Grabbed dinner here on Sunday and was it was relatively slow, which is not typical. We were seated immediately and our server was quick to greet us and grab drinks. We started with a small order of guacamole and chips; both were fresh and extremely tasty. My husband had the chicken enchiladas with red sauce, my daughter had a kids cheese quesadilla with fries and I opted for the cream of chicken rice soup and margarita flatbread. Everyone was very impressed with their choice. The flatbread was very unique in that it had a red marinara sauce with the traditional tomato, mozzarella, basil and basalmic drizzle; it really gave the dish a great flavor. The soup is usually my favorite but it wasn't up to par this time; it was too thick and pretty flavorless. I ordered food on line for pick up. My hamburger was on white bread and was soggy. Fries went into the trash as they were old and cold. I was visiting town and wanted to get dinner for my family. My son ordered tacos and they are usually great, however they also were not very good. They are usually double fried on the grill, but this time they were not and were also soggy. I called the restaurant at 9:50 am and what soup they had for the day and the girl conveyed them t me immediately. I asked to order some and she told me they don't serve soup till 10:45 am. On top of that she was not very polite. Therefore, I decided to call back at 10:45. I ordered crea of chicken rice and French Onion. My husband brought them home and I had the chicken rice which had hardly any chicken and my husband had the French Onion which had no Onions. This review is directed towards the management and or ownership of the restaurant. We came into the restaurant for our dinner and our waitress had a great personality and was very conscious of the food that was served to us. I want to state for the record. I do not hold this against the waitress and I gave her a very substantial tip at the end of our meal. The issue I have is that when we placed our orders, the food was not timed out and brought to us so fast that we never even got to finish the initial dish that was served by the time we were halfway done with our appetizer, the soups came to the table, and literally after only two spoonfuls of soup. The main course was delivered to the table. There was literally no room on the table left as everything was delivered to us. I don't believe the waitress was even aware of what was going on and how not timing out a meal affects the overall experience of a meal. I take some of the blame in this as I did not say anything to her, but I did not want to come off as one of those customers that complain. I am not sure if it is the kitchen and or the Managment staff that has no clue as how to time out meals and bring the courses to the table, allowing your customer time to finish what they were served to begin with we really do like this restaurant and we like the food but the experience that we had last night will keep us from coming back. I think there is a huge difference between breakfast and dinner at breakfast yes all the food comes to the table at one time, but for dinner timing is critical to allow your guest time to finish their appetizer and possibly even remove the dirty dishes from the table before the next course is served again our waitress was wonderful. I hold nothing against her. I believe this is a management issue that they need to address with their team and do some training and bring this to their attention so that their guests feel more comfortable and don't feel so rushed. read more

You can't visit the Midwest and not go to a Friday night fish fry! So after getting picked up from MKE out group headed to Lucky Star to eat some fried fish. We arrived around 5:30p on a Friday and our group of six was seated right away. All of us ordered the fish fry. Appreciate that it comes with soup or salad along with your choice of side. The portions were large and the food was tasty. Make sure to check in on Yelp and get your free fried ice cream. I don't think many people do that because our server had to check with her manager to see if they could honor the coupon. They did and the fried ice cream was a cool experience. read more

A classic Wisconsin Pub- which is exactly what we were looking for. A great pit stop on our way home. They did have a pretty crowded restaurant since it was lunch time, but the service was quick and welcoming. The menu is a good size with options for everyone. We started with their queso blanco and salsa. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger- which came with soup and a side. I had the chicken and dumpling soup and the classic Mac and cheese- both were great! The burger was cooked correctly and had a great flavor. I forgot to snap some photos, so you'll have to take my word for it! Highly disappointing experience. First, we attempted to order ribeye, which we had specifically come for, but found out it's no longer on the menu. Wish this would have been updated to accurately reflect on the website and the in-house menu. Tried the NY strip instead and it was not a good piece of meat and was also cooked well done when I ordered medium. They did take it back, but by the time I received my new steak the rest of my party was pretty much done eating which does not make for an enjoyable dining experience. The second steak, though cooked accurately, was still a poor quality meat. I understand that things happen, however, I always appreciate when mistakes are addressed. Omg, this place is such a gem! We have been missing that pre-pandemic, restaurant feel. Great burger tonight, and drinks! We've been here many times and it's a very solid choice! Breakfast is really good too!

