Went to a Los Angeles Kings game last Saturday at Crypto.com Arena to watch Anže Kopitar, number 11. Been watching him since his rookie days, so it felt right to go see him after 20 seasons and now retiring. But being there honestly confirmed why I stepped away from sports entertainment. The place felt **disgusting**. Everywhere you look--ads pushing **poison** food, **poison** alcohol, nonstop consumption. I get it, it's business... but let's be real, there's already enough money coming in from tickets, merch, and everything else. At some point it just feels like greedy lobbying for products that are straight up harming people. What really hit me was how normalized it all is. You see people struggling to move, clearly dealing with health issues, but still being fed the same junk inside. That's not community--that's a cycle. And it felt **gross** being part of it. They talk about fan appreciation, they salute veterans, but outside those walls we all know there are real issues people are dealing with every day. It starts to feel like distraction more than appreciation. What are we teaching kids in that space? That enjoyment means drinking, getting drunk, and loading up on junk while watching sports? That's not culture--that's programming the next generation to repeat the same cycles of alcoholism? Maybe I've just changed, but that environment doesn't align with me anymore. I came during the Vegas Golden Knights vs. LA Kings match-up and these morons played the World Series game on the Jumbotron WHILE the hockey game was playing! I've lost a lot of respect for this organization, how dare they disrespect the players (on BOTH teams) like that?! I was completely distracted and upset, I couldn't even hear the calls being made because the dumb crowd kept yelling at the stuff happening on the Jumbotron. These aren't real fans, "you want baseball? Then leave!" I seriously felt like walking out. I'm going to be very hesitant coming here now... I will say they have great 50% off deals for merch. The Kings were founded on June 5, 1967 after Jack Kent Cooke was awarded an NHL expansion franchise for Los Angeles on February 9, 1966. That's the year I graduated from high school. I definitely follow every team as the NHL expands. This year I was in high school and the Kings were one of SIX teams that began play as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. The Los Angeles Kings won two Stanley Cups, one in 2012 and the other in 2014, which is good. Roughly a third of the NHL's teams are still seeking their first. The Kings won their Cups under head coach Darryl Sutter. Sutter was extremely successful with the team at the outset, winning championships in 2012 and 2014 and advancing to the Western Conference Finals in 2013. Those were his first three years with the team. His first year, he was hired mid-season after the firing of Terry Murray. The 2012 Stanley Cup Finals saw the Kings face another foe from the Northeast, the New Jersey Devils. The most interesting thing about the 2012 playoffs to me was the manner in which the Kings won. They had to win their final regular season game to earn a spot in the playoffs. They entered as an 8-seed (worst seed) in the West. They then went on to win their matchups against the 1-seed Vancouver Canucks (4-1), 2-seed St. Louis Blues (4-0), and 3-seed Phoenix Coyotes (4-1). Yep - they not only dispatched the top three seeds in the West, but they did so with relative ease. New Jersey was the 6-seed coming out of the East. The Devils were the worst seed to ever have home-ice advantage in the Finals. The Kings became the first 8-seed to ever win a pro sports championship in North America. Truly impressive. On a funnier note, superstitious Kings fans may have had Taylor Swift's commemorative banner inside the Staples Center removed. Why? Because it was widely-believed that Taylor Swift's banner jinxed the team. The Kings haven't won a playoff series since it was hung in the rafters in 2015. In 2019, the banner was covered up during Kings games. By the end of 2020, it was removed altogether. Taylor Swift had received the banner for selling out the most number of shows at Staples Center. Ice Hockey in Los Angeles, California... My friends in LA are loyal fans of The LA Kings. They made me curious as to why... Currently, The Kings are ranked at the bottom of their Division this 2020 season. The NHL season has been postponed due to the Corona Virus Situation. I'm so glad that I had a chance to go to a live game before Social Distancing took place. VENUE: Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles TICKETS: purchased online. I showed my barcode on my phone at the door and my tickets were printed out. All four of us were present together. PARKING: I found metered street parking a few blocks away and used my Disabled Person's Placard The only Ice Hockey experience that I can compare this with is the Golden Knights of Las Vegas. T-Mobile Arena is made into a production with lights, smoke, props, etc. The LA Kings are a little less theatrical. However, the fans are just as enthusiastic and loud as ever! The good thing about this game was that I got to witness a Hat Trick in person by Dustin Brown! It's unreal how fans will throw their caps onto the ice after a player has made 3 goals! Caps are collected from the ice and usually donated to a worthy charity. What I learned from this 3-7-20 game was "Kopi, Kopi, Kopi!" (the nickname for the current team captain) and "Go Kings Go!" read more

