Stopped by to try out los Amigos on a Saturday night. this location is not new, there have been many mexican resturants here before, none of which were memorable or worth frequenting. This iteration, renamed "Los Amigos" vice "Dos Amigos" (saves on signage, I guess...) seems to stand out on another level thus far. We ordered a chicken burrito, floutas, and the Molé Enchiladas. of the three, the Molé was the standout. this is not surprising, since molé originates in Oaxaca province, home of the owner. The sauce is homemade, and is of a deep, almost black color, with a delicious mixture of spices. The guacamole was also good, spicy but not too much. We will definitely be coming back to explore more items on the menu soon. read more

This is a wonderful local family owned Mexican restaurant with fair prices, great atmosphere and authentic dishes. Best Mexican in Pacific Grove, and I've tried the others. Their veggie fajitas can be a nice vegetarian/vegan option too, and includes lots of veggies such as cauliflower and zucchini. My wife and I went with my cousin for a late lunch. The restaurant was in a small shopping center toward the back. Parking is not a problem and the restaurant was small and very clean. The decor was okay...appropriate for casual dining. I ordered the chile verde burrito and my wife ordered the tortilla soup. The soup was served hot with lots of chicken and was well seasoned. We had to ask for avocados for the soup but it was very flavorful and well seasoned. My burrito was good with beans and rice. The service was good and the staff was very nice. We were eager for a return visit to Peppers, but found it was closed on Tuesday evenings. We checked Yelp and headed to the other end of Forest Avenue and Los Amigos. Almost passed it by as it is at the back of a strip mall. This small restaurant is a typical Mexican restaurant in both decor and menu. Nothing fancy. DH and I both had the Carne Asada Tacos with rice and refried beans. A couple of Dos Equis and some delicious house-made chips rounded out our meal. No room for dessert. We had friendly service from our busy waitress who was handling the entire room by herself. We'll keep Los Amigos on our list of PG restaurants worth returning to for down-to-earth food at reasonable prices. read more

Watch your wallet at this restaurant especially if your ordering online or even on door dash. Both their online menu is way off and even their door dash pricing is less than what I paid when I picked up my dinner. I discussed the pricing with them and they said they wrote to door dash to change but the pricing hasn't changed yet and their online menu is from years ago but they don't know how to/ or can't change it. I feel like we were deceived and ripped off. As for the quality of the food, it's ok. Nothing to write home about but tasted mostly fresh. We aren't going to get sick but I feel I was robbed and cannot recommend this place to others until they are honest in their pricing and learn how to make the changes they need to communicate without deceiving. We are locals here and will not be back as the quality to price is not equivalent. Again, if your loaded and want some ok Mexican food, this is the place (or Peppers or El Torrito or even the vegan El Cantera. The only reason I cannot give a 5 star is that Grubhub took a few minutes longer to deliver based on pickup time and actual tie delivered. Came here because peppers had a wait (although there were like 5 dozen empty tables). Am I glad we did! Julia was our server and she's awesome.l and actually helped me find a parking spot!!! Julia then recommended a few things and I took her advice and went with some steak/shrimp dish that was so good I almost ordered another plate to go. The very best enchiladas on the Monterey Peninsula. We used to drive out of town for a great enchilada, but now just have to go a few blocks. This was one of my favorite restaurants in the whole area. I used to get a particular item that you can't find too often. I understand that things change & prices go up so I completely understand when they raise the price $5 or $6 dollars the first time. This dish for two is not on the menu, it's normally on the specials board. On our last trip in there I didn't see it on the specials board but I asked if they could make this special dish. What really bothered me is they raise the price exorbitantly and didn't mention that, I received the bill and the item was very expensive (if I recall it was almost 15 or $20 more) with no mention of this, they should've told me before hand that they raise the price considerably. When I brought this to their attention I was partially expecting them to do something with the bill considering they did not mention the price change. If they had made an effort I would've continue to be a customer but I feel taken advantage of. That was the last time I have gone in there and I don't know if I will return which is a bummer because I really really liked the place. read more

Great food. Server was sweet, and attentive. I got the Carne asada plate while my partner enjoyed Camarones al mojo de ajo, she said it was the best shrimp she's ever had. The steak was great, good flavors. We both agreed the rice and beans were AMAZING (we have a thing on if places make good arroz y frijoles) We also shared the chicken flautas as an appetizer, which wasn't my favorite. 1 star missing for the complimentary chips which were a little salty and spicy salsa and also just not liking their chicken, but those are my tastebuds. Overall a great & cute place. Will dine in again if we ever visit Monterey again. Total was $55 including tip for 2 meals & an appetizer can't beat that for dine in Mexican. I drove to PG on a Friday a few weeks ago, and after traffic delays and a few stops my check-in was late to my hotel. Although it was after 8:30pm, the small family who runs (owns?) this place greeted me like I was their best customer and quickly offered me a table. I opted take out and it was delicious! I had the chicken enchilada and the pork tamale. The beans and rice were generous portions along with the main items and also came with a small bag of chips with salsa. I would have given it five stars but the salsa was ultra mild, and although I look Caucasian I actually prefer hot peppers and salsa to the mild tomato paste a lot of my look-alikes eat. If I was given both mild and hot salsa I would give 5 stars. Also, the family was talking in English when I stood outside the open door looking at the menu and when I went in they switched to speaking Spanish, which I totally understand and know. The conversation wasn't anything derogatory, but definitely an assumption that I wouldn't understand the language. Please don't judge a person by their skin and eye color. I didn't have time to go back and tell them how grateful I was for their delicious last-minute dinner but I hope they read reviews. I do hope to return to try their hot salsa. read more

