This festival has been receiving quite a bit of buzz around town. I normally see these type of shows in a botanical garden setting and new it would be in a parking lot so my expectations were tempered. There are also lots of opportunities to get discounted tickets, which is very nice. There are no admission times. It is open admission so there are long lines to get in, however it does keep moving out of decent pace. The festival itself had well over a hundred vendors selling food and other items and probably under 20 lantern displays. Some of the displays were very pretty and some were quite simple inflatables and mechanical animals, probably geared toward younger audiences. The setup was a bit sloppy with many boots empty and set up materials strewn around. There were lots of wires on the ground which I found to be tripping hazards, especially in the dark. Overall I would say it was a decent experience but nothing I would rush back to.

The tickets were pricey for what I experienced in my opinion especially adding on a parking fee and needing to pay inside for food. Huge money grab! It reminded me of the 626 night market but with lanterns displayed throughout. The lanterns were beautiful! They open on Friday and weekends except they were open on Halloween as well which was a Thursday. The vendors said it gets really busy on weekends but I went on a Friday and it wasn't very crowded. Some booths weren't even open! Parking is also a crap shoot in terms of directions on how to get in to the lot. There are a few people who can direct you but there really isn't a safe walkway to cross the main road to get to the festival. Someone is stopping cars to let pedestrians jaywalk... It gets dark later on and there isn't lighting with the parking either... Just fyi they do give you a raffle ticket, free hot sauce at a booth in the front, and free trinkets based on your birth zodiac.

This was fun; we came tonight and enjoyed some delicious night market food and saw lots of cool lanterns made in China. Woohoo! Got discounted tickets from Fantuan app. Only paid $42 for 3 people since toddler was free. Someone from Fantuan actually escorted us to the front of the line because apparently we are VIPs for buying a pass thru their app. The line to get in was very long maybe 20-30 min wait but we skipped all that tonight on their 2nd night of opening to the public on 10-19-2024. I hope they bring this back every year because it's good to introduce this type of festival to the Southern California community.

Very expensive event. We were lucky that they didn't charge us for parking. The best lantern was the entrance structure. The kids and I were really blown away approaching it. But once we were in, the other lanterns were just ok. It was fun to read the descriptions for the zodiac animals but there wasn't much more to the event. Vendors really took advantage of customers by jacking up prices as well. Tang hu Lu dessert was served warm wth! Yuck. Layout was weird and random. Maybe if they put all the lanterns in one area it would be easier to take photos. More game vendors to feel like an Asian night market would be great next time. The next day I had to make a return/exchange with one of the vendors and the registration people were nice enough to let me pass after showing them my ticket from the previous day! Some free paper fans and zodiac animal plushie charms were available which was nice but didn't make up for how much we paid for entrance and food.

Saw this event circulating around on social media and I figured, why not check it out? So I came here on a Saturday night with my girlfriend, and here's my following thoughts: 1. Paid the discounted ticket price off Fantuan ($18) and I still don't think it's worth that much for admission. Feels like more of a $8-10 event for me. Can't imagine paying the full $28 price for it. 2. The light installations were actually well done and pretty to look at. 3. They have claw machines and other carnival like games if you are interested in that type of thing. 4. There was an average amount of food vendors, nothing really caught my eye other than the tanghulu vendors. I didn't get any though due to prices. 5. Felt like a definitely semi mini Chinese version of 626 night market with light installations and even animatronics. At least it didn't feel too crowded too. Overall, my advice would be to get the Fantuan ticket price if you want to check out the festival. Otherwise, value wise, I think the festival is overpriced for what it is and pretty much just took about less than an hour to see all the light installations and general festival. Also they did not check for if you paid for parking, so I wouldn't even bother paying for parking from their website.

Overpriced and definitely not worth it even with a discount code. It was such a disappointment. The exhibits were so spread far apart and felt very randomly placed. We also paid for parking online and no one even bothered to check for parking pass. Another waste of my money. If you like to just pop in for some photo ops to post on social media then that's great. Truly that's all that this place is probably is for. There was a decent amount of food vendors. Some merch for sale and a stage with some line ups, that didn't seem too impressive. I would only come back if it's free. Don't waste your money.

