An incredible fish fry. Thick potato pancakes, home made tartar sauce, good fish. And the people are great too!

It's absolutely breathtaking, and in a perfect location - I recommend that you start your morning with a walk around Fowler Lake... it'll help you burn off a few calories from breakfast! So, I've stayed in rooms 6, 12, and 14. Of those rooms, 6 is by far the most impressive. It is one of the most expensive rooms, but well worth every penny. Room 14 is on the cheap side, and also worth the money. I honestly can't say the same for 12... while the bathroom is incredibly beautiful and includes a huge garden tub, the room itself is pretty dark and only has two very small windows. However, that beautiful bathroom is actually inside one of the turrets, so that's pretty cool, too. To get a five star review, the staff really needs to step up their game. We stayed for three nights, and towels / soap / shampoo / conditioner were never replaced. Trash was not taken out. Beds were not made. If I'm paying $200 a night, I do expect those things to be flawlessly taken care of. If it weren't for the building itself, this really would be more of a 3 star review. That being said, the innkeeper was very nice - and we did track anyone down to ask for new towels, etc. So, I certainly can't say we were refused. My tip to you would be that when you check in, ensure that those things will be taken care of if you require them for your stay.

When we travel to see family in Chicago, there are two different ways that we can take. Usually we…read moretake the route through Madison and Rockford to Chicago. The other way which is a bit longer is going through Milwaukee and then down to Chicago. This trip we decided to go the Milwaukee route because we could then stop at one of our favorite places for breakfast (Franks Diner) as well as we wanted to check out an Italian deli that we heard and read good things about. Since we were leaving after work we decided to get a hotel around the halfway point. This would then allow us to get up and make it to Franks in time for breakfast. We located a Comfort Inn in Johnson Creek which is located just outside of Madison. While it looked conveniently located just off of the highway, it took a few minutes to get to their location. Not a big deal. We actually really liked their location as the hotel is located in a neighborhood. This was nice as it was far enough from the highway where you could still hear the vehicles driving, however it was not loud enough to make it hard to sleep. Some of the Yelp reviews were certainly mixed. We found that there was plenty of parking. Check in process was smooth. The room was large and clean. The bed was decent and the shower pressure was decent. They do have a continental breakfast which did not meet what we thought would be a continental breakfast from our previous experience. There was some juice, cereal, granola bars and eggs. Not much of a selection at least when we stopped in. Not that big of a deal for us as we already had breakfast plans. The best part of this hotel was the price. Our room with a king bed was about $100.00. Very affordable! We would certainly consider staying here again next time we take a trip this way.

The couch/sofa was old and pilled; I just didn't use it. The check in was pretty easy. Shout out to Rebecca, who was working the front desk/service area while I stayed. She was really helpful with (1) food, (2) getting my reservation to add an extra day and (3) finding the food I ordered from a nearby restaurant. She even offered plates and plastic cutlery. Hero of the weekend. The negatives are the noise -- kids running up and down the hallways and screaming. I had asked for a remote far away spot when I checked in, but ended up right by the elevator and in a loud corridor. Also, nobody was wearing masks in the hotel. Staff were, yes, and they give you a baby-size hand sanitizer. But the guests at this hotel didn't follow signage. I do wish there were more hand sanitizers around and enforcing masks in public areas.

If I could travel but still enjoy the comforts of my own home, I would. Alas, that's not how reality works, so this Holiday Inn was a decent option when I had to travel for a family member's wedding. My family shared rooms close together, and I think altogether our experience was pretty smooth. My brother and I had plenty of space in the room that we shared; we could spread out and get ourselves organized for the big day. The room was kept clean the entire weekend. And the wi-fi was fairly consistent, too, which I'm always grateful for in a hotel. That said, the layout of the hotel is admittedly...not the most logical thing I've ever seen. Elevators aren't where you expect them to be (and are slow), and I got a fair number of steps in my day just strolling from the lobby, up the stairs, down a long hall, to my hotel room. There's also a very small area for a continental breakfast in the lobby - and I do mean small; it didn't look like there was even room for the basics to me, although I never visited during breakfast hours to confirm that hunch. 3.5 stars from me. The hotel layout is odd, and I could always do with a softer bed; but it was a decent enough stay, especially for this particular location.
