We used to go here a number of years ago when it appeared it was family owned. We recently decided to try this place, again. I ordered a water and a black moldy lemon or lime slice floated up from the bottom of my water glass to the top as I stirred my water and took a drink! I fished out the extremely black moldy lemon or lime slice and showed the male "owner". He just said, "oh"....as I asked for another glass of water. We should've gotten up and left right then and there. But, after much discussion, we decided to remain. Since there appears there's only an elderly male and female working this place, we had to wait for the elderly female to get done sweeping outside to come in and cook our breakfast. Then our breakfast was served in shifts because she was doing the cooking and serving while the male was working elsewhere. We needed "to go" boxes and had to wait 5-10 minutes to get them...even tho we were only 2 of the 4 people in the whole place. Best tacos I've had in a long time. I ordered the taco plate, carne asada on flour tortillas with cilantro. Highly recommend adding a healthy poured of green sauce over the top. It gives just the right amount of kick while still enjoying the flavor of the actual food. If you love tacos, these are the kind you'll never get tired of eating. My friends are local and they also enjoy other items on the menu, but I don't think I'd be able to not get the tacos. Chips and Salsa are also very good. The restaurant feels clean inside and the service was quick and friendly. I ate a lot of food but I don't feel terrible like you can after some places. We went to Los Amigos in Lake Dallas for the first time today. The restaurant was referred to us by a friend of the family. The restaurant seemed to be clean and not that busy for a Sunday lunch crowd which was good because the parking is very limited. I purchased the Enchilada plate that came with three enchiladas,,rice, refied beans and I purchased a street taco. This cost me under $10s. It was pretty good plate seemed like the portions were small but still good though. My wife had the naked burrito which was good and cost around $6. My daughter had the chicken salad which was excellent and cost around $8. I was really surprised that they had a small selection of Mexican food on the menu. They do have several breakfast items that looked good. They also have other items if you are not up for Mexican food. Some of the items are Hamburgers,chicken fried steak, etc. One set back that I have never seen at any Mexican restaurant until our visit at Los Amigos is that the first set of salsa and chips are free according to what the menu states. After the first set of chips and salsa there would be a charge for additional chips and salsa. The salsa is very good. They do have free drink refills unless you ordered an Orange juice. The service was good and the waitress was very good on checking if we needed anything which was nice. We will plan another trip and try a few other items in the future. The reason for three stars was due to size portions, extra fee for additional chips and salsa,and the need for more Mexican food items to choose from. This is my first time here. Los Amigos Mexican restaurant is one of the hidden secret of Lake Dallas, Lake Cities area. I ordered Mexican pork chops with corn tortilla, rice and beans. My wife ordered Beef Tacos in hard corn tortillas. The pork chops are well marinated, not dry. The rice and beans with sweet peppers and tomatoes matched well with the excellent taste of their pork chops. Maybe the owners could use a boneless pork loin, instead and price it a dollar more, $10.99. The Beef Tacos on hard corn tortillas are spicy, but taste great. The ground beef is a little dry, should be moist. Serving Staff is courteous and helpful. Well decorated and clean Mexican restaurant. Not pricey, serving is moderately on an average side. Separate Men and Women's bathroom. No changing table, need upgrade. I recommend that you try this restaurant next time you pass by the Lake Dallas area. read more

Authentic!!!! Great Prices, diverse menu of flavor and local dishes...highly recommend

First, this restaurant looks like a hole-in-the-wall but the food is quite delicious. It's less than a mile from the freeway, so it's also a good road trip restaurant. The food is eclectic but Mexican and hamburgers and chicken. I personally think that's great, because if someone isn't crazy about Mexican or isn't in the mood, there are choices. I must say you get one bowl of free salsa and chips, but the prices are so reasonable who cares? The bowl of salsa is plenty big, and it is warm and packs done heat. My friend ordered the cheese enchiladas which gone with queso Fresca inside. In case you don't know, this is a hard cheese that doesn't melt, so it's like having a piece of cheese inside a tortilla. She wasn't a fan. But we shared my shrimp quesadilla which was awesome. Melted cheese, decent sized shrimp and great flavor. This was a total win. read more

Went there for the first time today despite living over here for 20 years. Small place there was no wait at all, food came out hot and fast. Salsa was good chips were good. I order queso, heads up it's more like nacho cheese from a can. Good on the enchiladas not so much on its own. Priced decently, I ordered cheese enchiladas but it had queso fresco inside didn't melt very well however I dipped in in the salsa and it was great. My fiancé also got the Philly steak sandwich and he said it was amazing. We will be going back great staff very friendly. read more