I recently attended the Los Angeles Kings Japan night at the Staples Center. It's been awhile since I've been to a King's game and let me tell you, this was my favorite game. Despite the insane crowd outside for Kobe's memorial, the game was a lot of fun. The area outside the stadium was sectioned off, so once we got near the stadium you had to have a ticket to enter the area outside the stadium. It was easy to go through security and we really didn't have to wait at all. They scanned our electronic tickets and gave us some paper tickets they printed out. We walked around the outside of the arena to see the people and the promotions. It was easy to find our seats and they were comfortable. The people around us were really nice. My companions were King's fan and even though I am not a King's fan, everyone was really pleasant and nice. It's always fun when you sit near people that are super cool. I could hear groups cheering for both sides throughout the game. It was all good fun and not malicious like I've experienced in the past for different teams in this stadium. It was fun to watch the different promotions and give always during the game. It was also fun when the crowd was panned and you could see people dancing and waving. It was a slow game (slower than usual) so I'm sure both teams were tired. The third period was like watching a public skating rink with people just skating in circles. I love how they highlight the heart of the game. We were fortunate to have a Boy Scout troop open a big flag on the ice for the National Anthem. The Nation Anthem was nice but the guy singing it majorly screwed up. It's ok, I'd be nervous if it was me. Since I came with a group on a promotion (Nisei week foundation for Japan Night), we got a branded long sleeve shirt for free. We also were able to meet the Nisei week court and the Nisei Week mascot on the outdoor patio before the game. Some people stayed after and took a picture near the ice after the game. Overall, it was fun and much more pleasant than what I have experienced in the past at King's games. Maybe I shouldn't wait so long to come back again. read more

My dad had corporate seats when I was a tot.  That meant, our seats were on the glass just on the other side of the action. So close to everything! Hockey "live" is truly amazing. Some of the players I most remember: Marcel Dionne, Bernie Nicholls, Rogie Vachon, Butch Goring, Charlie Simmer to Wayne Gretzky, Dave Taylor, Luc Robitaille, Kelly Hrudy, Rob Blake to Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Quick. All of these players were fantastic, and have given me lots of wonderful memories. The "voice" ========== Bob Miller. 44 years as the KINGS voice. I miss him. He retired in 2017. The bf won us some kings tickets for the night so we made it a date. We didn't know it but it was la pride night, so very rainbow inside. We had good seats, right behind the goal and up a bit so we can see the ice and the game. It's super cold inside so make sure to bundle up as if you're going to the snow for the day. It was a lot of fun, I've been to a bunch of games before at staple center so I already knew what to expect. We ended up grabbing some food from the concession stand, wasn't too impressed with the selection. They had no vegetarian options besides tater tots or nachos. Lol, she didn't want to go because it was not basketball but NOW she is a big time KINGS fan and a Drew Doughty fan. There is nothing like being at a live hockey game let alone a Kings game. Go Kings Go! There's no bad location to sit and in VIP you can even have service at your seats. If your an AMEX card holder make sure you go to the centurion lounge as I feel the food and drinks are slightly better tasting and stronger. There's a laser light show in beginning which feels like your at a dance club... FUN! So much energy going on no matter which team they are playing. What can I say? I have been a Kings fan for a while now. It's different from the Lakers or Clippers that share Staples. I think Kings fans are the best. It's not the easiest game to understand and there are a ton of nuances that you need to learn in order to get what is going on. I will say that unlike the NBA, the players who are out there are trying their asses off every second they are on the ice. It's too bad we don't see that in the NBA except during the playoffs. I love watching the Kings at home. However, I am amazed at how fast -paced the action is in person. Almost every time I've gone, the Kings have won. Last night my buddy and I went to see the Kings vs. the Edmonton Oilers. We ate in one of the burger lounges (I forget the name) and had a burger with a Stella Artois. Hit the spot. The atmosphere at the Staples Center before a Kings game is absolutely electric. You can feel it blocks away before you enter the doors. We