Yes, I want to go to the Weiner races! I have never been to this race course and I had no idea what to expect. It was crazy busy when we arrived and the lines of cars to get into the parking lot were long. So we parked a block away in the residential area and walked in. It cost $3 to enter. But, all the proceeds went to the Seal Beach Animal Shelter. We quickly purchased our tickets, but it was insane to see that multiple lines of people were then forced to use one single person escalator to get inside. By the time we got inside, floor level standing room only was available. We were happy to find some chairs and took a seat. To get the crowd going, Weinersnitzel t-shirts, stuffed animals, and hats were thrown into the crowd. The weiner races alternated with horse races. The dogs were beyond adorable and it was fun to watch even though it was tough to see at times. I didn't stay for all 15 heats which ended at 9:30 pm. The lines for food and alcohol were super long. Next time, I'll prepare better. I would bring food, drinks, and chairs for ground level seating. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen. A sign posted said no food or drinks. There was no one checking and I walked in with my Yeti without being stopped. Overall, I found the event to be adorable. However, the. Venue itself was a bit outdated with no organization. read more

On the older side, not very modern but is a throwback to places like Hollywood Park in some ways...tv sets are on the older side...beer selection isn't great and probably wouldn't eat here outside of the Vessels club which seems to be the upscale place in the track....decent horse races in the day when the thoroughbreds are here, the quarter horses at night are okay as well but a totally different type of racing....have been here a few times now and wouldn't hesitate to return again in future if the opportunity presented itself....not for everyone but for those interested in racing it is highly recommended.... read more

This is my new favorite place! My family has been coming here for decades, and I was last to join the bandwagon. The atmosphere, ambiance, and entire experience was fantastic. We brought my grandpa, who is an avid horse better, to watch the final races the Saturday of Easter weekend. The weather was glorious and we had a fantastic time. Drinks were reasonably priced. Review is for their wedding venue. Having grown up here it was fun to revisit the old stomping grounds in celebrating my cousin's wedding. The last time I was here was in 1984! But I digress. The venue was clean, retro and actually kinda cool. It was neat to be able to have drinks on the veranda overlooking the grandstands and onto track while having drinks in between the wedding ceremony and the banquet. The reception area, the old bar room, was great with high ceilings, classic deco accents and large crystal chandeliers. Loved the vibe. The food catered was tasty. Filet mignon was a bit overdone, but the salmon was good. Acoustics were very loud throughout the dinner service due to the hard walls. Nostalgia aside, 5 star for a wedding venue. Catering was 3 stars for overcooked filet mignon and 5 stars for the bar keeps because they were on fire. read more

It's a fun place. However, unfortunately, they have never been able to control illegal doping and fixing of races. Do a Google query of suspended trainers and jockeys. You will be appalled by the results. Additionally, the gate starter often starts races when the favorite is antsy and moving and the gate crew holds favorites at the start of the race at a high frequency. If you like random gambling go for it. However, this track has never been legitimate. They cannot be trusted. read more

Growing up my grandfather always brought me to the track. Fast forward to adulthood some things never change. It is still a couple bucks to get in and $2.00 minimum bets. Plenty of seating both indoor and outdoors. I prefer sitting upstairs at the tables with the little tableside monitors. It gives me room for to set up my snacks, racebook and highlighters. I'm still learning how to bet, but I've been pretty lucky so far They offer daytime and night racing. Even wienerdog racing. Food and drinks are a bit pricey so I bring my own. Outside food is not permitted but they really don't check. Great way to spend the evening for a few hours. read more

The track itself is nice and well-maintained. Concessions are reasonably good, also. The place is terribly dirty and not maintained. I saw a discarded ticket dated from several days ago. The grandstand seating was dirty when we arrived, so they'd obviously not been cleaned. There was no security check to enter and no security or ushers to be found in the seating areas. The "no smoking" policy is ignored in the posted areas, and no one to enforce it. The employees I encountered were pleasant and helpful. read more

