    Dog Friendly Trail

My favorite trail for a walk, hike, bike ride, jog, or walk the dog. The trail is family friendly. Connects Campbell to Los Gatos Vasona Park and more. Beautiful views, birds and wildlife. There are parking spots o the street throughout the trail and even designated parking lots. Restrooms are also sprinkled along the trail. I highly recommend you check this trail out.

Los Gatos trail towards campbell park. This biggie was chillin' on the trail. moved it off the trail so it wouldn't get run over by bikers

Great area to walk, bike and enjoy the outdoors. It's easy to get to and it breaks up the busy environment bordering the freeway. The one thing that could make it better would be to have a park ranger attendant there full time. Beautiful place and it's peaceful for the most part.

I love how close this trail is and that it is paved. Whether you are a walker, runner or biker - this is an easy trail that is conducive to all. I would recommend this to all ages and stages of fitness. One thing of caution - not all bicyclists notify you if they are coming - so make sure you stay on the right side - in your lane.

"This is Why People Move to California!" Yes, it's true. This trail is 100% free and a delightful ride. The city and county has done a great job at providing such a wonderful asset for the citizens. I started my ride today at the trailhead at Meridian. I believe this is the furthest northern entrance to the trail. There's easy street parking at that location, across the street from the KFC restaurant. This appears to be a safe area. In general, the trail is smooth and easy to ride or jog on. I rode the trail on my old fashioned steel hybrid bike. It's an easy ride, especially if you've just had knee surgery. But even if you haven't had recent knee surgery, you're still allowed to ride the trail. I visited on a Wednesday in the summer, and there were quite a few people on the trail. In most spots, the trail is wide enough, but under some bridges, it can be very narrow, so take care. When you're riding under the bridges, please sound the bell, so you don't run into anyone. It would be terrible to fall into the creek and have to be fished out. You would be so embarrassed--plus, your clothes would be all wet. What would you do then? The trail is nearly flat, with gentle rolling sections. The trail goes under major streets, so you don't have to wait for a signal at intersections. Of course, this also makes it a lot more safe. It appears that the northern part of the trail is not nearly as nice as when you get to Campbell. There are some absolutely gorgeous sections by Campbell; unfortunately there are some not-so-great sections around San Jose, where the homeless have decided to camp near the trail. I saw one tent on the creek itself. I did not see any facilities on the trail itself, but the nearby parks have restrooms and drinking faucets. There are many parks adjacent to the trail. For the engineers in the group, check out the percolation ponds, which help replenish the aquifers. I also came across some casting ponds. However, there was a big sign that said "No hooks." I did not bring any hooks with me, so the sign was sort of redundant. So overall, a good choice for a pleasant day of strolling or biking. There's a long history to this creek and its water supply to the surrounding area. Pick up one of the trail brochures, which has more information.

Went to this trail for the first time two years ago and I still enjoy coming for a peace of mind. It has so many great views, you can't stop taking photos on the trail. Crowd is always nice every time I go. I've taken many of my friends to this trail with me and they loved it as much as I do!

This is a lovely, moderate hike that takes about 1.5 hours to complete. It was easy for me, but tougher for my friend who had her 150 pound husky dragging her. It was 65 degrees, which was perfect weather for that trail. Bring water for you and your dog because there's no water fountain. Depending where you start, half of it is uphill and half is downhill; I suggest starting uphill first (from the downtown trail head, you'd stay left to do the uphill trail and right to start on the downhill trail). It has a good mix of hills, flat ground, a lake and streams; areas completely shaded and open areas that are unshaded with a few spots with gorgeous views. After getting rain the day before, the stream was running full and beautiful. We even ran into a beautiful deer! The trail along the freeway was less peaceful due to the noise, but what can you do? This is a full loop trail so you'll always end up where you started. There's plenty of parking downtown but be sure to read signs where so you don't get towed. It's nice to park downtown because after an active hike, you can enjoy a nice brunch at one of the numerous restaurants in beautiful downtown Los Gatos. Overall, love this hike because it's a good mix of being challenging enough, while feeling peaceful amongst nature and in a prime location!

This is one of my favorite trails to walk with my puppies. I access the trail on E Main Ave near Purple Onion Cafe. Parking is generous, I've never had any issues finding parking even on the weekends. The shaded trail runs alongside the creek then veers uphill leading to a residential neighborhood and back down to E Main Ave. I would suggest wearing a hat and sun protection as the second half of the walk offers no shade. It's approximately 2 miles total which is perfect for a quick hike.

Love this shaded trail, but too many people. We completed a short 6 mile ride from the parking lot. Need to ride longer next time.

Ask the Community - Los Gatos Creek Trail

    Good fishing? Dogs?

The fishing is okay. The pond is stocked with DFG fish. It's great to just hang out with your pole in the water regardless of catching fish or not.…

Is swimming something that can be accomplished?

Although swimming can be "accomplished", it is not allowed. Currently, only fishing and boating are allowed.…

Is this an easy bike ride? Is there enough space foe both pedestarians and bike riders?

Yes! If you enter the trail from Main St. you will see the trail fork off, if you go straight there's a flat bike trail and if you turn left and go up the hill it's a more steep uphill hike on the left side

    Can I take my dog?

    yes leashed

My daughter is in town and wants to hike. She is looking for something with some incline to it, however I don't hike much. Would this trail be a good compromise?

This trail is pretty flat (and paved) until you get to the Downtown Los Gatos area where the trail becomes a dirt trail that splits by the Main St. bridge (headed south) and continues up some hills to the left until you reach Lexington Dam. Hope…

Is there seats for rest what are the ages of people in the am hours?

Yes, there are some benches along the way

Is there a list of free parking spaces at the diff entry points? Trying to find a good (free+safe) place to park near one of the entry points but the website is useless. I can't even find trail maps!

Hi Sunny! I like parking by Campbell Park. The park literally connects you to the trail plus, you're also a few blocks away from Downtown Campbell (which also has parking garages if you don't mind walking further. :)

Are there mile markers on this trail?

    Yes, there are.

I went on the Mount Umunhum out and back trail. Still pretty green with some wildflowers! There were a decent amount of hikers, and lots of bicyclists. Seems like a very popular spot for mountain bikers! Had to watch out for cyclists most of the hike. Along the trail, there were some informational posts about the mountain's history and at the summit, there was a neat informational site, Native American pow wow example, and good balcony for pictures. Learned that Umunhum has that name because the Natives thought it sounded like a hummingbird! Partially shaded but I still recommend going in the morning. There were lots of switchbacks so the hike felt long - took me around 3 hours and 15 minutes including breaks to complete. When I came back around 11:45am, the parking lot was full and some people were parked on the side of the road. Overall, I would classify the Mount Umunhum trail as moderately difficult. Because of the switchbacks, the incline is very gradual but the hike feels longer. Good views and trails were well-maintained with markers. The constant cyclists slightly detracted from the hiking experience, but I would still recommend!