The Los Angeles Lantern Art Expo in Arcadia was a vibrant showcase of cultural artistry and festive spirit. With stunning displays inspired by the Tang Dynasty and the Chinese zodiac, I had a blast searching for my horoscope sign, The Rooster. The event also featured holiday-themed displays, including Halloween and Christmas scenes, along with an impressive Jurassic Park installation. The atmosphere was reminiscent of the 626 Night Market, complete with a variety of food trucks and those iconic claw machines. Arriving early allowed us to enjoy the intricate lanterns in both daylight and illuminated glory. I was thrilled to find Eastern Tales, where I finally got to try their delicious Thai tea offerings, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Would definitely recommend the Lychee lime Thai iced tea!!! I even sampled a mochi crumble dessert that left me wanting more and didn't get a chance to find out the vendor. Special thanks to Khloe for all her help--it made our experience even better. Get your tickets on the website Santa Anita Park www.awcae.com IG: la_lanternartexpo 285 W. Honestly, this was a disappointment. It's like they took a 626 Night Market and threw in some lanterns to call it an "art expo." The lantern displays were nice for about five minutes. Definitely not worth the hype or the ticket price. The lanterns seem like more of lit up structures, more like the Imaginarium last year at the Fairplex.

We came on a Sunday night, the parking was free, so thank goodness we didn't pay for parking ahead of time. There were plenty of parking spaces, but ironically, there were barely any lights on the parking lots. As you walk up to the entrance, they had 2 security with a wand, no bag checks, and then there's a line for those who would like to purchase entry ticket and then another line to show pre-purchased tickets. They had the art installments of the lights in the front, and then when you enter, it's more like a food festival, think 626 night market, but way less people. There were a lot of food vendors, but some were closed that night. There were also some merchant vendors as well. The light installments were scattered around the perimeter of the ground and the zodiac signs were in the middle with the dragon girl. The lights were pretty immersive. There's also a section toward the back, behind the stage where they dedicated an area for the kids! There were dinosaur rides that our kids loved! There were also some Halloween and Holiday lights too. The food vendors were littered throughout the grounds, food, drinks, candies, sweets, water bottles, fruits, etc. We tried the Mongolian beef skewers, they were long, some meat were really tender but then there are also some pieces that were tendon-y. The seasonings were really delicious though! Then we made our way to some popcorn chicken at the twins crispy chicken. And finally after we made another round and let the kids play, we ended the night with some tanghulu, the strawberry and hawthorne berries coated in sugars. It was so delicious. Of course being a festival, they upcharge for everything. I don't know why admission charge is so high if you go in and you'd have to buy everything inside. I think the light installation is worth it but I wished it was placed closer together and not so spread out. There were also some tents that were empty or blown away and it made it look like some corners were just deserted. The restrooms situation could also be better, there were plenty of porta potty but its porta potty! Overall, a unique place for the family to look at some lights, get some food, and enjoy each other's company. We had a good time but I'm not sure if we'll be back year after year for it (unless the light installation change?).

First time ever coming here! I had fun tonight Nov. 1st Friday I have bought the tickets online, I did wondered if we can buy them in person but I didn't hesitate to find out. And bought the parking for the day online also. That being said the entry moments went smoothly. We did show up at 4 pm, there was plenty of parking. Seemed like we were one of the few early bird families there. So we walked around to see who will be our potential try out businesses once everyone were here and running their business. We let three hours pass And noticed so many empty dark tents. We are starting to get hungry and am surprised many didn't show up or some who were there, closed up and left. I was like did we come in a very bad day? We were even charged to come inside and I was expecting to meet all the vendors that were in the map. I would have enjoyed it more if everyone were there running their business Wanted to try out their goodies Help out small businesses. So we helped the ones who were present We enjoyed the view of the lanterns And some tea. Mommas out there with their Months old babies, there are no changing table or rooms Just an FYI, we used our stroller and covered with blankets to give our baby a little privacy, we managed Also there were not a lot of people in there We walked around like four times with ease No bumping to bumping others so that's great. I'm just disappointed how empty it felt from businesses, we paid $50 to come in to just view the lanterns. I wished there were more to do.

I really do miss live shows and getting a chance to get that feeling of happiness when you go to…read moreshows with friends, listen to great live music, and make memories. With the pandemic still very much so at large, we are very limited to these types of experiences, but Insomniac was able to pull this off, while still keeping everyone safe. The only downfall (and quite big IMO), was the wait time to enter the first weekend. We waited over an hour to enter GA, and eventually was asked if we wanted to upgrade to VIP for $50. I wish we were asked this in the beginning, but I wonder if they've been able to fix this problem since then. Also, if anyone has attended this and knows the link to the official playlist on Spotify, please send it my way! I'd love to bookmark this entire playlist to listen in my car.