Dirty tables because they never clean. Also TV's are small and hard to see. No food to eat until 2.00 p.m. this guy is getting old and will be gone soon. Don't go there. Also when you go up to the vessels the person sits you down where they want you to sit and there's no one even in there. People want to eat and they only have hotdogs and salad. The room next to the clubhouse has tv's that you can't even see there so out dated. If you go to Santa Anita there constantly upgrading things to make it better for the consumer. Also the lady security guard that works outside patrolling is an asshole. The vessels club house should be first come first serve and this is why it's empty all the time. I know lots of friends that don't go there anymore. I brought a soft drink in there and the guy at the front gate told me I couldn't come in. You can bring coolers into Santa Anita with lots of food and drinks with no problem. You guys are just scaring everybody away from this place. I used to go into burkarts but 10.00 is a joke. Maybe because they are comparing it to other race tracks but I have nothing to compare it to. I had so much fun. Entrance was $3 per person. Seniors $2. Bets are cheap and can be as low as $1. Fun experience with kiddos and especially fantastic with the weenier dog races! The sun is intense during evenings so be prepared for the sun and sunburns. The restaurant with a table was nice to relax with tvs to also watch the races however no relief from the sun. read more

What a fun and exciting place !! Had a great night out with my 9yr old son , fun old school spot to grab some food and watch the ponys run !! Awesome it is race trackers right over my back wall. 12 horses of died there in the last week . If you read the reports it's due to insect bites. There's also many horses quarantined.. I've been paying for pest control for many years since his home has been built. Due to the flying fest I know it's killing the horses. What do you think it's due to these people these new homes. It's sad to hear about all of the recent tragedies on the track, with that aside it is a beautiful park. Went when they had dollar beer and hotdogs, had a very nice time and even won some money. Go for the view, stay for the bets, and leave with a full stomach. The food is nothing to write home about, what do you expect, it's a race track. It was our first time so it was a bit confusing getting all situated, but once we figured out where everything was we had no problem getting back to our box seats and watching the races. The one thing that drops raining a little bit is there's trash all over the place, and we didn't see too many staff putting anything up. I was at the church literally next-door for a classical music recital. We did plan to go for a belated birthday dinner afterwards . My mom and her fiancé had been out of town for both of our birthdays . I was allowed to pick which restaurant so of course I picked the race track. I mean it was just the right thing to do with the gas prices being so high. From church to the race track. Let me tell you something about Christians we are not perfect. That's why we go to church. If you ever read any of my reviews you know that I'm a horse girl . It's just amazing how strong these animals are . It crazy all they eat is hay grass and supplements . I have so much respect for the horse . In my 20s I used to go to the racetrack all the time. My friend was definitely a regular . It really is a lovely way to spend the day outdoors . Watching some of my favorite four-legged friends show their skills . It's a very social event always running into a lot of old Hollywood people. I remember seeing Bob Hope a lot. Here's my tip on going to the race track pay fee to eat at the club. Then be a good little networker and befriend a regular. This is where my gift gab comes into play . For me personally this is a great place for me to come because I am a senior companion . I can get potential work here . I booked a reservation for the Vessels Club for Weiner Nationals. Rueben was a great help! My guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I think the "getting in the gate process" and the "getting in to the Vessels Club" process could have been a bit easier / better but all-in-all it all worked. Everyone said the food on the buffet was excellent. There wasn't much for me to eat that was gluten-free/dairy-free, only fruit, grilled vegetables, and a piece of beef. I was able to park for free and enter the race track through Burgrat for free. A dirty place full of weird uncles & divorced dads, wannabe cowboys, smoking southeast asians in Members Only jackets, unsupervised Tasmanian-Devil like kids, and Hispanics who will stare at your girl. Basically, the crowd is "People Who Fish Off of Piers." That said, I love it! It's great for GROUPS because it's super cheap to get in, with plenty of free parking and plenty of seating for all. Unlike a movie, there's no specific time you need to get there, and groups can just meet there. You have the choice of being inside or out, so you're never too hot or too cold, and you can walk around, viewing from the stands or up close on the rails. Don't miss the old school heavy-duty air hockey table in the arcade, the makeshift tv studio, the pre-race stables, and the winner's circle. And, of course, there's ALCOHOL. It's also great for FIRST DATES because it's a unique experience. (Plus, girls like horsies). Just don't let her see the horse's penises. Did I mention alcohol? The Mexican food is good, though I always wonder if I'm eating the horses who broke their legs. Hey, this #5 tastes like #4. Where's the alcohol? TIPS: Look east near the horizon for the Disneyland fireworks summer nights at 9:30. I mean, they'll be the size of your thumbnail, but they're still fireworks. And, every early June they have WIENER DOG races. Seriously. I couldn't get a seat last time I tried to go. It's ruff. As far as actually betting, if you don't know what you're doing, you can bet just $1 a race, every 20 minutes, with no risk. Newbies should just bet on ONE horse to SHOW- you won't win much, but the bet is easy, the odds are best, and it's easier to root for just one horse. If you place your bet with a human, just say "Los Alamitos, Race 4, $1 on Horse 6 to show". So go to the horse races. You will have fun, fo' (win place or) sho! Los Alimitos is the best racetrack in the OC. I have been coming here a long time to get my gamble on my horse. Very good casual atmosphere. People come from all over the world to exploration. Food is good and great people work here. Id love to see more races in the future. read more

