My family and I attended our first LA Sparks women's basketball game at the Crypto.com Arena in DTLA (formerly known as Staples Center). It also happened to be opening night, AND the Sparks were celebrating 30 years of women's basketball representing Los Angeles. Our tickets were gifted to us by 1sttix.org, an organization that arranges for donors to purchase tickets to various events and then generously donates them to first responders. Back to Crypto.com arena. We were able to park within mere yards of the main entrance on Figueroa Street. The parking cost was $35.00, which was ok with me. Entering the arena left me in awe as this arena is HUGE!! One of the largest arenas I have ever visited. There was so much positive energy simply walking to our seats, with Sparks fans purchasing Sparks merchandise, food, and beverages, great R&B music blaring over the overhead speakers, and, most importantly, fans simply enjoying themselves. We located our seats and had a GREAT and FUN time from the moment we walked into the arena until we left. The Sparks management team truly does things right, as fans throughout the arena were treated to great music, exciting performances by various entertainers, and, of course, great women's basketball, as my family and I are true fans of women's sports, period. The Sparks lost their home opener to the defending WNBA champions, Las Vegas Aces, but even in defeat, the Sparks played hard, never gave up, and proved that women's basketball is AWESOME!! read more

A couple of weeks ago my man and I decided to purchase tickets for our first Sparks game (on 6/28/16). It certainly is a different vibe than what you will experience at a Lakers or Clippers game, but we are hooked now. It's not just great players like Candace Parker or Nneka Ogwumike. Sure, you will most likely see Magic Johnson, part owner, in a front row seat. But it's competitive basketball. It's women with shapely arms and legs. It's the Staples Center. Affordable tickets. The deejay and his old school vs new school antics. The younger kids performing during breaks and half-time. Sparky, the canine mascot. Indeed, it's very empowering for females of all ages. More importantly, this was great entertainment for our own two little girls. Pat Summit died earlier that day. Meanwhile, Parker posted season high rebound numbers that night. (You have some reading to do if you don't understand that coach/player relationship.) In turn, the Staples Center delivered a tribute video worthy of such a tremendous basketball coaching queen. We could not have chosen a better first WNBA game to attend. The Sparks are kickin' tail this season (14-1). A BIG THANKS to Edward K, I was given 2 tickets for a Sparks home game. I've been to a few Laker games, but never a Sparks game so this was a nice change of pace. Although Seattle lost miserably to the Sparks 65-48, there were a few great moments attributed by Marie Ferdinand Harris,Delisha Milton Jones, Sidney Spencer (she's my favorite). No, I did not see any dunks by Lisa Leslie nor Candace Parker here but I have to say, Sparks is a solid all around team. As for Sparks home games, Sparky the dog mascot doesn't make his way around the whole area. Of course, I sat next to tons of kids who yelled "Sparky" the whole game. So imagine "SPARKY, SPARKY, SPARKY...to infinity and beyond! " Other notes, there were tons of giveaways during the game. One person even won a Macbook! Other prizes includes free yearly parking at LAX, free cable for a year, $625 in Trader Joes GC. I guess they can do so when they charge $10.50 for a imported beer eh? I recommend this as a great family event. Side note: The prizes seems to come out between the tunnel on row 15 and 16. We sat right in 16, 2nd row. The Sparks kids were giving out some freebies and we were right in front of them but they didn't give us anything. Booo....one star deducted. read more

Don't judge women's basketball until you've at least been to one game. Guaranteed you'll be hooked. These women play with their heart and soul. They have so much love and passion for the game. The ticket prices are afforable. You can even get discounts on gold star or stub hub. I love these games. For a decent price you can sit close to the players. They always play good music. I have to admit I used to think the WNBA was a joke... Like seriously ladies can't play basketball, they cant work on teams, their vaginas can't handle the multi-tasking of bouncing a ball and running down a court, ladies shouldn't get sweaty!! Yes all these terrible stereotypes I harbored but that was before watching a live game! These ladies are phenomenal and the game was exciting and entertaining. I'm not much of a basketball fan but the performances, dj and excitement of the game made me a fan-for-the-day. (I would much rather prefer watching it live now than on TV). Overall great game, the ladies were phenomenal and played with as much heart and vigor as any man. Kudos ladies can't wait to go to another game ^_^ ! read more

