Well $47 for 1 torta, 1 soda and a side chimi with cheese should NOT be $47 - it was $32 once corrected. Food: it was ok. Not very much flavor. I hadn't been here in years and stopped to get a to go order. I never ordered hard shell tacos at a restaurant before. So I ordered 3 and 3 Al Pastor. While I waited, I watched to most amazing young lady, Abby. Cashier, waitress, busgirl. She covered everything with a warm (5 tables and a few to go orders.) The tacos were AWESOME! Honestly, I'm quite annoyed every time I order food because though the food taste delicious no one can read what I have requested on my order and I get vegetables when I don't want them. I get beans when I don't want it even though I've paid extra money for double rice. Truly, you just need to have people that can read what the request of your customers are. The food at this Mexican style restaurant was tasty and plentiful. The service was prompt, attentive, and professional. I had the quesabirria tacos which I've been craving since leaving So. Cal. They were delicious and the consommé had a delightful spice to it. My son tried the birria ramen and was very pleased, although he felt like the ramen noodle flavor packet had been used and probably wasn't necessary. My husband had the chiles rellenos and the poblano peppers were a bit spicy for him. He is used to the milder Serrano peppers at home. But the sauce was really good. The rice and beans were delicious. The tortilla chips were fresh tasting and the salsa before dinner was really flavorful. The restaurant is charming with real Mexican flair, and decorated for Valentine's Day as well. There is plenty of free parking as the restaurant has its own lot. Well do to Covid we have not been out this way for almost 2 years till tonight. We thought we would stop in... what a mistake. The quality is no longer there. Store bought chips, salsa made with roasted canned tomatoes. We both ordered enchiladas, and they came out with the wrong sauce. The rice tastes like that insta stuff you get in the bag in Walmart. I have tried ordering from this restaurant FIVE times in the past month. Every order has been declined. One excuse was maintenance at the restaurant (although they still stayed open until normal closing time). Another excuse was the order wasn't placed by 8pm. When I informed them it had been placed prior to 8 PM, their excuse was there were other orders in front of mine and they need time in between to fulfill the orders. Los Compadres, Please don't lie to me! If you can't fill my order, just say so. Quit the storytelling. So by the time I was notified my orders were canceled, it was too late to order from several other restaurants. I've been here twice and enjoyed my meal both times. The chips were fresh, but I didn't care for the regular salsa, it tasted like it had tomato paste in it, but I love the salsa verde. The first time I visited, it was mild, the second time it had a bit of a kick. I chose the combination plate both times. If a taco is one of your options, you can choose between American style (meat, lettuce, cheese, tomato) or Mexican style (meat, avocado, cilantro, tomato and cheese too, I think). So, we are here in Burlington, Wisconsin for Chocolate Fest. We had our fill of Carnie fare and wanted something else for dinner. Los Compadres it is!!! There are 4 tables for outside seating, and a dozen inside. We were quickly welcomed with a smile from our server Liset, and seated at a table in front of the window. Chips and salsa arrived quickly. The red has a fresh garden taste, the green hits you with a quick citrusy, cilantro vibe and a mild heat follows. I was torn between a few items and our server said the tender pork plate would be her choice. I was leaning that way and glad I did! The carnitas came out tender and in abundance. The beans and rice were both prepared nicely as well. My wife ordered their combination #2 which included enchilada, chimichanga, and a taco. Also with rice and beans on the side. Everything was packed full of meat and the perfect amount of sauces. Nice beer selection from both sides of the border. As well as a few wine choices. So let me preface this by saying this place is nowhere near where we live. It's an hour and 20 minute drive from our house. We stopped here a few days ago for a late night dinner because we were in town picking up a family member, and my husband used to come here often when he lived in the area. Due to the current pandemic, we placed an order to go just before 8pm. Website said they close at 8:30. Our order took 35 minutes to come out, which I thought was a lot for just tacos (I think we had 11 tacos total in our order, plus a side of rice and beans). There were only 2 other people that picked up their food in the span of time we were waiting. But... Not a huge deal. I ordered 3 chorizo tacos and 1 carne asada. What I got was 1 carne asada and 3 tacos that contained a mix of chorizo and other random meats; ground beef and some cuts of either pork or asada . Maybe they were running low on chorizo? I would have been fine with this if they'd just said something, but I thought the meat swap without telling us was kinda crappy. The tacos were AWESOME though. I can see why my husband talks about this place so much. Also, their green salsa is like nothing I've ever tasted before! So good!!!! But then today, we decided it was worth the hour and a half drive BACK just for more tacos (what?! I had a craving!!). We checked online and they list hours that say they're open. We called to place an order when we were about 20 minutes out, and no answer. At this point we were cursing ourselves for not calling before we left the house JUST to be sure. But we trusted what Google, Yelp, and their website showed: they were open. We show up and sure enough the lights were all off. So apparently they're closed on a Sunday, even though their hours online show that they're open. Not even a sign on the door. We were obviously pretty irritated that we drove all this way to find out they don't regularly update their hours with changes. This seems like a strange way to operate a restaurant. Communication with your customers is a vital part of good service (running low on a certain ingredient, listing accurate hours online...) So now we're waiting for our tacos at Super Tacos Moy down the street. I know, first world problems. read more
