I've used this place twice. The first time, they charged me $600 to replace a serpentine belt. The second and last time, they charged me $1700 to replace a lower ball joint. This price included a lower control arm and brake line which I suspect did not need to be replaced. They also suggested the whole brake assembly also needed to be replaced, which it didn't. I won't go back and look forward to the day they are no longer in business. Denton will be a better place. read more

I wont be going back. Making a long story slightly less long: i took my car in to have some check engine codes looked at and they were able to fix it with some repairs. all good, paid for (im not a mechanic so i wont comment on if i got ripped off or not) and ready to be done with my car troubles. a few days later when refilling my gas i notice my gas cap has been replaced and they didn't note it on the paperwork. i thought it was standard procedure and moved on. next day my check engine light comes on and i take it back. they tell me no charge to fix something as long as it has to do with their work. they hold my car for 48 hours and call to tell me it was a gas cap issue and they have fixed it. i get in, and they want to charge me for a smoke test and a new gas cap, but explain to them that the gas cap in question was one that they put on themselves. and that i wouldn't be back if you guys hadn't changed it. the man at the counter (bruce?) grumped out on me and picked up an already printed set of paperwork ready to charge me for just the physical gas cap instead of work done. my issue is: why were they ready with two sets of paperwork if they actually beleived that the issue was a new one? read more

However, over the past couple of years or so, their quality of work has suffered and quite frankly suck! Their customer service is not what it use to be and they have missed diagnostics on my vehicles. If you want to be disappointed, please take your vehicles here. I have decided not to go back. Being fairly new to the area, I found Charlie Beck's through a friend's recommendation. On my return from a recent trip, my Jeep just wasn't running well. I dropped it off and they gave me a ride home while they worked in it. They took extra care to diagnose the issues and then called to discuss them. They were upfront and honest without trying to over-sell. I actually asked if a tune-up was needed. Their response was "No, everything checks out in that regard. It would be an unnecessary cost." In addition, I needed an inspection. They took care of that while they had it in the shop. Great customer service with fair pricing. This is my new "go to" mechanic. read more

This was a small job and I cannot speak to bigger service challenges BUT we dropped in and she was greeted in the most friendly of ways and we were done in 15 min with the most nominal of charges. Charlie Beck's did a good job fixing my car, and helped compensate for the damage that I sustained at a scummier auto repair place (pro super lube). The only grip I have with them is that they are a bit expensive, and didn't entirely fix my car 100%. There was one lingering issue they couldn't figure out, but they admitted to this and recommended other places to go to fix it. But they got the car running from not being able to start at all, so I can't complain about that! read more

I have been taking my cars here for several years now. Absolutely love it! Bruce and Scotty are very helpful and honest. Vehicles are in and out quick as well. Last time I dropped my car in to have something checked I noticed that the inspection was due and asked if they would run it next door to their inspection shop before I picked it up. "No problem" was the reply I had the car back later that day repaired, inspected, and ready to go. I have a 13 year old car...I walked in saying I wanted to drive it a 2000 mile round trip, telling them I'm sure something's gonna give...I have a lot of money to get it fixed now. I'm know, it's normally pretty stupid to walk in anywhere saying that. But, after changing my oil and giving it a good look, I left paying only for my oil change. They could've taken me to cleaners, but didn't. Up until the that day, where my oil was changed was based on the proximity to where I remembered I needed to get it done. I've been back there for everything I needed since my first visit, which has been tire rotations, oil changes, and a belt replacement which was on par with their estimated mileage time frame they gave me the first day I walked in. Today, when I woke up with a dead battery at 4 am, I walked to work. On my way back home, I stopped in for some pricing. They spent the time to make calls to see what, if any, warranty I had on my battery. When they found that I was on foot, they didn't even hesitate to drive me home. Well, to work first, since I had forgotten my keys there, and then home to fetch my 'dead in the water' car. Within a hour of my walking in their doors, they checked for warranty, drove me several places, replaced my battery and cleaned the massive amounts of corrosion that would have affected the new battery, and got me on my way. I didn't call ahead. I didn't reserve a time, or even ask for a ride home. LESS THAN AN HOUR! And, I'm not the first one. Their office is wallpapered with 'thank you' notes from many about the job well done and from others who would have been otherwise stranded wherever their cars decided to give up. It's voted "Denton's Best" for a reason. No other place I've called in the past has given that level of service. Hopefully, my car will continue to be freak'n awesome, but when it decides not to be, I know where I'll be returning. read more

I took my car there two days ago because it was not starting, he told me I needed a new started, sounded reasonable to me so I decided to pay the overpriced amount they asked me to pay. Picked it up the next day, and second drive I make, my car doesn't start. Took it somewhere else and they said the starter may have been bad, but they can't know for sure, but as mechanics they should of checked every possible reason, and not just go for the easy money. I called them to explain what happened, and Scotty one of the owners was extremely rude to me. Raised his voice immediately saying the starter was bad and it was not his fault my car had all sorts of problems. At this point I just wanted to hang up on the guy. He offered to put my "bad" starter back on, in a sarcastic tone. I'm not sure if Scotty was right and my starter was also bad, however during Christmas break I took my car to the dealer for a check and they didn't find a problem with the starter, only 2 1/2 months ago. Regardless of whether I paid for a service I needed or not, the extreme rudeness I encountered is enough to keep me away from this garage and to recommend other people look elsewhere for car help. read more

I would recommend Beck's to anyone in Denton, it's been around for something like 60 years and some of the guys there have been working cars for 30 years or more.