walked to our seats in Section 205 and every time we go, I love seeing everyone decked out in their Kings jerseys- past and present. Just before faceoff, both teams paid a moment of silence in respect for the victims of the Paris terror attack. Once the game got underway, the action was indeed fast-paced. The Kings scored in the first two minutes and they were answered back time and again by the Oilers. The game winning goal was scored by Nick Shore of the Kings in the last two minutes of the game. Pandemonium ensued. Another Kings win!!! Staples Center has several new venues in it. There's a Draft Kings Bar and Grill along with a refurbished Team L.A. store. I'm not a huge hockey fan but if they would have won the game they would have taken over first place in their division. There's something about hockey fans. I saw more come fcku me boots last night at the Kings game than you would expect to find at a porn star convention. Somehow that "come hither" appeal is thrown off balance by the linebacker sized jerseys these ladies were sporting. However, I digress. Hockey is one of the better sports IMHO. Wouldn't it be great if we could leverage hockey conflict resolution at work? A few "You talking to me?" taunts, followed by gloves being thrown off, refs clearing the floor and encouraging the two quarrelsome cube dwellers to fight it out. Hey! ...and every now and again, a hockey game breaks out. I'm not a "die hard" hockey fan, but I really do enjoy the game. Every time the players jam each other into to walls, I grind my teeth and turn into a caveman like everyone else. I scream with glee, raving for more. Half the time, I have no idea where the puck is and I really don't care...as long as it's not in our goal. It's the only sporting event where I feel like a cougar checking out the nubile, strapping players. I've never actually been to a game when the Kings have won :( but I always have a good time. Staples is an outstanding venue. The team is doing better than it has in a long time, although they lost tonight. I heard rumblings about Deiter Rhuele's more recent choices of music sound bytes (Blackeyed Peas, etc) Pah, pah, pah, pah, pah Poker Face and was afraid. I did not hear any of that lameness last night. Thank the Lord, we only heard bytes from Disturbed and others like them...anything other than Pantera and Slayer at a Hockey game should be expressly forbidden. We scored a screaming deal on seats; center ice, row 5 for $89.00. I used Smart Circle on Ticketmaster and our seats were what most people paid for the next section up. Having lived in NYC, I get the distinct feeling that L.A. fans aren't as loyal to the Kings as say New Yorkers are to the Rangers, but we Angelenos are somewhat fickle. At least our "away" jerseys rock. read more

You know those days where they had the funky crown logo on uniforms that were the same colors as the Lakers. Well I have been very happy to see what has happened this season and appears to be a direction. It looks like the Kings will be in the cup finals this year for the first time since I was a frosh in College and only the second time ever. So learn a game you dont know, go see the Kings live. You will be blown away by the nonstop action, hearing the skates on the ice, the crunching of bodies as vicious body/hip checks are doled out and the electricity that permeates staples center after a goal puts the Kings up. Hockey is SO boring on TV...but in-person? It's, dare I say, almost better than basketball. O_O Let me explain...Every minute is action-packed. I jokingly chanted, "Fight, fight, fight!" under my breath and within a few minutes, there really was a fight. Prices are also cheap (since no one goes). In terms of seats, the lower section is fun to be close to the players but if you want an actual good view of the whole game and field, sit in the premiers (waitress service included!). read more

Yes I often miss televised games due to their 10:30pm start time and my job, but Bob Miller's voice, knowledge, and excitement are one of my favorite things on earth when I have a chance to enjoy. My support is unconditional, my yearly pilgrimages to Los Angeles and Staples will continue, and while I have 11 Kings jersies and am the only Ohioan with an "LAKINGS" license plate, I simply cannot rank the team or organization as a 5.0 until a cup is won. A crowd of Kings fans can entertain me anytime! Used to have season tickets but just can't make enough games.... I think that everyone has fun at a nice hockey game. There are sometimes fights in the stands. Nacho cheese has landed on someone at any given moment. It's a good natured rowdy crowd that like Metallica and stick control. They yell and stand by their team! The energy coming off the ice is amazing. There are lots of families here too - just be warned there is a lot of foul language and beer chugging :-) The best are the fights on the ice! When ur winning ur really winning. Bring a date to cuddle - no, don't cuddle. Yell and scream for the team!! Any seat in this house has a great view and I would say for hockey it's better to sit higher up to get the full top view of the ice. Go Kings Go! read more
