This clean and accessible trail, located between and parallel to Alamitos Creek and Camden Avenue, was great for running this past Friday, a level paved pathway surrounded by scenery and nature (plenty of trees and black squirrels), a peaceful atmosphere with a few benches along the way, that's pretty much all I need. The good: I am always looking for an easy trail that I can take my baby in her stroller to. This is a great flat trail not only for strollers but for running, dog walking, biking or roller blading. Most of the trail is shaded and some of it runs along a creek. I like that you can hear the soothing sounds of the running water. It's nice to stroll through the suburban neighborhood. The trail doesn't run consistently because it's broken up by roads. This is also a great path for trail mix. Or so the snack suggests. The bad: There may be a lot of plant debris that would block you from smooth sailing on rollerblades or a skateboard. I don't know if there are any picnic benches or areas around the trail where you can rest. I didn't see any. The interesting: There are almost 5 miles worth of trail here. read more

We finally explored this trail after passing it so many times on the way to Greystone park. This trail has a lot to offer. There is a play structure to the right not far after you cross the bridge at the entrance. Our girls (6 and 8) love running around and playing there. All the times we were there the creek was full and the girls enjoyed walking down and getting close to the water. On our last trip there, the girls spotted some rabbits. The trail is long, flat and paved. There are usually people biking, running and strolling. Though there are usually people out and about, it's quiet and serene. The parking lot can get crowded but there is lots of street parking nearby. If you are looking for a trail, this is one of the best. read more

Great trail! There are 2 ways to enter this trail. The first is on camden and the second is through almaden lake park. I usually go from Almaden lake to camden and then back (I think it is 4.4 miles total round trip). It is dog friendly as well! My pup has a blast. read more

We very much enjoy coming here for a relaxing bike ride. It;s fairly shady and it's lined with pleasant foliage. We usually start at the lake near the bocce ball court. The lake view is always lovely. There are work-out stations along the way, as well as water. There is also an equestrian stop. We find this trail pleasant for bicycling because it is not as crowded as our other near trail, the Los Gatos trail, with strollers and walkers and joggers, so one can peddle freely. read more

This is a great creek trail that meets most, if not all, of my criteria for a trail: 1) Well-maintained A/C path so I can take my son in the jogging stroller and get my run on. 2) Beautiful views of trees, waterways (Los Alamitos Creek) & nice Almaden Valley homes line the way of this trail. Also, this area seems to be immune to the Local Outdoor Enthusiasts(LOE) that usually litter most waterways in SJ these days. The creek here appears to be clean and litter-free. 3) Lots of mostly-friendly people to help you feel safe as you zone out during your walk/run/stroll; this is essential--especially in some of the more isolated spots, and in areas that are prone to LOEs. This trail officially begins at the south end of Winfield Ave adjacent to Almaden Lake and ends at Harry Rd where you can continue along the Calero Creek Trail into Calero Park . The whole thing stretches for about 7-miles round trip. So, plan your day accordingly. read more

Definitely check it out if you're in the area! ++PROS++ + Hikers, bikers, walkers, talkers, strollers, horse riders all are welcome! There is one main trail for everyone, and one horse riding trail-- don't see that every day huh? + Pretty, natural trail along the river/creeks which ends at Almaden Lake entrance. Get ready to see bushes, tree shrubbery, and wild animals! Spotted a white crane once! + Friendly, non-troublesome people sharing the road with ya. + Exercise spots along the trail. Need to do a chin up? Want to stretch? There are various exercise mechanisms for you to utilize! + Picnic tables and benches are along the trail, so you can enjoy and rest. + There are designated park lots where you can park your car! + Pretty tame and straight trail for beginner runners and hikers...and children and dogs! --CONS-- - NO LIGHTS along the trail! Do NOT attempt to take this trail after it gets dark... It gets scary oowee :[ - Limited parking space. Sometimes if it gets too popular, parking spaces can be taken up. I love this trail and I'm lucky enough to live right across the street from it! Whether I'm going on a run or on a nice walk this trail leads to all the parks, neighborhoods, schools and ends at the Almaden lake. Over a past couple years they've repaved the concrete so it's nice to know its being maintained. read more

If your in the southern part of SJ, this is a good trail to burn off all of those calories that you consumed by trying all of those eateries you found on Yelp... =) The trail is paved and there is a line painted in the center to keep north/south traffic on their side. This is especially good for bikers and rollerbladers. (keeps joggers/walkers on one side so you can pass them on the other lane if your on a bike)... It is also flat so there is no strenuous uphills... I personally do not like to jog on the street or road bike due to traffic/cars. You don't have to worry about that with this trial... You can park on Colman at Almaden Lake park and start there which takes you down towards Camden and onto McKean road. Or you can head down Almaden expressway to Camden, turn left and there is another small parking lot on the left. From this lot, you can go north and head up to Almaden Lake or go south and head towards McKean road. You can continue south which will take you down towards Santa Theresa park. There is a dirt creekside trail that you can choose when you head south. read more

