HEMET's BEST MEXICAN MARKET! Even though customer service can be spotty on some occasions, I can always count on the food at Los Altos! I get their refried beans on the regular as they're always fresh and ready to eat. It's $3.99 per each pound and they put the ready made beans in a container for you. Essentially, I'm picking up my dinner and I don't have to cook. The beans are 90% very fresh and flavorful. You can't beat Mexican beans! I'm also an avid pan dulce fan which means I HAVE to at least stop by the bakery up front and pick up a gingerbread pig or Mexican chocolate chip cookie! The bread is made fresh each day and is constantly rotated. I've never gotten sweet bread that's been sitting there all day! It's always delicious and soft. Once in a blue moon, I stop at the in-store restaurant and it's home to some pretty solid food. Locals stand by it and there's plenty of seating in the dining area. The carnicería (meat market) is long and offers a variety of seafood, meats and more. I usually don't grab anything from there but it's definitely popular. As for ambiance, a lot of the folks I encounter are borderline depressed or troubled. I've never gotten a truly rude person, but the situation here with the staff is a bit awkward. Was recommended for some tacos . Waited in line and I saw one of the employee getting tacos ready and saw her stick her hand the onions and cilantro & then wipes her hands on her apron Then proceeds to grab the spatula to add salsa to the tacos and go and grabs a ticket to start her next order . So I asked the lady "you guys don't wear gloves after sticking your hand in the onions ?" She said we only touch food and I said " i literally watched the lady clean her hands on her apron and start working on the next order then she asked me who did it while still having her back towards me and ignores me after I tell her who did it , but honestly worst service !!! read more

I do a long drive exclusively for pan dulce that my toddlers love to eat, he came up to me saying there was something inside so I came to take a look and saw what it looks to be a small piece of plastic bag inside the bread. I don't want to even imagine him or my other kids eating this. I hope people working here try to be more cautious about this matter, pan dulce is a very desirable food for my kids and I wouldn't have like them eating this and then having a stomach ache or something worse happening to them because of this. read more

Staff need more people skills and better mannerisms. Every time people walk in, no one greets you. You're literally standing there getting sweet bread and the employees walk out to stock up more bread, they don't say "good morning" or "excuse me".. they just want to walk by like burros, do their thing and walk away. I found this place on accident and let me tell you what a hidden gem this place is. It took me a bit to figure out how big this place actually is. They have a great vegetable selection and an amazing meat collection, however, they are expensive. I found a section in the back with a table 5 for $10.00. They have a section where they make tortillas. I commented to her how good they smell and she handed one right off the belt (see pic). It was nice, warm, and delicious! Los Altos is extremely clean. The employees were all very kind. The only negatives are store parking is weird. They need to fix that clear fridge door and get that tacky plastic off of there. This place could also use a new paint job. And I would really appreciate it if the bakery ladies would make some healthy Bran muffins. Please and thank you! read more

The BEST carnitas I've had. They're so juicy and perfectly seasoned. It's Tiny old market needs to be outdated. Kinda dark thru the isle. Not too many options when it comes to masa for tamales, not sure how I truly feel about this market. I don't think I'm coming back I prefer Cardenas over this place. read more

Best little Mexican store in town! Always fresh tortillas, Mexican bread and bolillos are made daily. Produce is fresh and great prices. Meat department in my opinion is very good quality. First, tortillas, are a need! Super good, thick, and fresh! But than again, anything good, thick and fresh is always one wants to indulge on. Second, rice and beans are average. Carnitas are really good, and I ate this whole plate without a fork and knife. Only tearing the tortilla and grabbing the piece I want and stuffing it in my mouth! Just like at moms! Hard times in the community due to Covid19. I tried to see things in a sense that we should shop small businesses... Yet I came in and purchased meat and prices were 6.99, 7.99, 8.99 and 9.99(ground beef, trositos de Puerco, cubed beef and non seasoned ranchera... So much for supporting small businesses. I did report them to consumer affairs for PRICE GOUGING.. this store and surrounding stores (El Toro) such a shame... I have mentioned this to family and friends in our community to shop other stores. Stater Bros and CVS are friendly and stocked and are NOT PRICE GOUGING.. the owners should be ashamed.. read more

Hey, what a great little big market! We just moved to town and were looking to get some carne asada for a little family get together. I'm actually quite impressed at the size and quality of what was available. Prices were competitive too on most items. The prepared food looked great but I only grabbed chicharron. (Pork rinds for my non Latin friends) These were cooked on the spot and came in huge pieces. The size of construction paper!! They were incredibly good. The meat counter is something else. So much selection and five times the size of a regular grocery store. We got Pollo asado and carne asada which came out great on the grill. The avocados were perfect too. The meat counter guy was so polite and made me feel right at home in this busy little place. They have fresh pastries too PLUS their own restaurant across the street. Smart business! read more
