After venturing to Connecticut and eating at 3 places, we were quite thirsty for some non-chain, quality drinks. This place has it all- unique drinks all crafted using real tea, real milk, & real ingredients by real ppl as stated on their website. We got the Thai milk tea and Hong Kong milk tea. The service was a little slow while the place was empty- staff were friendly. They share the space with Pokemoto, which is a great combo of poke bowls & bubble tea, so if you're hungry, you can kill thirst and hunger in 1 location. The drinks tasted authentic, (super) sweet with a strong tea taste, and reminded us that you can find good drinks in any state you are in. I do wish they offered a smaller size- like a 16 oz option other than just 24 oz. If you're around this area or in New Haven (3 locations), give them a try!
I love Loose Leaf Boba Co. in Wallingford. I get my boba fix every week here since they opened. They conveniently share the space with Pokemoto too if you are looking for a bit to eat, but let's talk tea! They have fresh pressed tea, milk tea, matcha, Vietnamese coffee, and an Inspired Menu. Each drink on the Inspired Menu is unique with fun, delicious flavors. They allow you to personalize your drink with your choice of milk and sweetness level. You can add toppings to your drink like honey boba, red bean, grass jelly, cheese foam and more for an additional charge. Their honey boba is the best. The boba is warm, sweet and the perfect chewy texture. The staff is very helpful with pairing teas with toppings. I wanted to be adventurous and try the cheese foam--they suggested to try it on the Hong Kong Milk Tea. The cheese foam tasted so good, cream cheese flavor with a touch of salt to make a great sweet and savory combo. I have almost tried every Loose Leaf Co.'s drink on the menu. Here are a few of my favorites: Black Sesame Ginger, Matchacado, Golden Matcha Milk, Purple Roots and Original Fifty50. I personally like my drinks at quarter sweet level. This is a place for all tea and boba lovers. I enjoy bringing my friends and family to experience their first boba drink here. They always want to come back for more!
10/10 for the boba here! I had gotten their Thai milk tea at previous Yelp event and found myself in the area today after a rough day at work and knew a nice tall boba would instantly cheer me up and it definitely did! The location here is easy to get to off the Merritt. There is plenty of parking and the spot itself is shared with a poke spot. There are so many unique tea flavors here and what makes this boba spot different is they don't use that artificial tasting powdered tea you get at a typical boba cafe. They make the tea fresh to order and while it may take a bit longer for this, it is absolutely worth it! The boba is fresh and chewy. I got the Hong Kong milk tea with quarter sweetness and it was perfect! Will try the Pandan flavor next time as I've never seen this at any other cafe before. Service was great!
So I've had Boba Tea numerous times. I like it. I "get it" on a certain level. You pick one of a few flavors. It's usually creamy and tastes vaguely like the flavor you select. I don't know the ingredients and I couldn't make it without researching it. Sort of sweet gummy/chewy balls get sucked up in an oversized circumference straw and I chew on them after I swallow the tea. You may get the idea that I don't really get Boba Tea and the people that rave about it. That's fair. But I get Loose Leaf Boba. They tell you exactly what tea they have and what your various options are. Those options include a type of iced tea that I sometimes order or brew at home - a fruit based brewed leaf tea that Loose Leaf made to my requested level of sweetness. The options also include fruit purées and jellies. And of course Boba, which you don't even have to order. Perhaps most importantly, Loose Leaf Boba drinks don't just taste great. They come in attractive clear cups, that act as great display cases for highly customizable, colorful as you want, Instagram closeup worthy, works of art. I saw the gorgeous pictures and almost immediately thought - I want to create one of those. And I did create one. I'm sure somebody somewhere did this first, but I haven't seen pictures of it. I wanted my drink to mostly consist of Loose Leaf's Fantasy Berry Tea, which is an attractive reddish purple type color. I also wanted a layer of white and a layer of yellow. I looked at other pictures of creations from their OG Long Beach, CA Yelp page and I theorized that I could accomplish my goal with lychee jelly and Mango puree. I visited the newish Wallingford Loose Leaf location (which shares space with a Pokemoto) today to see if they could make this to my specifications. I was a little unsure of whether it would work from a liquid dynamics perspective, but the staff went to work without complaint, and made the exact drink I pictured in my mind. It tasted great too. The tea was just what I wanted - slightly sweet and acidic, and not creamy. And the mango layers and lychee layers, allowed me to throw myself sweet fruit curveballs when I wanted a different sip. I easily get why people love Loose Leaf Boba. It's drinkable art! And the Loose Leaf Boba staff members were supportive and helped me do something I can't do on my own. Five Stars. Start designing yours.