First time ordering last night. We got 2 el jefe burritos and 4 asada tacos. At first taste the food was flavorful. But after maybe 4 bites we were immediately nauseous and about to throw up. Only us that ate the burritos got sick. The person that ate the tacos was fine. Not sure if it was the sauce or maybe the rice or beans. I've never had immediate food poisoning like that! I thought maybe it was just me but this morning my mom and brother both asked where we ordered from because they were sick all night. Unfortunately we won't be ordering from here again. read more

The veggie burrito was flavorful with whole beans, bell peppers, onion, corn, guacamole, etc. Salsa was also very good with a nice kick. Service was friendly, didn't wait long. Decided to try this place out on a Saturday afternoon for lunch (as prompted by the reasonably priced groupon). It was a wonderful experience and I would most definitely come back here again. Los Amigos is located at the back of a parking lot, a stand alone building next to various other restaurants. But it's got a cute and welcoming exterior. We easily parked and made our way inside. It wasn't empty, but not crowded at all. The waitress indicated we could sit wherever we wanted, so we chose a table in one of the far corners. The place feels very big and open, but is actually fairly quiet. No yelling over any background music or other people's conversations. Our waitress was very sweet and quickly came over to take our orders and give us chips and salsa. The salsa here is really wonderfully spiced and flavorful, and the chips were warm! Already a plus. And they were still serving breakfast (which is my favorite meal). I ended up ordering the huevos rancheros while my boyfriend ordered the chicken mole (though we ended up splitting them). I loved the huevos rancheros; the eggs were perfectly cooked over easy and the mole had that bitter taste that went wonderfully with the chicken. It was fantastic. Overall I can't see myself not coming back here next time I'm in the area. I loved the food and the service. And the savings from the groupon (include the fact that the groupon applies to the whole menu - breakfast included!). Highly recommend! read more

Slow service, over-priced mediocre food. We were one of two tables that night (only one other customer is a sign I should not have ignored) so it's impossible for me to understand why the waiter was so slow to help us or do much of anything. Once or food order was placed, it took a long time to get it. The menu selection is limited and many of the staple items are over priced. Even a basic burrito is expensive. My chili verde was bland as were the beans and rice and it tasted like it all had just been reheated in a microwave which would explain the inconsistent temperature of the food. I so wanted this to be my go-to place in PG but I need to keep on looking. Update: Went to Michael's around the corner a couple of nights later. It was packed but we got our fresh, hot and delicious food quickly. read more

There have been some big changes since I last came here, and all for the better. The waitresses were lovely and personable, and the food has truly improved. They brew their own ice tea (believe me, this isn't common) and besides a great beer section, they have wine margaritas, which were very fun! It was rather like a virgin margarita, but with a sneaky kick. The sweet, tart, salty combo went perfectly with the food. My man had a shredded beef chimichanga (awesome) and I had a chili relleno and flautas (also awesome). The rice and beans were so good, and the food wasn't greasy or heavy. I love fish tacos and I look for them pretty much everywhere I go. I ordered a shrimp and a grilled fish taco here, and I have to say it was up there in my top few favorites. My husband had the mole' (the smoky, not overly sweet kind), and he was happy with it as well. They have outdoor seating with individual overhead heaters that worked great. Very nice server. Really good value for the money. We will definitely be back on another one of our quick getaway trips to Pacific Grove! read more

Been living in Monterey area for ten months now and we just haven't been able to fined a really good mexican restaurant. We have tried many (El Torito, Jose, El Cantaro, Mission 19 Taqueria and more) restaurants in the surrounding area and experienced cold, bland, dirty glasses and greasy floors or nasty bathrooms. Not today, we found this little hidden mexican restaurant tucked back in a small shopping center (Los Amigos). As we walked in we were greeted with a hello welcome and a smile. We ordered a house margarita that was great & a very cold pacifico. My husband had the combo (enchilada & chili relleno with beans & rice) meal for only $12.95. It was great. He said it was the best he had ever had before. I had the fajita chicken taco salad. Very good & flavorful. The best part of our dining experience was our server Nuriam, she was friendly, fast & knowledgeable of entire menu. We definitely will be back! read more