I decided to come here with some friends and it was a fantastic time. It was a relatively slow night but nevertheless we want to couple and lost on a few. We ate at the clubhouse restaurant and the food was pretty decent. If you're in the area or feel like they would all drive to Los Alamitos racetrack it's definitely a great way to spend a night. read more

$3 admission & free parking. Every year we go to the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Dog Races. This year it was on July 9th, 2011. Get there early as not everyone gets a seat. We get there really really early as there are some seats that are protected by shade and have a mini table and they are FREE. We bring Windex, paper towels, seat cushions, cameras, sunscreen, and playing cards if you are not engaging in off track betting. Reminder to self: Bring Binoculars. We stay overnight next door at Marriot's The Residence Inn. This place is Wowee Kazowee. Kids come to these races. I think it works out fine. Here is how it works: Wiener Dog Heat : Dachshunds race. Winner moves on to a future race. No betting. Horse Races are mixed in. Seal Beach Animal Rescue does a raffle for prizes like Gift Cards and a TV. 2 years ago I won a subscription to Doxie Digest. Kinda Silly. I shared it with students and quickly learned who loved Dachshunds. The 2 students & I and a parent really bonded over this. Seal Beach Animal Rescue sells Dachshund related T-Shirts (3/$25 or 1/$10), hats, etc. The sunset was beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous. This year, the first race began at 6:30 PM and the last horse race ended @ 10:30 PM. At 9:30 you can see a great fireworks show via Disneyland. ________________________________________________________ I am 40something ...... what turns me into a kid fast.... is when Wienerschnitzel throws prizes into the crowd. This year I happened upon a GOLD WIENIE. It is a Gold Plastic antenna topper. I lost $50 at the horse races. Yet, I was so happy I won the prize. Go Figure. ________________________________________________________ 11 of us gathered here on July 9th, 2011. Every year we get bigger and bigger. Pretty chill place to watch some good ol' horse racing. Parking is free here and apparently admission is free too if you come towards the end. We came during race 6 of 8 that day and there was no one in the front checking tickets so we just walked in lol. Regardless, I still indirectly paid by admission fee by making some stupid bets on the races but it was fun regardless. The track atmosphere here is okay, I've seen better at Del Mar and Santa Anita though. There is not as many people at Los Alamitos so it's not as hyped up as the other venues. Drinks here are kind of pricey. The menu at the main bar says $6.75 for a 16 ounce pint but they end up pouring it in a plastic 10 oz cup instead. Kind of deceiving. There are lots of seating here which is nice. I really like that there is even ample stadium-style seating outside in which you don't even have to pay for. There are free often promotions here if you go on the weekends. I know they were giving away free drawstring backpacks during the weekend of the week I went. The people working here a very grouchy lol. When you ask them questions, they get annoyed. Whatevvs. Still a decent spot to check out the races if you live around North OC or Long Beach area. read more