Location is in between the Panera and Chipotle! GPS took me to behind Lowe's. Dropped in for the Yelp elite week and ordered myself two drink because the menu had so many different options from fruit shakes, teas, coffees, and matcha. Tried the Purple Root and it was smooth and delicious. Most taro root boba are made from powder but this smoothy is very fresh! Also ordered the Somatcha Coffee and this is now my favorite combo and can't wait to have it again! The staff was super friendly and had the pleasure of meeting the owner who explained the menu and gave some great suggestions. Looking forward to dropping again soon!
I can always count on this location of Loose Leaf to be a quick and successful boba run! While I love the New Haven locations, I greatly appreciate the ease of parking at this one to get my boba fix. Loose Leaf has unique flavors of boba that are freshly brewed tea leaves. No powder to be found (which is always something I check for with places). My favorite here is the matcha strawberry. Their fresh strawberry compote is perfectly sweet and pairs so well with the matcha. I like adding their honey boba or grass jelly as the topping. There are seasonal specials that are unique to this location such as the pandan black sugar bubble tea. The Hong Kong Milk tea at 25% sweetness also brings out the tea flavors and is delicious with the honey boba. Definitely an opportunity to give all the flavors a try is worthwhile!
So I've been to the location in New Haven but this is the first time coming to this one. I tried a new drink I haven't gotten before, the Pandan Coconut drink. It normally comes with pineapple purée but I asked for without because I wanted more coconut. Soo delicious!!! Not many places offer pandan flavoring and I'm glad I was able to have it here. Their drinks are also very pretty in colors! You get a percent off if you order from Pokemoto first. ;)
I've been here 3 times now and ordered the Strawberry Matcha Latte with half the sweetness the first and second visit. Although I enjoy the latte, I wanted to try something different for my third visit. After spotting "pandan" underneath "Black Sugar Latte" on a small sign near the register, I knew I had to have it. I ordered it with oat milk, honey boba, and added matcha with half the sweetness. The drink overall was really good - I loved the caramelized pandan flavor, the chewiness of the boba, and the matcha blended perfectly. I do think that the drink was still on the sweeter side despite getting it halved, which was also the case for the Strawberry Matcha Latte. For my future visits I'll try my lattes with 1/4 the sweetness and look forward to tasting new flavors.
Well I finally made a stop here since Anne C has been posting a bunch of pictures about this place and how she likes it. The shop is nestled in a small strip mall and it shares a space with pokeworks. So if your planning a trip down here you can hit two stops in one. No Pokeworks for me today just the Tea. I went with a Small Strawberry Matcha and Level 2 for Sweetness. I should have asked if the strawberries were really sweet before I said level 2 because I think I could have been fine with zero added sugar. I also added lychee and grass jelly. It was very refreshing and I was happy with my choice I just don't know if it's worth the drive for repeat visits. If I was in the the area I would definitely go again though.
Love this place. It's in same space as Pokemoto and you get a 20% discount if you also purchase something from Pokemoto. The attention to detail is noticeable and it's wonderful that the young staff follows recipes to the "t" (pun intended). Not only are the drinks delicious and the choices many, they are really beautiful to look at, as well. We've had several different drinks and I'll post a few pictures along with the menu but they are all delicious. Highly recommend stopping here whether or not you're getting something from their adjoining partner. The easy to carry to-go bags make it easy to carry out multiple cups at the same time, too.
I stopped in here to get a nice boba drink after hearing great things about the place. It was a little hard to find in the plaza that the goal navigated to, come to find out it's in the Pokemoto restaurant! But there was plenty of parking so not a big deal. The inside was cute and modern and the options were endless! Luckily the folks inside are super helpful and describe the options and what you can get. I got the 50/50 with minimal sweetness with honey boba and found it delicious! I probably could have gone no sweetness at all but I drink my coffee and tea black. I will say it was a little pricey but see that their products are high quality. I'd recommend a stop in!

