First time trying this place. I tried the shredded beef with red sauce Gordita, pork with green sauce gordita and poblano and cheese gordita, they were all excellent. Gorditas are all gluten free (masa/corn flour) as well as the fillings. I could have eaten at least one more. They were all very tasty and I will be back to try all of the others. They had about a dozen filling options. I was in the restaurant on a Saturday and it was very busy, great service, super clean and bright place. I purchased 2 lbs of barbacoa this morning at $14.99 per pound. When I got home, I weighed the order out of curiosity. Including the foam container and foil the meat was wrapped in, the total weight was 30.1 oz. Two pounds should be 32 oz of meat alone, so depending on the container and foil weight, I was likely short by at least a quarter pound. At nearly $30 for the order, that's disappointing. If a customer tried to pay less up front for two pounds, it wouldn't be accepted, so accuracy should work both ways. The barbacoa itself was flavorful, but it was extremely greasy. I ended up draining roughly ¾ cup of grease before serving. I don't mind paying for quality, but I do expect correct portions and reasonable preparation. 4/19/23: Ok so I hate writing this because they can be good, they are still very friendly to me etc BUT the gorditas are not consistent AT ALL. Either the green chicharron is majorly spicy or it is majorly bland. Then last visit, my steak & cheese gordita had no cheese inside BUT burnt cheese outside of it. I had to cut it all off, it was so hard and unedible. My moms was perfect she said. I will only be returning for mom, she likes them alot but then again my mom prefers bland food. I've visited this location a handful of times. I have yet learned my lesson. Here's the breakdown. FOOD: great authentic regional taste from Durango. SERVICE: Not so good. This is the 3rd time, they did not get my order correctly. 1st time, I ordered and received 2 burritos when I ordered 3. The second time, they gave me an incorrect ordered that was not meant for me. This final time, I ordered 2 burritos and a gordita and received 1 and 1. Very disappointing. IN CONCLUSION, this place has so much potential but not sure if I can go back. So so good! I've ate here twice in the last week. Both times have been fantastic. I did take out for lunch during week and dine in for dinner during week. This place is a local home town favorite, like a mom and pop owned, fresh ingredients type of place. Their carne Asada tacos are the best I've had in awhile. On 2/17/2024 they took more than an hour for our food to show up & when the food showed up the order of two tacos piratas were wrong, the manager of this location did offer to make it right & not charge us for those. This is Gordita heaven! It's located in downtown Elgin, with plenty of parking nearby. The menu consists of gorditas with various different fillings, from meat to potatoes to beans with cheese, YUM! They also have burritos and a pirata taco which is a a combination of a quesadilla and a taco. The drinks here are huge if you order a juice or horchata. The prices are unbelievably reasonable. The gorditas cost $1.99 you could easily feed two under $20. The gorditas here are handmade and are cooked on the parilla instead of fried. They are generously stuffed and are brought over with two choices of salsa, red or green. The red one is spicier! The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly and attentive. Saw some paisa's leaving this joint so I knew I had to hit it up. Was not disappointed. Prices are super cheap and the quality was amazing. My friends and I had a taco pirata(10/10 would recommend), a requesón con queso gordita and a papas con chorizo y queso gordita and deshebrada con salsa verde gordita with an horchata to wash it all down. Food is good but service is not unacceptable. I've ordered the food and tried to pay with credit card but they said it's minimum $10 charge and didn't have cash. So I had to order more items which I did and over over $23. I had to grab the small items that is already done and told them I will come back to get the rest of the food. I had gotten busy and forgot to pick it up. Went back on next day, Sunday and they were closed. So Monday I went back to ask for the food. The lady flat out told me they threw away my food and they won't do anything about it. I asked why they didn't call me back to tell me the food is there?! She just gave me a blank face.
