Hard times in the community. I tried to see things in a sense that we should shop small businesses... Yet I came in and purchased eggs for 6.99, a bag of potatoes for 5.99. And was still questioned why I had two boxes of eggs in my cart.. i am disabled and my neighbor was with me. Yet still given a hard time for her purchasing one and me another. We were looking for some fresh seafood and none of the "run of the mill' grocery stores had anything that looked decent, someone told us to check out this little Mexican grocery store on State & Acacia, boy we really hit the jackpot with this place. I'm a big fan of Northgate markets, and unfortunately the closest around here is in Fallbrook, a little too far for me. El Toro Market is like a baby Northgate, they pretty much have the same thing but on a smaller scale, perfect! I was really impressed with their seafood & meat selection, ended up buying 2 lbs of tiger shrimp to make garlic butter shrimp, damn they were tasty! If you go to the other side of the store, they have cooked food cases filled with the best stuff on earth, carne asada, carnitas, lengua, buche and my favorite chicharron! Holy crap, I love me some deep fried pork fat. I didn't get a chance to sample any of the cooked meats, but I will be coming back very soon, I can't wait. read more

I come to this store often when I need a couple of items or meat cuz it's closer to me. The personnel needs so much customer service training. It doesn't take much to be polite they always have a long face don't realize that because of people like me they have a job. I had a bad experience when I bought rotten meat and they had no clue on how to resolve the issue of returning it when I had the receipt and had bought it the same day. It's very unpleasant having to return an item and they assuming as if I was trying to rip them off. So I usually go get a plate of food that includes a canned drink of your choice. The lady at the counter always reminds me that the plate includes a drink. I've been here several times for the hot Mexican food and everything I've had has been really good. The prices can't be beat either. I saw the bad reviews and I can't speak for how it was in the past but I'm telling you that I come here with full confidence. Those reviews are whack- don't listen to them. Update 9/16: They also will fry up fish for you if you buy it from the meat department in the store. It's a lot cheaper than going to a fish restaurant. And I have to say that this has become my go-to taco shop in Hemet. You can't beat the value of their tacos, and the burritos are packed with meat and delicious- it's not like Chipotle, where they skimp on the meat but fill it up with all the other stuff. And the super nachos are huge too. You're blowing it if you don't give them a shot. If there's a better deal in the area where the food isn't crap then by all means tell me where. I always enjoyed their food. Burritos and tacos are really really good. I had a bad experience a few months ago and I haven't been back. The cook was preparing my burrito and right before she rolled it up a fly landed on my food. Unaware that I was watching, she waved her had for the fly to get away and continued to roll my burrito. When she handed it to me I confronted her and she apologized and offered to make another. I refused it and just left. Before that experience, it was always good. Affordable and delicious. I always buy produce here at a good price! There are many in town but this location is the least creepy. The one on san jacinto and main is really sketchy. El Torro has fresh produce and meat, and is much easier to get in and out of than cardenas. There are never huge lines, and the parking lot is not a disaster (like the ones at Cardena's). Have had tacos and burritos here before, but I wasn't happy last night with the service, it wasn't busy, 2 workers behind counter , waited 10 minutes before I was acknowledge, but was only told , be right back with you , when one walked out from behind the counter to go chat and laugh with the cashier , the other worker disappeared around the side , she came out and by then another two customers were waiting, she went to help them FIRST. Then comes to help me , I ordered a burrito for $6.99 comes with a drink.. worker asked if I wanted every thing on it , I sad NO SALSA ..then I go to choose a drink, but only had DIET COKE.. I asked the worker if she could get me a Coke , she then went to fridge and said , oh there's only diet Coke, why don't you take one of them .., at this time the other worker finally finished here conversation, and she too said why not DIET coke , I said NO .. she then went in back and brought out 2 , 18 pks and handed me a hot one.. I then paid , went home, and started to eat my burrito, 4 bites into it , I bit into , SALSA ..