I highly recommend Loose Leaf Boba if you're looking for matcha or vietnamese inspired drinks! this location is actually connected to Pokemoto, if you're craving some food, you can get it all in one spot! i got their strawberry matcha and all i say is wow! it had the perfect level of sweetness and there was just the right amount of strawberry! i also got their mango cream drink which features their homemade sea salt foam that is made from real cheese - i was skeptical at first but i cannot reccomend it enough it was seriously so good! And the best part is that you can add boba to any of your drinks - adding brown sugar boba to my match was a game changer! read more
The place was pretty empty when I came in - it was combined with a poke spot so that was also an option if you come inside. The space felt pretty clean and it was quiet if you ever want to grab a drink and just sit to do work. The drink was made pretty quickly and they had a good mix of variety - I got a milk tea and it didn't disappoint. Solid price, good quality bubbles, and overall just a good drink. I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm ever in the area for bubble tea again - thanks, Loose Leaf! read more

This was the first time I've ever tried boba and it did not disappoint. I had to sort of navigate the menu myself trying to figure out what kind of milk I wanted or the sweetness I was looking for but in the end, it was a delicious, beautiful creation that I would definitely go back for! read more

This is such a cute spot and what's more-- the boba tea is excellent! (And I'm a boba snob!) Look out for the fact that this shop shares a space with Pokemoto, but has excellent signage so don't get confused-- you're in the right spot! With a much more extensive menu than any other Boba Tea shop I've ever seen, this place will keep you coming back to try more of their unique blends and flavors. read more

Loose Leaf Boba's New Haven location is my favorite place to grab boba tea, so I was very excited to try their Wallingford location! It was very clean inside and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I picked out my go-to, the bananas Foster milk tea, with whole milk, half sweetness, and boba. It tasted perfect! Sharing the space with Pokemoto is a great combination too. I will definitely be back! read more
I am psyched that a boba place is close to my house. Being a boba lover, it was always a trek to get a boba fix in West Hartford or New Haven so I love that this is only 10 minutes away from me. This is newly opened and shares space with pokemoto. I always love getting the classic flavors for boba but there are so many interesting drinks on the board that I had to try something new. It was tough to decide but I tried the strawberry matcha latte with honey boba. It was delicious and not too sweet. Boba was cooked the right way and had the right level of chewiness. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu! read more

My order: Alishan oolong tea 3/4 sweetness +Regular milk +Honey boba (easy) I'm a boba snob from Southern California and typically hate on boba throughout the east coast since moving here a few years ago. Boba came to LA first from Asia/Taiwan, so it's been on our turf for over 2 decades now. But it's like pizza and I'll still indulge whether it's good or bad (but not if it's horrible with like crunchy balls, y'know?). There are a couple places I'll strictly go to to minimize disappointment, in addition to making my own at home. That being said, I will recommend any of my friends back home to come here when in town. While the service wasn't the usually peppy I expect, this cup was the best I've had between Hartford and New Haven spots in the past year alone. There was a rather large amount of milk in my cup but I was thoroughly impressed by the tea-- it was brewed perfectly with the lower amount of astringency I expect in an oolong with a strong but pleasant aroma that presents in higher quality teas when done right. I actually finished it in my car, turned around, and bought another cup. I'm happy to see the LBC on the cup as well. Still showing love back home with my purchase! read more

Stopped in to try it out. I never had boba before and I asked a lot of questions. The staff was very helpful and did not rush me. I ended up getting the Mango Colada sweet level 2 out of 4 with boba and it was delicious!! I loved the coconut milk they used too! If you're feeling like a tea or a sweet drink give them a try. read more