I had always wanted to attend a Sparks game, but it took two free tickets (from American Association of University Women) to finally get me there. Thank you AAUW! But once there, I had the best time. First, the Staples Center is very accessible and easy to negotiate. We found our seats and were very pleased with the personnel working there. I got the feeling that the staff at the Staples are just as much into the games as the fans are. For example, I was assisted a couple of times (without asking) to get to my seat. I also really liked the family-friendly atmosphere. In addition, there was great interaction between the guy DJ and the crowd with old school and new school music. However, if I had one criticism it would be to add a serious female DJ who could project her voice and look like she could stand up for herself. How about putting some money down for a Wanda.Sykes-type who understood the crowd as well the DJ too? It would be so edgy--people would come for the "comedy" but end up staying for the game. Which reminds me, the game is very exciting. The Sparks are interesting because they aren't just giants lumbering down the court to dunk another basket. Due to their height, the young women are always playing classic basketball and demonstrating their incredible passing skills for the fans. And finally,with all the scandals eating up other professional sports stars, the Sparks not only have a squeaky clean sports star in Candace Parker, but every girl will soon be asking for a Sparks doll. She is an athlete without a past and comes across very confident and open to others. Two more plusses--restroom cleanliness and the price of tickets. We love going to Sparks games. It's so much fun and it's inexpensive. It's family friendly entertainment and very empowering for women. Take your daughters. Parking has become more difficult with all the construction but you can still have a fun evening out for about $50. And support women in sports. FAN! read more

Lisa Leslie has left the building and they haven't won a championship since La Tasha Byers was asked to leave. There are a lot of recycled older players in the mix for the 2010 season. I'm keeping my expectations low. Candice is talented,... I mean REALLY TALENTED, but I'm not quite sure of her leadership skills. Perhaps time will tell. read more

I love going to see the Sparks play. The Staples center is somehow made intimate and floor seats are actually affordable. I have never felt more appreciated as a fan, than when attending a WNBA game. It is almost like the players play for love of the game and they know their fans feel the same way. The vibe in the arena is always positive and welcoming. I'm not a big fan of the parking set-up, the sort of mad dash scramble for the cheapest lot in the nearby vicinity, but I don't ever feel like waiting for the bus at night after the game, so I deal. Mid-day weekend games would take care of that problem, but that isn't happening this season at least. It would also be ideal if you could bring snacks in to the Staples Center as the food/beverage options inside are a little outrageous, but the up-close feel of being that intimately connected to the game is worth forgoing the snacks for a few hours. read more

Guess who saw Candace Parker slam dunk--the second dunk ever in the WNBA (Lisa Leslie had the first)!!!! MEEEEEE!!!! The WNBA is trying this whole family friendly angle, so they have kids come out and dance during time outs and the "Old Skool Crew" bust some moves during half time. This family orientation makes for a really fun evening even sans family. I went with a group of chicas and we sat in the VIP full services section which was really nice in theory, except that you still have to pay for the food and well, we were too cheap to spring for it. but full services would be nice if I wasnt so cheap, because I am also lazy. The Sparks are the top ranked team in the West, Conn ranks number one in the East. You should splurge and get some $15 tickets, maybe you will get to see the third WNBA dunk ever!!! read more

Did not have a good time on our visit. A family(not friendly) had sat in our seats and it took a minute to get our seats back. We also were tricked into a raffle that required a $100 deposit(witch we were told was refundable) that never raffled and they charged our card even after we called the next day and asked them not to they went ahead and charged it the day after we called. Please avoid the sales rep names China. She is not all smiles and will do what ever it takes(including miss leading and luring,lying)to get her commission. read more
