We had a really great experience overall! The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and casual--perfect for a laid-back meal. Everything we ordered was delicious. The guacamole tasted super fresh, the queso was flavorful and came in a generous portion, and the salsa had just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. The only small hiccup was the chips situation--they give you big portions of guac, queso, and salsa, but the chips come in a tiny bowl. (Literally 10 chips) very sad for 6 people to fight over so little of chips. Not a huge deal, just a bit surprising. We also tried the margaritas--they had great flavor, though they tasted absent of tequila. If I could give La Fondita Mexican Restaurant six stars, I would legally change the rating system just to make it happen. Let me set the scene: I walked in expecting a casual meal and maybe a decent taco. What I got instead was a borderline spiritual awakening wrapped in foil and served with rice and beans. First of all -- the giant piña colada. When they say giant, they are not messing around. This thing arrived like it had its own gravitational pull. I'm pretty sure I saw a small family of tourists orbiting it. One sip and I was transported to a beach that doesn't even exist on any map -- coconutty, icy perfection with just enough kick to make me briefly consider texting my boss that I've moved to an island and won't be returning. Then came the beans. Listen carefully: I don't throw this word around lightly -- perfect. These beans were so good I genuinely paused mid-bite and just stared into the middle distance reevaluating my entire life. Creamy, rich, seasoned like someone's abuela whispered ancient secrets into the pot. I would trust these beans with my taxes, my passwords, and honestly my emotional well-being. And the corn tortillas... dear lord, the corn tortillas. I have had tortillas in many places, including at my own abuela's table -- and saying this feels like confessing a sin -- but these might be the best I've ever had besides abuela's. Warm, soft, slightly charred in all the right places, like they were handmade by someone who has been perfecting this craft since before I was born and possibly before electricity was invented. If I could build a house out of these tortillas, I would. I would live there. Happily. And then--just when I thought things couldn't escalate further--the huevos rancheros arrived. Eggs cooked to that perfect sweet spot where the yolk still has a little rebellion left in it, laid over a bed of everything that matters, all tied together with a sauce that refuses to be anything less than unforgettable. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you question why you ever settle for anything less in life. Comforting, bold, and somehow both rustic and wildly impressive at the same time. Everything else on the plate? Outstanding. Rice that actually deserves to be eaten and not just politely ignored. Salsa that sneaks up on you like, "oh this is nice--OH okay there it is." Service? Friendly, fast, and somehow emotionally supportive. Atmosphere? The kind of place where you immediately feel like a regular even if it's your first time. Final verdict: If you are anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Denton and you are not eating at La Fondita Mexican Restaurant, you are making a series of deeply questionable life choices. This place is a hidden gem. The ambiance is a vibe. They have lots of TV'S. Hubby wanted to go here for Father's Day and when we went the Fifa game was on. It was loud and fun and packed. Our server Luis was super nice and very attentive. You can see that all the employees help each other out which is a good thing. Hubby and I ordered Mexican candy shots and they were so good. Hubby got the Texas quesadilla with chicken and he could not stop talking about how good it is. I ordered the Flautas with rice and refried beans. On a recent trip to Denton to take our son to UNT we wanted to find a local place that was hopefully better than the last time we ate and didn't a year ago which was a place with goody up reviews so we were a little bit leary. The reviews were good on this restaurant and it said homemade authentic so we thought we'd give it a shot. It's about 15 minutes from the square in Denton where we were at recycled books which is another recommend if you're in town I'll write a review for that also it's in a small strip parking area. Parking was not a problem and it wasn't too busy so we received it right away inside the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. It has some TVs on the wall of sports including a giant TV. There is a bar area. The menus displayed a lot of good looking food. My wife and I tried the fajitas and my son got some tacos. We also ordered some queso. The queso was average at best and they give you a little bowl of chips so we blew through the chips. I finally asked for two bowls, but by that time our meal was already there so we didn't really eat any too many after that the chips were OK. The red salsa that comes in a bowl was average at best. They had some red and green salsa in bottles that you could squirt onto your chips or food and that was better. It had some spice to both of them. The red was spicier than the green. There was plenty of food on all three of our plates and none of us finished all of our food. My wife ordered a Mexican Coke and my son got a mango drink overall I would say this was a 3 to 3 1/2 stars out of five would I go there again and try something different yeah, probably so I wouldn't get the queso cause it certainly wasn't anything exciting and I would ask for two bowls of chips to begin with instead of just the one that our table because the balls are small, but our waitress was super nice and service was pretty good so overall I would say if you're in town, give them a try. read more