A little background story about how I happened upon this little gem (who's employees will soon grow weary of seeing my face I'm sure ). My youngest son is a foodie just like his momma. We enjoy the same types of food; fresh, clean, natural, from various cultures. We both love to find little gems in our travels and tell each other about them and how the other "would love this place..." "HAVE TO TRY!..." (or not) and why. I've always grown organic foods and pickled, fermented, jarred, froze them (it's so lovely to make sauce from your garden tomatoes in the dead of winter, nothing taste better). Love to cook with fresh ingredients and come from a long line of amazing cooks, as well as lots of background in the industry of food/prepping/cooking/serving. We (my son and I) love finding organically grown, locally sourced fantastic little stores, eateries and shops of all sorts. While driving through Wallingford not long ago, my son, who was visiting, in the car; we passed a sign for Pokemoto poke bowls and we both said "Oooo" then he noticed and said "there's a "loose leaf tea sign in the same shopping center, I'd love to stop on our way back to the house if you don't mind," and both agreed it was a good idea, but on the drive back it totally slipped our minds and we cruised right by... agreeing later that we have to go check it out "next time" Fast forward a few weeks later... I work at a well traveled business hotel and while working two young people sat and we began chatting, laughing and having a nice conversation with a few other residents and me. I asked where they were from and they said LA area of California, they were out here for business to open a new store location, they looked so young I was amazed that he was the founder and she was part owner/business partner. They were so young and down to earth... unassuming, fun, friendly I at first did not realize that they were owners of the business that they were opening out here as I was amazed to find out as he told his story of the very meager beginnings of this business and of his passion and vision, as his business partner explained what makes their boba better, a cut above... different from your average bona served in most asuan restaurants, and how they plan to expand and grow. They were both so interesting and admirable. As I listened I said it sounded familiar until a light went off when they said that their newest store opening was in Wallingford to which I asked, in the same plaza as the poke bowl place?" He replied, "it's actually in that same store as Pokeemoto!" I told him of my son spotting it and our promise to go back and try both... the tea and the poke bowls. So, as promised, my sincere and honest review of Loose leaf Boba: AMAZING! When my children were young they would order boba whenever we went out for Asian food. They would insist I try a sip of their various flavored drinks and eh, ok, a little to syrupy sweet, so nothing I would order... UNTIL NOW AT LOOSELEAF BOBA!!!! Just so freaking good! I had the Black Sesame Ginger Boba Tea with the Oatly Milk option and added honey boba. It was so different from any boba that I've tried in the past. Clean, fresh... Refreshing and alseriously delicious. What I realized from this experience is that ordering a boba in most other restaurants that serve it, is like getting a "latte" from one of those instant latte machines you find in a 7-Eleven or Cumbies instead of going to a great little coffee shop that roasts and grinds their own ethically sourced beans which taste like a little cup of heaven... Unlike Looseleaf Boba, THOSE OTHER BOBAS are made from premade restaurant supply syrups, while Looseleaf Boba brews their own teas fresh (from various loose leaf teas of course), and use real fresh made juices along with flavors made in store using only natural and organic ingredients. So Looseleaf Boba founder and business partner, you were correct, I WOULD and DO love your boba tea! Thank you for sharing your story and vision with me. I am honored to be able to purchase your product right here in Connecticut. I wish you the best of luck with your amazing company and future endeavors. (And, to those reading this review, if you haven't visited their website by now? You should. It's a great read). So... to make a long story a little longer, if you think you've already tried boba, guess again... this is the real deal! You'll be back for more for sure! 2 stars for some of the best tapioca pearls (boba balls) I've had in America. No stars for the tea. The rest of this is unfortunately a negative review from a tea lover and seasoned bubble tea drinker of over 30 years. However, it is based on a single brewed cup of tea. I grew up drinking bubble teas since the 80's up and