A good place to ride your bike and I like the fact that it is connected to Almaden Lake. Beware of pedestrians. I try and ride here at "off" times because there is not a lot of trail sharing etiquette. Early am walkers and dinnertime walkers are the most hazardous. Otherwise, a good place to ride and safe route to link one side of Almaden Lake to the other side of Coleman Ave. and get to the Oakridge area. read more

This flatten, paved trail begins at Almaden Lake Park in San Jose and runs along Los Alamitos creek. If you imagine yourself running along the rushing waters indulging in its sound, forget it! Most of the way the creek hides behind the heavy vegetation, and you can't see it. The trail is very well maintained, has few drinking fountains, picnic tables, and interpretative signs here and there, but no special views or interesting corners along its 4-5 miles. If you find the Coyote Trail boring, stop wasting your time reading this review, because you'll dislike this trail as well. No addend thrills here. However, it is a great trail for just exercise, or for families with small kids who want to bike, hike, or skate on a long enough paved, strait, flatten trail. read more

I run on this trail once or twice a week! I love that it's nice and wide, safe, and there is LOTS OF SHADE. If you're the kind of person who likes to work out while you walk or run, there are also work out stations along the way. There is plenty of water along the way too. I know it seems like kind of a sissy thing, but as a girl running by myself, I'm always nervous to try to run somewhere I don't know very well. I'm glad that I decided to go try it out because there are always a ton of people on this trail. read more

This is a great trail if you want a nice walk with the kidlet and the dogs. I came here with some friends (including my godson and his mama) and their pets. It was a really relaxing walk next to the creek. We started out next to the Almaden Lake and headed off onto the trail. It was joined by the Guadalupe River Trail. Going there and back from the car to the end of the trail was about 4 miles and the small dogs were all tired out). It's a great trail in all types of weather. Be careful, there are lots of bikers on the path so be nice and move over to one side to let them by. read more

This trail is lovely. There is plenty of shade and plenty of room for everyone to be able to share the trail. I love to jog here and take walks with my boys and my dog. Totally stroller friendly. You can park at the lake for free if you have a city parking pass so that is nice. This trail is a good place for a quick run, as it is mostly flat, partially shaded, and usually occupied enough for a solo runner to feel safe. The creek makes the experience feel more like a trail run. There are a couple water fountains located along the path, as well as shaded benches and exercise stations. Watch out for bicyclists and rogue dogs (even when they're on a leash). From the parking lot on Camden to the gate into Almaden Lake Park is almost exactly 1.5 miles, so it's easy to map out a 5K. read more

This is a fairly scenic trail that has a little bit of everything. On this particular day, I started just outside at the Almaden Lake trail and ventured onto the Los Alamitos Creek Trail for a nice 6 mile run It winds through parks, a lake area and up and around the almaden valley area of home which are typically of the nicer variety On a beautiful sunny day, this is a nice way to spend it if you are local to the area! read more

I HAD A GREAT RIDE THIS MORNING: The Los Alamitos Creek Trail is located in the southern portion of the city. The trail runs along the creek from Los Alamitos Park and Lake Almaden south to McKean Road. The trail offers a semi-rural setting, passing through Pfeiffer Park. From Almaden Park past Winfield Blvd, the trail runs along the east side of the creek, passing under Mazzone Drive and continues on about a mile to Pfeiffer Park. There is a bridge at Pfeiffer Park across the creek to Camden Ave and Mt Forest Drive. From there, the trail continues on the west bank to across Graystone Lane to Camden Ave and Queenswood Way. Between Camden Avenue and McKean Road, there are trails on either sided of the creek. This trail has street crossings at Graystone Lane and Camden Ave. The Los Alamitos Creek Trail is excellent for hiking, cycling and roller skating. read more

I've seen this trail go through a lot of improvements over the years as an Almaden resident for 20+ years...it's nicely paved, with painted lines, and lots of fitness guides throughout the trail. It's pretty flat for the most part. Great place to run, walk, bike, or ride your horse. I love running near water and this trail hugs the creek pretty closely. It leads to Almaden Lake and continues past it, but not around it. So keep that in mind if you wanted to do a loop around the lake...not possible unless you run outside the park and onto Coleman/Almaden Expy. =P Approximately 3.75 miles from the beginning at McKean/Harry Rd to Almaden Lake. read more

This trail is so close to my house and I'm literally walking on it every day with my dogs. Most of the bike riders are courteous and call out before they pass. The Santa Clara Valley water District keeps most of the trees trimmed that would get in one's way. I always feel like I'm taking a walk in the country even though I'm a city girl. I highly recommend taking the walk from the bridge along Camden to Lake Almaden which is a 3 mile round-trip. read more

