Over priced especially for a dirty strip mall place. The sushi place there before that was soooo good.

Ordered the Aztec stuffed Chicken this time (along with another shrimp sope) and a side of rice and beans with consomme as an extra special request so I could add it to the rice (definitely a good combo btw). The poblano cream sauce on the chicken was SO GOOD and just the right spice/heat level. Perfectly cooked asparagus and homemade mashed potatoes made me understand why this was labeled as a "best seller". I'll definitely order it again. I'm yelping My Cocina within a week of our visit so I can remember it for future date night or family meal visits! It's in an unassuming strip mall and has an extensive food and drink menu. Stand outs were the flaming tequila saganaki appetizer, kiddie mocktail options, and tons of hot options like Chile rellenos, tacos, elotes, and burritos. My kids didn't really like the mac and cheese (stating it was tooooo cheesy), but it looked decent and used cavatappi noodles. My $12 carnitas burrito was a great deal and enough for 2 meals. Our $100 bill covered: - a frozen mango margarita (towers, which are equivalent of 5 margaritas, are available too) - cosmo martini - saganaki appetizer lit up table side - elotes tamales - carnitas burrito - 2 kids' meals - complimentary chips and salsa - tax and 20% tip Service was extremely attentive and pleasant! Came out to My Cocina as a group of four on a Friday evening. We made a reservation ahead of time but the restaurant did not fully fill. The inside had a good amount of seating, a full bar, simple decor. Our server was bright and cheery when greeting us! He did an amazing job of giving our group space to talk but also check-in to ensure we were taken care of. Our group started with a round of drinks that included a variety of margaritas. The server was great about asking what rim types we wanted: salt, sugar, tajin. The Friday special was $5 off a margarita tower. When I asked how many margaritas fit in the tower, it was a mixed response of 4 or 5. We saw other tables with these and it looked to be all ice. The pricing didn't make sense to buy if only four are included. When it came to entrees, our group ordered the taco salad, steak tacos, chicken mole, and enchiladas with poblano mole. The taco salad was good but meat was a bit dry and lettuce tasted like bag lettuce. The chicken mole came out as full chicken wings with bones included which was not expected. The Poblano Mole was on both mole dishes and had a good heat to it. Overall the food was good but nothing that blew us away. Lastly, there must have been a mix up with our orders being entered. When ordering the taco salad, our server said "fajita bowl" which i corrected him. (2) fajita salads came out of the kitchen with our food which we sent back. They also still appeared on our bill. This place is a gem in the NW suburbs! Our server, Junior, was so amazing. Warm, hospitable and super friendly. All of our needs were taken care of. The food was awesome. We went for lunch, and they had lunch specials. Most notably, much of our group, myself included, is vegetarian or vegan, and they had so many options! The food was flavorful with bright flavors, and not too greasy, which can often be the case with vegan Mexican food. This place will be on our regular rotation for sure. read more

I have often passed this place in the strip mall at 59 and Schaumburg roads, but I'm so glad I finally stopped in. They have specials every day, and today is $5 Mojitos, in several flavors. I tried the watermelon, and it was refreshing, not too sweet. The Huarache with Shrimp Diablo was tasty and had just the right amount of spice for me. I did ask our wonderful server, Juan, for it to be less spicy, though. Great chips and guacamole. The service, drinks, atmosphere, and wide menu variety make this a great little restaurant. It's one of those days when I don't want to cook and just want to relax; I feel like I deserve it after such a busy week. I want to explore a new Mexican restaurant because I have a taste for it and I'm feeling spontaneous. I chose this restaurant since it has good reviews and an intriguing menu. I used the Uber Eats app to get takeout. The service was so efficient that the food was ready in 20-25 minutes. When I retrieved the meal, I had a brief look around the restaurant. There is lots of seating, including booths and tables, and there is a lovely long bar. I regret not dining there. I don't mind a glass of Margarita. I'm impressed at how they packed the food because the meals were still warm when I arrived home. They were considerate enough to serve sour cream and guacamole on the side to keep the dish from becoming soggy. The fajita bowl was tasty. The brilliant hues are enhanced by the use of fresh vegetable ingredients. The pulled chicken was well-seasoned and cooked welled so it wasn't dry. The quesadilla was straightforward but wonderful. The tortilla was perfectly toasted, giving it a perfect crust. The chicken-to-cheese ratio is beautifully balanced. The steak burrito is a safe bet that will not disappoint. It's tasty and savory, with fresh ingredients that add a lovely texture. I believed I'd discovered my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I'm looking forward to experience their dine-in services. Made a quick in-person dinner stop at My Cocina last night while driving from Elgin back to the city. Yelp provided this place with high number of stars and many reviews, so thanks again Yelp. We were a group of 3 and I'd say we overall enjoyed this dinner. I would do 4.5 stars if that was an option, but let's go through the details. We just walked in and there was plenty of space. It was probably around 715pm and they were scheduled to close at 8pm on this Sunday evening. As vegetarians, the staff was very helpful and flexible with us in terms of removing meat items, etc. They also offered to give us the vegan menu, but then we wouldn't have gotten the cheese, sour cream, etc. So we stuck to the main menu this time. The first brought out some chips and salsa. Loved it and we're off to a great start. We also had the nachos, which were by far the best part of our meal. They have this cheesy sauce, which is SO good. Very creamy and maybe it's a hint of cream cheese? I don't know, but it was great. The black beans were also nicely flavored resulting in just an awesome start to the meal. Additionally, we had the cheese enchilada - 2 with the red and 2 with green. The sauces were fine. I think the enchiladas were fine. I could say this about everything on the menu, but putting in the same nacho sauce might have boosted everything else up, but alas. The enchiladas were still good. Then we probably over-ordered, but we also got some cheese and onion quesadillas. Since we weren't getting meat on them, I asked for beans on the side, instead. Again really fresh tasting and good. They came with guac and sour cream on the side. I also layered on some of the leftover salsa from our chips. Good stuff. Well, the only things I'll point out are some nits. Like, they charged us extra for that side of beans, when I intended for that to be a "sub" for the meat. It's really a nothing, because the waiter was awesome and we had a good time. It's a hike, but if I'm in the area again, I would definitely be back and next time maybe I'd try some of the vegan meat options they have. Awesome job and keep it up. read more