down both the East and West Coasts and across Asia, where bubble tea was invented in Taiwan. My parents are from Hong Kong and nai cha (HK milk tea)- hot or cold, with or without boba is my morning, afternoon or evening coffee. I don't drink coffee at all. I exclusively drink tea- green, white, red, black, jasmine, oolong and everything in between. I know tea. I make some pretty great boba pearls myself. Sometimes I even make them from scratch. I was really excited to try this highly rated bubble tea place close by. I lived in Southern California during my graduate years and loved the 626 boba tea life (though it's bubble tea, West Coasters, not boba. Boba are the tapioca balls.) If you understand or share any of these experiences, this review is for you. Don't expect this place to be your typical Asian bubble tea joint. This is Americanized like Chinese takeout; food no Chinese person actually makes from scratch or eats at home. Many of the teas are milk teas with Starbucks-like flavors- matcha, coffee, caramel blends. This is Starbucks for non-coffee drinkers. I was recommended some banana drink that supposedly tastes like banana bread. Not what I personally want in a bubble tea, but likely delicious if these are your sought after flavors. Don't expect any Asian flavors other than in the "toppings" portion of the menu where you do find all the normal choices; tapioca, lychee, grass jelly. So my order: I'm a tea lover at a place called Looseleaf Tea Company. Just like I judge a Thai restaurant based on their pad thai or a Korean place on their kimchi, I'm going to test the basics. Normally, that would be a regular milk tea- listed as Hong Kong milk tea. That's the OG. However, I can easily make that home. And quite frankly, $6 is super overpriced when the same is .80 at a Chinese bakery. The menu is devoid of the other typical milk teas flavors that I enjoy (only thai, taro). There are no fruit flavored teas. I mention anyways that I like passion fruit green tea. I am recommended the POG Agua Fresca with jasmine tea and boba, 50% sugar. Passion fruit, Orange and Guava. I'm reminded of the tropics where these are regular juice flavors. I've enjoyed them so this should be fine, right? First sip: I'm wrong. So so wrong. While the boba is sweet and perfectly chewy- the best I've had from a shop in years, the tea is disgustingly bitter. I've order it at 50% sugar, so what's the problem? I'm not sure what the recipe for this concoction is comprised of, but whether its POG fruit juice or separate juices or a dried POG fruit tea blend, they've chosen to leave in remnants of the fruits. On the orange juice scale, it's extra pulp. It is absolutely horrid, making the drink unbearably difficult to down though its 90 degrees out and I've exceptionally thirsty. I've only had 4 or 5 sips and my $6.71 bubble tea is so bitter I can't drink it. I'm sorely disappointed. There are no guava or passion fruit flavors. Just the flavor of bitter orange pith. The mix proportions are wrong or not correctly pressed and brewed. Perhaps the fruit portion expired or the jasmine tea is too concentrated. No drinking tea should be bitter like medicine. Unless you want to throw $7 away, I do not recommend ordering this drink. It's not worth the risk of a poorly concocted or incorrectly proportioned tea. Thankfully it's on their seasonal menu. I can only review what I've had but my experience thus far downgrades Loose Leaf Tea Company lower than the $2 bubble tea shops that use artificial flavoring. At least those are drinkable. Return again? Not likely. Perhaps if I'm with friends and they want to try it out. I would think about getting one of the matcha offerings and only if I want to spend $6 on a hit or miss drink. To the tea shop: you might want to check on your POG mix or it's execution. It's at an F-. But great job on the boba. It is A++ and the only reason I would even consider revisiting any of your store fronts. read more

I have been to this shop twice now and I love it! I'm usually not a fan of the tapioca balls, but I think the ones from loose leaf are really good. I have gotten the Thai Milk Tea twice and it's definitely my go-to place for it now. I've also tried the strawberry matcha which was delicious as well. Overall 10/10 read more

Genuinely the worst boba I've had in my life. The tapioca is nauseatingly sweet and the drink itself is lacking flavor. I can't even bring myself to finish half the drink. I really wanted to love Loose Leaf Boba but it did not even come close to meeting my expectations. read more

So yum! The Assam Black tea with no milk, boba and lychee jelly is THE BEST. They're super efficient and I love that they're a card or tap business! Best tea spot around! read more
