christine is great for any waxing needs and/or massage/facial. I've gotten several services done by her over the last year. She's super professional and charming. Average massage/facial is around $80ish. I got my hair colored/cut by Megan. She's really cute and doesn't talk my ear off during my treatments. I was never disappointed with my hair cut or color. Some of my girlfriends go to ''Mandy'' for hair services too. The salon is really clean and I would say makes you feel like you're paying for high quality services. They even offer wine or soda during any treatment. The nail services here are a bit pricey in my opinion, but they don't rush through like other nail salons in town. if you tell them you were referred by a friend, they offer a discount on your hair cut or next color. read more

I have been going to J Stephens to get my hair cut and styled for many years and have never left dissatisfied. One time I described what I wanted, admittedly so, incorrectly and was disappointed. I shared this with this stylist and she immediately did her best on the spot to correct it without becoming annoyed or scolding me (again it was I who described the changes I wanted incorrectly initially). I love this salon so much that I have been driving 2-3 hours for my cuts and highlights for several years and it truly is well worth it. Pleasant office staff and kind, talented stylists. LOVE J. Stephens! Every service I've gotten there is very good. Mandy cuts and colors my hair and I've never been to a better colorist. She saved my hair after other salons had messed up the color so she's great at color repairs as well as new color. Also, the gel manicures are great- polish lasts forever. I went here with a wedding party this past weekend and we had the best experience!! We went two days in a row with the bride, 8 bridesmaids, and both mothers. Everyone loved what they had done! The first day we did our nails and they were super accommodating. As you can imagine, we were there all day and they had no problem with us bringing in food around lunch time, as well as us all hanging out together while everyone got their nails done. We were mostly sitting in the hair washing area which is next to the nails, and they let us- no problem. Of course when someone came who needed the sink we moved, but they were so sweet in letting us hang out all together and not in the waiting area. The next day (wedding day) we all got our hair and makeup done, and I know I can speak for everyone in the party- they made this a wonderful experience! I wanted my hair up in a bun, and one of the women went home to get a sock bun for me to use since they were out of stock in the store! Super accommodating! I received so many compliments the whole wedding day on my hair. We even wanted pictures taken in front of their sign, and they went out of their way to make sure we had perfect lighting and an optimum location for pictures! I swear if I lived closer I would go here for all my beauty needs! These girls were amazing and made us all feel at home all weekend long! I really hope I'm able to cross paths with you all again. I went here twice - first for an eyebrow wax and manicure, both of which I was very pleased with. I'd been looking for a new salon, so I next scheduled a hair appointment and eyebrow wax on the same day. Instead of doing the two appointments separately, my hairstylist said she'd do my brows while I sat in the sink with conditioner on my hair. I think it was probably in part because of the bad lighting and not being in a dedicated room with the equipment, but the brow wax was terrible - no visible shaping and I got home and had to tweeze large, visible hairs from under and between my eyebrows! I called the salon to ask if I could get a credit to my account, since I was unhappy with the service - the woman who answered the phone said she'd have to speak with management, which I can understand, but nobody ever got back to me. I wasn't that upset by the bad brow wax, but not making things right indicates that if they don't want my business, they won't get it! read more