A great place to run! Probably my favorite. Quiet, and safe. Sometimes you see deer. Nice flowers all along it right now. However, I sure wish someone would turn on the two drinking fountains along the trail. The first is about .5 mile from the lake and the second is about 1.5 miles. Both are before the bridge. Were they shut off for the winter because the pipes might freeze? Last week I was 10 miles into a run, very thirsty and all the fountains were off, even the ones at the lake. It looks like the lake fountains are back on, but not the trail. It would be really nice to have a 3rd one beyond the bridge. read more

Went here today for a walk to change things up from my usual places. It's a pretty walk, a mix of sun and shade and well maintained. It seemed to be rather narrow so I am glad it wasn't busy today. Paved and marked trail, walkable/runnable year-round and in all kinds of weather. Mostly flat. I've found people on this trail are friendly and exercise good trail etiquette. It's a treat to walk along a clean, happy creek with native plant sights and smells right alongside a residential neighborhood. read more

Although the times I've come here haven't been to bike, at least not yet, the same paved paths are used to run. Los Alamitos Creek Trail begins at Almaden Lake Park with round-trip estimated 8-9 miles. The opposite side of Almaden Lake Park is the Guadalupe River Trail which is also a good biking/running paved trail. If you so feel inclined doing both Los Alamitos Creek and Guadalupe River Trail they put you over 15 miles round trip. Both trails are relatively flat. The path is not too wide but thankfully there's not an over abundance of foot traffic. That's not to say you'll be the only one. Many people come to bike, walk and run. The path runs along the creek with semi-interesting views. Scenery is okay. Some of the path is shaded which provides good relief when it's extra sunny. Other parts are exposed so be cautious when the weather is really hot. You'll definitely work up a good sweat. The trail is maintained but I admit I wish the trail was marked better as there are other trails that veer off the path. read more

Good place to walk/jog/bike ONLY if you live close. No point in driving here for this trail; there are much better opportunities elsewhere. I would have given it a two star if I drove here, but I have a lot of childhood memories here since my whole family used to ride to Almaden Lake together. The most interesting section of this trail is the section next to Camden Avenue, where there is a separate unpaved singletrack section on the creek side of the trail. This will be a nice change for trail users as it is mostly shaded. Watch out for speedy bikes on here as there are lots of blind corners. This singletrack section is excellent for beginning mountain bikers to get their first taste of singletrack. But watch out: the area is overgrown with poison oak for most of the year, and there was one time when a swarm of tick eggs hatched and I ended up with a bunch of baby ticks climbing up my pants. Not a fun sight to see. Fortunately I got all of them off before they attached to my skin, and I haven't had a problem with ticks there since. Hopefully it was an isolated incident. Not much wildlife to see here except rabbits, squirrels, and sometimes deer because there are so many people walking around, although on rare occasions I have seen coyote, egrets, and a great blue heron. read more

This is a fully paved scenic trail which runs along the Los Alamitos Creek. Currently it is more enjoyable because of recent rainfall, spring flowers and cooler temperature. The trail was not muddy and it is great for walking, hiking, running however early morning or late evening would be a good time as there is not much shade along the trail. This is out and back trail - 3.9Miles one way. If you are starting from Lake Almaden then the trailhead is located at the south end of the parking lot. Parking fees $6 is charged at lake Almaden. Free street parking available if you find any. read more

Love this trail for it's 80% shaded with trees, and the paved trail is well-maintained. I went on a weekday and encountered other joggers, walkers, and bicyclists every couple of minutes; you never feel like you're completely isolated and alone, which gives you comfort and a sense of safety. I've only gone for the southern half of the trail, but plan on returning to do the other half that goes towards Almaden Lake. read more

A nice, gentle 1.5 mile each way paved path. The perfect length round trip for quick 20-30 min puppy run. The quarter mile markers help with pacing. There are bikers and even a horse trail though I didn't see any horses when I went. Some reviews say the path is too narrow for the traffic but I didn't find this to be the case. The path is plenty wide enough. I didn't feel anxious as bikers passed by. read more

this is a really nice trail to run along! i never had the chance to try it out until last year's thanksgiving day turkey trot which began at leland high school, ran along this trail, and ended back at the high school. the trail winds through some really nice parts of san jose that i'd never seen before....no shortage of trees, rivers, and plants here! unfortunately, since it's so narrow, sharing the trail with other runners, walkers, children in strollers, and pets can be tricky. there are markers along the way, yellow painted numbers on short stumps, so you can figure out how far you've gone. i didn't see any restrooms, at least, not on the part of the trail that i was on, so make sure you loo up before you start your journey along this trail. i hope to be back here soon, so that i can run along the other parts of the trail and explore more of the natural beauty that it has to offer. read more
