Taco Thursday? Don't mind if I do! Los Comales is a staple for my coworkers! I've had it numerous times in the past, but this was my first time having it in years! I ordered the Taco Combo that came with 3 tacos with your choice of meat, rice, beans, and a 16oz beverage of choice. I ordered a cesina taco, a carne asada taco, and a pollo adobado taco. It was my first time ordering a cesina taco and I'm so glad I did. It was delicious! Usually my go-to is carne asada but it was a little chewier than usual and it just didn't compare to the tender cesina taco. The chicken was alright, but the cesina was amazing! I work nearby and stop in often for lunch. Service is always quick and attentive. I love that every table has a container of pickled veggies to snack on while I wait for my meal. I love their steak tortas, tacos, and huevos con chorizo. A colleague gets the taco platter on Tuesdays and raves about the value and delicious food. I had a good experience at Los Comales until I tried one of there Burrito combo , I noticed the burrito was much smaller and barely any meat and I ordered extra avocado and I didn't notice any extra avocado, I just know that I will stay away from the combos on my next visit, besides that the service was very good and my food was made quick and the carrots were really good read more

What the... I like their food but tonight I called for a pick up order and talked to a woman who didn't speak much English and she treated me like she was offended because I didn't speak Spanish. I was NOT patronizing, insulting or anything at all. I was nice. I never thought I would see that in an English speaking country where you're made to feel like you don't belong because you don't speak Spanish. They should have a designated employee who will take the English speaking calls if the person doesn't want to deal with them. At the close of the call, I thanked her and she just said uh huh like who cares and hung up. And I didn't even complete the sentence. If you don't want white English speaking people there, put a sign on your door and a message on your system. They weren't like this before; she pretty much makes me not want to go back. read more

This place served high quality, authentic Mexican food. I liked that there were 17 different choices of meat and that you could mix and match for your meal. There were also spicy carrots and peppers on the table for you to enjoy. Homemade chips came with the guacamole, too. The place had plenty of seating but also offered curbside pick-up via their app. We dined in and our service was prompt and friendly. We had two 3 taco dinners, chips & guac, and 2 drinks for $41. I'm surprised the rating is so low. They serve some of the best steak tacos I've ever had - love that they serve so many different types of meat. My faves are the suadero, milanesa, cesina and bistek. All especial (sour cream and avocado). My husband gets the al pastor too. We get it every time we're in the area. I had high hopes on this place as there's so many positive reviews. So my husband and his friends just went here an hour ago to have some tacos. I texted him that I want a burrito but NO beans and avocado. I patiently waited for him to come home and gives me the burrito. Guess what?! My very first bite is beans. I didn't even want it anymore. I'll be frank, this place is not easy on the eyes. Don't go here if you need a swanky atmosphere to enjoy your meal. My boyfriend is Mexican so he's always making me go to Mexican restaurants. I say making me because I have yet to enjoy a Mexican restaurant in Chicago. After getting food poisoning at Uncle Julio's, I vowed to never eat Mexican food in Chicago again. Seriously, I kicked and screamed but finally relented because it was a celebratory event for him. Service is decent. It took a little long for the waitress to come to our table at first. I had to flash her a death stare to finally get her attention. The food was pretty good. The rice and refried beans were delicious and the meat tasted good but was a bit chewy. Also, I believe some if not all of it is pre cooked. I asked for carne asada and she said the only carne asada they had was the kind you stuff in a taco...meaning it was cut into small pieces already. I didn't think about it at the time but if they're cooking from scratch they should've been able to give me a whole one. Either way, it's not a huge deal because places like Chipotle cook in bulk but I do question how long it was since the batch I ate was made. As fast as one goes out the phone rings at the same time another order is ready. From the minute you look at the tortilla you know something is different. Once you bite into one you're hooked. These are the usual store bought and microwaved tortillas these baby's are home made and make everything taste better. The steak burrito was like heaven, loaded with meat and everything it takes to fill you up. I've eaten bigger burritos but not better, don't get me wrong they're not small. Some places like to brag about how big there's are and like that guy who did it just isn't as good. Chilaquiles with salsa verde and chicken would be the most requested last meal on death row if the only knew to ask for it. Every time I purchase any meat there it is always super dry and hard. The tortillas for the tacos feel like they just took it out of the bag and didn't warm it up. I go back once in a while to see if they improved but I still get the same mediocre quality of a taco, torta, or burrito. It is so unpleasant to take a bite out of a taco and struggle trying to chew it. They also chop their meat way too big and on top of that it was probably left too long sitting on the comal.