Tickets are $69.99 during the week, $89.99 Fridays and Saturdays, $79.99 on Sundays. An additional…read more$59.95 to upgrade to VIP (up to 8 people per car) and another $20.00 for the service fee. Yeah, it adds up and it doesn't seem worth it, but if there's 8 of you in the car and split the tab, it isn't too bad. We came through on a Friday night. We opted for the VIP package and bypassed pretty much everyone (that line looked like a thousand miles long, so that alone threw all regrets, doubts and second thoughts out the window!) Bypassing the long line was one thing, but then my passengers' bladders decided to go in sync and in unison all needed a bathroom break BEFORE the drive. The VIP package came in handy once again - they have a separate set of porta-potties for VIP peeps, too! Needless to say, there were no lines there either. So, yeah, off to a good start. I didn't really know what to expect, so I decided not to expect too much. There were a lot of mixed reviews on Yelp (complaints were mostly about the cost) so I kept an open mind. THE VERDICT: Totally WORTH IT. This whole production was well put-together. It was beautifully created with a lot of imagination. The engineering and construction alone were astonishing, how long did it take them to put it all up! And I really liked that they coordinated all the lights' movements with the music coming off the assigned radio station (107.9.) And those souls braving the cold as they entertained us with their dance moves... KUDOS! (I didn't get to see what's in the VIP box but going by how each of my passengers went through it like the Tasmanian Devil, I'm gonna assume whatever was in there was fun!) If this is your thing, here are a few tips: 1) Entry is at Holly and Huntington NOT at the main entrance. If you do end up at the main entrance, they'll reroute you. No worries. 2) You can come through as early as 30 minutes before your scheduled time, but try to be there within that window just for the sake of being considerate. The whole thing is about 45 minutes to an hour, all depending on how slow or fast you go. 3) CLEAN YOUR WINDSHIELDS! I meant to, but I completely forgot. But even with the semi-dirty glass, it was still pretty good. 4) Sunroofs are great! I didn't have one (wouldn't have mattered if I did since I was the one behind the wheel) but I was sorta jealous of the peeps who made full use of it. I imagine that's the best way to experience it. 5) You are allowed to open your windows. Just watch out for fog machines... 6) Take your time and let it all sink in. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it, something cool to do social distancing style. It's an event for all ages and a great excuse to get out of the house more especially during these challenging times.

What else can I add to what Grace C. has already extolled about this event? :)…read more It was my first time to A Taste of Old Town Monrovia, after hearing my boyfriend rave about all the deliciousness of years past. Thus, expectations duly raised, I went into the event with high hopes and an empty stomach. I was not disappointed. There were fifty booths this year, representing many a palate. From hotel cuisine to soul food, there was a stand to satisfy one's appetite. Did I go back to Paradis Gelato's stands twice? Maaaaaybe. ;) Thanks to this event, I had the opportunity to sample foods from many different eateries. Jake's Roadhouse, Sena on Myrtle, and Bottega della Sera were particular faves for me. There are many other places that I look forward to visiting. The live music was wonderful, everyone was friendly, and the overall atmosphere was just lovely. I really like the palette-like trays they gave us (there's a slot for holding your wine glass, too!). The Kiwanis Club did an excellent job organizing this wonderful event! Finally, this year, everything fell into place and at 5 pm on Sunday, with my pre-bought ticket in hand (you save $10 not buying at the door!), I was ready to taste and drink my way through the main street on Monrovia on Myrtle Ave with the over 50+ vendors from Monrovia and the surrounding areas. The entire street of Myrtle is blocked off from Lime to Colorado. Upon check-in (and checking your ID to make sure you're over 21), you're handed a reusable tote bag with a wine glass and reusable food tray (with handy slot to house your wine glass). The tote bag is great in holding coupons and menus and business cards handed out by the various vendors. Some vendors have storefronts right here on Myrtle while others are in nearby cities (like Duarte, Azusa or Pasadena) or can provide catering and private orders! You definitely will not go home hungry! A tip learned from this trip is that it may be worthwhile to do a walk through first to see what's out there and pick what piques your interest. Otherwise you'll be full before you hit the halfway point! Plenty of food and availability to go back for seconds on your favorites! The lines were very reasonable, with the max being maybe 4 people ahead of you in line. The BF and I tried plenty of sweets (cupcakes, bundt cakes, ice cream!), BBQ foods, Mexican food, comfort food, and so much more! Plenty of alcohol flowing here too! I love that everything is included in the ticket price so you don't even have to bring your wallet if you don't plan to bar hop afterwards! Other than the food, there's a live band (Time Bomb) providing some great tunes through out the night, in front of an area set up for dancing to work off the food. A photo booth was nearby as well to capture your picture pre or post food coma. I have to give major props to the Kiwanis Club of Monrovia for such a well run event. Tickets could be purchased online (with a small convenience fee) or at a couple of different Monrovia merchants in person (cash or check only). The day of the event, checking in ran super smooth and the Kiwanians were all over the event -- making sure trash cans weren't overflowing, providing bottled water at their booths, and making sure everyone was having a great time! If I wasn't already a member of another Kiwanis club, this event would motivate me to join their club! And of course, the proceeds of the tickets all go towards benefiting the youth programs they organize in the community. What a win-win situation -- the kids supported by Kiwanis wins and my tummy wins in trying out so much variety of food! Of course, I have to comment that I had no problems finding parking as well. There are plenty of street parking and spots at the various free public parking lots next to Myrtle Avenue. Just turn on one of the side streets one or two blocks before you hit Line or Colorado to avoid the buildup of traffic from the blocked off streets. As I was heading out, stuffed to the brim at 7:30 pm, I saw a sign saving the date for the event next year - October 15, 2017. You can bet it will be on my calendar and it should be on yours too, especially for any first timers!