Servers are very nice and laugh with everyone, food is flavorful with Mexican spices -- even their vegan dishes!, I was also pleasantly surprised with how smart and tasty their margaritas are. First time visiting their new location, their old location didn't have a bar but their food has always been great. New location looks awesome and the bar addition as well. Good music playing. We arrived around 8PM and it wasn't very busy. We ordered the char boiled Mexican oysters for an appetizer. These were very good . They did not bring out the chips and salsa. We had your ask for it. I ordered the steak tampiquena which I ordered the steak medium rare and it came out, medium. I know it's hard to cook skirt steak because it's so thin. The pricing wasn't too bad, but it seemed the portion size was on the smaller size. The overall taste of the steak was pretty good. Michelle ordered the shrimp fajitas, which had a great taste.! Who knew this was here?! Such an amazing hole-in-the-wall that I will 100% be going back to. Nestled in a strip mall, My Cocina Grill is a cozy Mexican restaurant and bar. My first impressions was that the place was very clean, vibey, and I felt very welcomed by all the staff. First off, their margs - WOW. Honestly the best margaritas I've ever had. Not only did they all look fancy and unique (lot of them arrived flamed by fire!), but they tasted superb. They have one of the most extensive margarita and drink menus I've ever seen. They also have daily specials which are such a steal. The birria tacos at this restaurant were also out of this world! Sooooo juicy, tender, and flavorful. The guacamole was also fire. Also, I could go on and on about the friendly and amazing service here. I adored the staff. You already know I'll be back here again. My husband and I love this restaurant! The food is just so delicious, there's weekly specials, and the drinks are yummm! The service is always great, I think sometimes they could use more help but I think that's an issue everywhere. Gotta give some grace. Plus the staff are always friendly and cheerful, so to me that's makes all the difference. As I noted, there are weekly specials which is nice. Their guacamole is yummy and the salsas are drool worthy! I've had a mix of tacos and enchiladas before, it's so hard for me to get anything else because they're soo good. I love their mole, I'm not a mole person but it's fantastic - not too sweet and just a great balance in flavor. They have a whole vegan menu now, which is interesting. Didn't think there would be such a need for that, but apparently! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they really need to move on from Jose Cuervo. This is a tough one. I thought the food was good. My family of 5 ate just about everything that was put on the table. Tacos, burrito, chips and salsa, guacamole, quesadilla, and mac n cheese. It was all good, some exceptional. The service was rough. There was another large party, so that may have played a role, but it took us almost 2 hours to eat Mexican food. After we were seated, they forgot about us; no water, no chips & salsa, no order taking. Eventually, we got a waiter to take our order. I had to ask for water and chips & salsa. When the food came out my wife's order was completely wrong (burrito instead of fajitas). I had to flag the waiter down just to pay once we were done. My Cocina restaurant is located in a cute little strip mall in Streamwood at the corner of Rt 59/Sutton Rd. Plenty of free parking. Upon entering, guests are greeted with traditional Mexican music and a trendy tasteful decor and is very cozy inside. Menu has a variety of Mexican food but the twist is, they put a spin on food that elevates the experience. We ordered a plate of specialty tacos that were absolutely delicious. Prices are a little more than the average Mexican res but what really made thing from good to great was the super friendly table service! A quiet spot for great Mexican food in Streamwood. We sat outside and I had a classic margarita. It tasted delicious and had a great amount of alcohol *hiccup*! We started with the shrimp ceviche. Looks are deceiving, there was quite a bit in the bowl. It was lacking lime, a bit too dry for my liking, but enough lime squeeze makes for a great appetizer. The Carne Asada Tempiquena was plentiful and delicious. The rice was great, however the steak was a bit saltier than I hoped for. However, some of the salsas given in the beginning with chips (specifically the green one), was a great addition. It was also delicious as leftovers. Add some lime, and viola, you have a perfect steak! I also ordered the Mahi Mahi Taco because I didn't know which to choose, so I chose both! What a portion! A healthy piece of fish with mango and cilantro on a soft taco was fantastic. I and going to order tacos next time, they sounded amazing. OK, the dessert. The chocolate tees leches was good. It was moist and tasty. However, the vanilla stuffed churros? OH MY GOD, that is the best churros I have ever eaten!!! It comes with a carmel sauce, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. Four and a half stars actually - this is by far the best restaurant, that has been housed in this location since about 2000, also one of the very best Mexican restaurants in the area IMHO. The owner expanded from a small take out place about a mile away around two years ago. I would describe this as 'traditional Mexican, meets seasonal unconventional fusion Mexican'. Putting this tagline into context, the menu undergoes seasonal changes, those seasonal changes combine new-wave Mexican with Traditional Mexican - for example; the Birria Ramen (new) caught my eye, and it was exceptional. The consomme' base/stock tastes like it was made overnight (at least 8 hours) and served the next day. Try it, you will like it. Actually, you cant go wrong with anything on their menu. Another recco would be the Teqila Saganaki; instead of 'Oppah!', you'll get a 'Tequilla'! read more