We came here for lunch after a friend who loves authentic Mexican food recommended it. Angeles sat us down right away. We ordered the Aztec Taco Plate because it had Nopales (cactus). They were delicious. Angeles made sure our waters were filled. The atmosphere is really neat with a bench to take pictures for Instagram. They even have a bar that you can order drinks from. This is my ISH!! I love La Fondita it's literally my favorite whole in the wall Mexican food in the DFW. The food is always on point and they update the menu and specials almost weekly. I usually stop in and grab a margarita while I wait on my food. The vibes inside are low key but very vibrant and fun. They have Karaoke every Friday and most of the staff will sing songs and they do amazing. If you're looking for a place that has it all good food, great vibes, great service, and great prices then sprint here asap. You won't be disappointed. read more

I know this restaurant has many great 5 star reviews so I'll get to to the point. I found this restaurant last week and decided to try them out. The inside is nice, there's a few TVs and one huge one in a karaoke/DJ area. There's a bar inside as well and plenty of seating. Inside the ambience is pretty cool and there are lots of art. This is a good spot for larger parties and to catch a sports event as well. I ordered the kids cheeseburger, 2 beef and chicken enchiladas, the birria tacos and two drinks, a Mama Mangonada Rita and a frozen mango margarita. Kids cheeseburger: My son enjoyed his burger. It was a decent size and came with fries. And was very tasty. Birria Tacos: my wife ate these and she said they were very good she also liked the dip. I tried some and they were flavorful. Enchiladas: my daughter and I didn't like these. I didn't like the texture of the tortilla they were ok thick and a bit in the grainier side. The flavors was average. The beef was just meh and the chicken was below average. The chicken was flavorless. The accompanying sauces and queso was just okay to me. I also felt the rice and redried beans was small for the price. I had came here because I had a craving for enchiladas but I was disappointed. I won't be back because of this. It seems like some of the food is good and some can be hit or miss from my experience and reading some other reviews. Drinks Mama Mangonada Rita - my wife enjoyed this margarita as it's her favorite and it was made well. We moved here from San Diego soooo we DEFINITELY have been on the search for GREAT Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex ... stuff. My kids had the Birria taco and they loved them while I had the golden shrimp tacos. Yummmm ! Me and my oldest traded a taco and she wished she got mine. Never had La Fondita before today, but I have family that loves this place so we all decided to go and have a to go order. We did the Golden Box since you can get 10 or 20 tacos in one box. Also comes with cilantro, onions, limes, and the beef broth. We also had them add the green salsa. And let me say, this Golden box did not disappoint! The tacos were amazing as well as the broth and salsa. They definitely hit the spot! We also got some cookies to go that had strawberry jelly in the middle of them. I order from here like once or twice a week I LOVE La Fondita. Authentic Mexican food is my favorite kind of food and I'm very picky about it. Anyway, the people there are so friendly and the food is always great. I've never had a complaint or issue with their service or food. AND, I've ordered from them at least 30-40 times since we've moved to Denton and they've never gotten an order wrong. Also, did you know it's like a party inside? I always order on Door Dash or Uber, but one time I picked up and it was live music (maybe karaoke) and the vibe was so fun. And she pretty much said someone stole my food, and in the middle of me talking, she then hung up! I will NEVER order from here again. Nor will I ever step foot in this restaurant AGAIN. We ordered the queso for an appetizer and it came with chips and salsa. We ordered the Barria taco combo but found out it didn't come with consommé. The waitress suggested a different menu item that was 3 tacos w/cabbage, cilantro, onion, lime and consommé. For an entree, it was not filling as it was only three small tacos. The meat was tender but didn't have much flavor without the consommé, the consommé had a hint of cinnamon but you couldn't taste any of the signature peppers that are typically front and center in Barria tacos. We are from Southern California, with arguably the best Mexican food. La Fondita is the closest thing to home, we have found. It's authentic, hot and delicious EVERY time. Minus one star because the "Al pastor" is NOT authentic and it's not good. Also because they don't keep their onions and cilantro separate for those who don't enjoy cilantro. We eat here constantly and will continue to do so as long as they don't change anything! Every single item we have tried is delicious. I especially love their carnitas.