A lot of the trucks were giving out samples too - all were excellent! The fair takes place on a Saturday in early December from 10am-4pm. Parking is street parking or in the local garages that are within reasonable walking distance. Attendance is free so it's definitely worth a visit! I've also participated in this fair as a vendor and the city of Arcadia does a great job for the customers AND vendors! It's very organized and well laid out. We're definitely planning on participating next year and doing our Christmas shopping here again.

I decided to go Friday evening after work which ended up having slightly less scheduled events. However, the benefit was that there were lesser crowds, and the cool, end of summer breeze around the perimeter of the church was just the right temperature. The big draw for me was definitely the food. Specifically, I had a craving for moussaka. As luck would have it, by the time it was my turn in line the moussaka was almost out, so I was lucky to have one of the last pieces. Although the dish was only slightly warm, the taste was undeniably fresh and satisfying. My colleague and I talked about dishes to check out, and he raved about how delicious the roasted leg of lamb dish was. He also mentioned that the dance competition can be pretty entertaining. The group that was up that evening ranged from adolescents to the elderly, and it was clear early on the spirited elderly folks had both the charm and technique down to win it all. "Opa!!!" the audience would cheer them on. The surrounding area included vendors for jewelry, artwork, and even an AARP booth for ax-throwing. Decently sized festival and friendly folks around.

What a wonderful surprise! I stumbled upon this local Greek festival when driving up Rosemead and…read moresaw the buzz of excitement around St. Anthony Orthodox Church. Blue and white tents canvas the parking lot and house the vendors and bar. The festival offered a generous seating area where groups of all sizes could savor their meals and desserts to the tune of live music. The large dance floor means people of all ages joined in the group dances, creating a joyful atmosphere that was contagious! There is souvlaki that draws you in and the indoor hall where they serve plated meals. My favorite part of this enchanting event had to be the lovely grandmas who brought their energy and warmth to serve up their baked desserts, with a side of heartfelt smiles. We love the experience, and what this festival represents!

Disappointed is to say the least of what our group was. There was no point in going there. Staff said the 101° heat the week before caused the flowers to fall. Heavy rain might make the flowers fall too. Also, this festival is in a person's backyard. Admission is not free. We paid $5 a person. I don't trust LA's flower gardens. The only pro of this experience was learning the home's wistaria history.

Until this weekend I had never heard of the Wisteria Festival before. The rescue that I foster with…read more(PupCulture Rescue) was having a tent at the festival and so I drove up to Sierra Madre for the event. I learned that the Wisteria Festival happens once a year and it is centered around the largest Wisteria plant in the world, and if I'm correct this Wisteria is also in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the largest blooming plant in the world, unfortunately they can't predict so far ahead of time when the plant will bloom, so each year they apparently try to schedule the festival when they think it will bloom, but this year due to the weather being so hot the plant prematurely bloomed last month. The festival is massive, with a couple of blocks or more that are blocked off and so many tents to stop by and visit. PupCulture Rescue had one tent towards the middle which was great with allot of foot traffic. I sat with the rescue and my foster Drew (check my photos, he's a very sweet Bone Face Shar Pei and still looking for his forever home) for a few hours and then I left him there with the group so that I could explore with my friends for a bit. There were so many tents with beautiful pottery, or food/coffee/drinks, and other goodies to look at. My friends and I found the bus that would take us to the famous Wisteria Plant, it's $15 / person to ride the bus up the hill to the house. Once at the house a guide gives a brief history of the plant, and it's amazing that back when it was first planted it was only 75 cents. Now it's really this massive giant. Too bad the blooms were already gone, but despite this you will still be in awe of its massive size. I can only imagine how gorgeous it must be when it's in bloom. I think one thing they should do at the bottom of the hill before you buy tickets is let you know if it's not in bloom so you can decide at that time if you still want to go. I saw many people express severe disappointment when they realized there were no blooms, however I had heard randomly from someone before going that the blooms were gone so I came with that knowledge already and wasn't disappointed since I already knew. You can either take the bus back down the hill or for a short walk downhill you can stop by the two churches that are on the way back to the festival. Both churches are rich in architecture and beautiful landscape. Until next year!