Step of faith because I don't typically want Mexican food. Although my mom and I just left church and were hungry for something new. So I looked it up on yelp and despite the 4 star rating with only 8 reviews , proceeded to go there. It really is a mom and pop business but the customer service was too the T and prices are great . They treated us w/ appetizers almost immediately. I will say the building is old , I wasn't vibin of it , but it was clean and decent. As for the food I give it a solid 7/10 ! Only because my mom had the better dish. She had the Chicken Tortas ! Oh M goodness I swear that bread was so heavenly toasted with butter and meshed w/ the rest of the sandwich I wanted to order one myself! Just what we were looking for. Amazing Mexican food. Reasonable prices. Nice quiet patio. Off main in Lake Dallas. I had the hard tacos and my girlfriend had the 3 enchilada platter. (Cheese, chicken, beef). I tried everything. It was great. Chips and salsa were fresh hot and homemade. Verde sauce had a nice kick. Delish. 7 minutes up 35 from Highland Village. Definitely recommend. They don't serve beer, and I don't know the rules on BYOB. We'll def be back and prob bring a small cooler. I doubt it'll be a problem. read more

Based on what I could see from the street, I didn't have high hopes for this place....well...that's what I get for judging. What a great place. What great food. They make their tamales there. The tamales are only available on the weekends. The guacamole is some of the best I have ever had anywhere. And, did I say that the prices are very, very modest? The street tacos are good. The facility is clean and there is plenty of parking. My sister and I recently went in her RV and there was a place for that RV off to the side of the parking area. Can't remember how many times we have gone to Los amigos. Before Covid the price was cheaper and the portion were just right! We don't mind that the prices went up because everything has gone up but their portion cut in half almost. Bite size tacos. Stingy with the chips and salsa. They should charge for the chips and salsa and free refills. Not charge you on your 2nd chips and salsa witch is smaller than the first one. I gave 2 stars because the the food is tasty but we get about 6 tacos each and still hungry. We used to go ones a week, ones in two weeks. Not sure if we will go often. Will change the review and will go more often when they change the portions size. read more

I usually like this place. But there's always this one lady there where her attitude and customer service lacks integrity. When I walked in she was on the phone and didn't welcome me in, so I stood there until the young lady cleaning offered me a menu and seat. The young lady that was cleaning didn't speak English well, told her 'no problem I'll wait'. She was super sweet and went away to get a man who was very cool and is always cool when I come. He took my order: vegetarian sopes with rice and beans on the sopes including lettuce, Pico and light cheese....no sour cream. The older lady gets off the phone finally and goes in back to cook. Plate comes out with rice and beans on the side, sope has beans only, loads of cheese and sour cream. Okay no biggie, So I asked the young lady for lettuce, she brought the lady with the horrible attitude over since she didn't understand much English, again not a problem. So I try to explain to the older lady what I ordered & she immediately gets loud and screams for the gentleman to come out and starts pointing and saying in Spanish (they think I can't understand Español) "she has an attitude even though I gave what she wanted". The gentleman apologized and took the blame for the mix up and offered to remake it. She says in Spanish "she's not going to" rolls her eyes at me and goes to sit back down at the table. At this point before I lose my cool I tell the guy don't worry about it and offered to pay for the chips/salsa and drink, and he again said, "Don't worry about it." So I go to leave and Ms attitude says something not so nice in Español and I ask her if she has a problem. The gentleman continued to apologize and I just left. I definitely won't be back to this place unfortunately, used to be a cool spot until this lady started showing her true colors. read more

While visiting my brother in Dallas area, I wanted to try some different, off the beaten path, affordable and not another BBQ joint. This restaurant intrigued me on Yelp. They easily accommodated our party of 10 and we had great service. The menu was pretty extensive and very affordable. They were a truly Mexican restaurant so I wanted to try authentic food. The chips and salsa were different but very good. The salsa is served warm and somewhat resembles tomato soup with some spice. I decided on the street tacos and tried the barbacoa, pastor, and beef. They were all very tasty and they came with beans and Spanish rice. The rice was delicious, the beans tasted kinda lardy. My children got the kids pancakes which were phenomenal and a great deal. My husband had a BLT because he always likes to play it safe. My sister in law ordered Menudo but thought she was ordering posole. We didn't eat menudo but it looked like it should. Found this little Mama y Padre restaurant while fishing in the area. Saw the 5 star rating and had to try it. Like someone else said, the enchiladas were perfect, as were the chips and tomato salsa. The tamale plate and taco plate was decent, but the enchiladas and street tacos were the winners of all we sampled. Love the fact that they offer three salsas when they bring your food to the table because the avocado salsa was a delight! Not a highly staffed place, but the service was adequate for how many that were there working. Very courteous staff. We would definitely recommend if you find yourself in Lake Dallas. read more