It was a…read morebucket list trip for my mom, and while my boys had a great time, the travel was complicated and arduous, mostly because of my wild three-year-old Wade B. A couple weeks later, my husband and I took the boys to the Enchanted Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens. They had an absolute blast, and my five-year-old Leo B. declared, with utmost sincerity, "I think this is the nicest place I've ever been." Matt B. and I had been once before, almost a decade ago, with our friends Caroline Y. and Scott S., when we were all young and childless. We came back together, this time with five kids, and as much as I enjoyed it back in the day, I found it even more compelling this second time around. The magic was amplified ten times by the presence of my sons, who absolutely loved all the beautiful, colorful lights. I did buy them shitty Christmas light necklaces, one of which broke almost immediately, causing considerable strife. The alternative, of course, was to deny Wade his request before even entering the garden, where he would badger me every time he saw another child with the necklace. I was not surprised to see that most of the children seemed to have them, every parent having made the same calculation on their way in. Smart and evil of Descanso Gardens to put that vendor right by the entrance. I'm guessing Enchanted is their big revenue generator for the year, and this is a McKinseyish way to maximize. The kids oohed and aahed at every exhibit, marveling at all the colors and lights. We oohed and aahed right with them, and had the additional pleasure of watching them play and interact with the elaborate, immersive displays. They loved the tulip fields, the model trains, the stained glass houses, the trees and music and light. There was also a large platform that served as a dance floor for small children, who partied to the ambient music. Wade was especially taken with this stage, and the one part of the night that did not go well was when I yanked him away so we could see the rest of the installations. It was cold and the kids were up way past their bedtimes, but we all had a blast at the Enchanted Forest. When pressed, Leo admitted that Paris was in fact as nice as Descanso Gardens, but the point was made. Come Christmas, we can take the boys to France or we can just drive to La Cañada and buy a few tickets that support a wonderful botanical garden. We might even manage the latter every year.

Wow! What an unexpectedly cool experience!…read more Pro tips: 1. Bring whatever you like to keep you very warm in weather that seems cool normally but in the woods is icy cold. It was 51 and according to the weather app felt like 47 but I'm here to tell you it was COLD COLD more like 32 imho and head, hands, neck and feet coverage is a must so you can enjoy it. Suggest a warm beanie, gloves, and a down type jacket. Definitely jeans or long pants. I grabbed a blanket from my car to wear! 2. It's an easy walk, but for those with wheelchairs or canes or walkers it can be bumpy and some areas are a bit tricky. Also given all the rain, it can be dirty dusty muddy so wear shoes you don't care about. 3. Bring your best camera bc the photo ops both with people and without are plentiful. Make sure everything is charged as there's no common area to charge things easily. I'm sure you can try the restaurant or store in case of emergencies. Or go back to your car. 4. Be prepared to walk a very slow mile. Lots to see and photograph. Took me about 1:15 and I took my time. You can definitely do this much faster if solo and not easily amused or maybe not big on pics. And you can take a lot longer if you like detail and creativity amidst a natural space. 5. It's dark despite tons of lighting so be wise when walking. 6. Parking is free and easy. Just follow the signs or people. There is a walk to the line from the car. Lots of walking in general. 7. Our park reservations were for 6pm. I arrived around 6:10 and the line took about 20 mins. Was done by 7:40. 8. Cute shopping at the beginning before entering an next to the line to get in. It is an outdoor nursery type shop and two small indoor Knick knack type stores. Prices are typical tourist type prices. Also next to it is a coffee and pastry stand but you have to go first and then get in line or get out of line if you have people to hold your place as there's a line to get goodies. 9. Farmhouse is a restaurant on site. Checkout their Yelp. Make reservations as they book up fast. Good for groups. Food imo is average. Standouts were the beet salad, French fries, short rib appetizer, salmon and halibut. They use minimal seasoning at this place so if your health requires less sodium you're good! Get the pan fried crispy skin salmon lol. 10. If you're trying to cut costs there's an El Pollo Loco right as you exit the freeway coming here and before going up the hill to the park. 11. Great holiday thing to do with a large group. Entertainment for most everyone. If you're an outdoorsy, artsy, creative loving, enjoy exercise and family time type, this will be right up your alley!