Super busy, but seated quickly. The interior is nice, pub like, as you'd expect. Good breakfast selections with a tex-mex flair. Chicken Fried Steak was not homemade and had a stale/freezer taste. Hashbrowns were actually cold in the middle. Pancakes were good and had generous fillings like blueberries and chocolate chips. I might try again, but probably not. After receiving our drinks for 6 people rather quickly our food came out in a timely manner with just one problem------every meal was COLD! After a few bites we waited for our server to tell her. She finally came around and basically said nothing. We asked for to go boxes and to speak with the manager. He came around only to tell there is nothing he could do because we had eaten some of it. This place was a really good option for lunch and I'd definitely go back. We went in and I was starving which is not always a great combo for me with new restaurants but the place really did a great job especially our waitress who was incredibly nice. Each of the four of us got different things and all of the food was great - tacos, naked burrito, enormous salad with grilled chicken - all of it was great. I remember completely devouring the rice and beans and the chips on the table too. For soda they have Pepsi as a side note but I think most places around Wisconsin do. I had Lucky Star booked for a while and when I went to IRM I would stop for breakfast because the menu looked pretty decent. Before I could get there Aubrey G. checked in twice so I had to ask him what brought him there twice and he said the food was good so that's good enough for me and today's breakfast spot. The place was chain looking with all the with all the kitsch everywhere but I don't think it's a chain. It's a little worn looking in a good way but clean. The menu was full of great options so I was go for more than a simple breakfast and once again the country fried steak was frozen so I went back to the basic, ham and eggs to play it fresh/safe from the menu with my 2nd toast favorite toast, Texas. I didn't experience any service issues and the food came with in a reasonable amount of time. The ham and eggs came with 3 eggs, ham off the bone, hash browns and Texas toast. The eggs were perfect sunny side up. The Texas toast was thick/soft and buttery. The hash browns were just average taste wise. The ham off the bone was a thin commercial perfect slice that was not over cooked and fork tender/moist. Overall I had a nice breakfast to start my journey into Illinois for a nerdy day trip thing. read more

Hungry as could be while driving through Burlington on Sunday, 3/25/2018 at about 1:00 PM, we relied on our Yelp app to find a place to eat and were directed to a highly rated restaurant for lunch: *Lucky Star. Once again, Yelp didn't disappoint. (Perhaps, we were the *lucky ones). This was one of those occasions where everything goes right. Though busy, we were seated in a booth almost immediately by a smiling, friendly hostess, and handed menus. Before we could even open them, our server, Michelle, greeted us warmly, put a basket of tortilla chips and salsa on the table, and asked us if she could get us a drink while we were checking out the menu. The menu has a large amount of choices, including an expansive Mexican selection, half pound burgers, a variety of sandwiches, many of the items listed with a custom touch, particular to Lucky Star's "fixin's." I fixated on the sandwich menu item called "Kickin Chicken" and ordered it. The sandwich is made on a ciabatta roll and has your choice of fried or grilled chicken breast. I opted for grilled. It is loaded with guacamole, bacon, tomato, cheese and a really good dressing. It is a messy, gooey, gastronomical delight that, basically, blew me away. This sandwich was definitely in my top ten list of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten in a restaurant. (See my picture). Cheryl's eye caught the quesadilla appetizer. It comes with three flour sized tortillas stuffed with cheese. She opted to order, for an additional charge, the "Chicken Tinga" which our server, Michelle, recommended. Like myself, Cheryl thought the quesadilla she ordered was great; especially the pulled chicken in it which she thought was the bomb! Though called an appetizer, a meal could be made of the plate, which was accompanied by sour cream, shredded lettuce and chopped tomato. Sandwiches/meals/full orders come with both soup and a side of fries. There were four (4) choices of soup. Four! I opted for the vegetable soup which was equally outstanding and the soup was served in a large bowl, not one of those rinky-dink tiny cups so many other restaurants serve their "side" soups in. (See my picture). As we were finishing our meal, I checked into Lucky Star on the Yelp app. When I did, up popped a Lucky Star "Yelp Deal:" A free "Fried Ice Cream." We asked what it was and, although just stuffed, decided to go for it. Well, it was friggin' outstanding. Neither of us had ever had it before and it was really terrific. A big ball of vanilla ice cream coated with a crispy coating, sitting in a plate-sized fried and crispy (possible) tortilla that tasted like a churro, topped with honey, cinnamon, whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate (see my picture). To top off our perfect meal, we had a perfect server: Michelle. She was so nice, funny, efficient, patient and helpful; I really thought maybe she was the owner? I even asked her. (She just laughed at me). We made sure to tell her what we thought. To the owners at Lucky Star: Michelle is one incredible asset in your restaurant. She should be not only be a role model and trainer for all of your staff, but for all servers everywhere! The parking lot is large and you'll never have a problem finding a space to park. Summing it up, we loved our first experience at Lucky Star and can't wait to go back. (I wish it was in our neighborhood). read more

The parking lot was crowded at 1 PM on a Sunday. That was a good sign. 5 minute wait let me peruse the t-shirt selection. "Feed me tacos and tell me I'm pretty!" Or something like that. Lots of Mexican dishes on tables as we were seated, but i had my heart set on a BLT. The turkey BLT hit the spot. A basket of chips and a cup of creamy chicken tortilla soup just about had me asking them to box my sandwich to go but i ate half there anyway. It was all good and well-priced. So the order was placed, i got a cup of coffee that had DRIED COFFEE on INSIDE OF CUP half way down and to the bottom ( FILTHY!! ) as if it sat in a bus tub! Next for further pleasure of the pallet was when i received my soup and it arrived with the remnants of a dried out noodle on the spoon. So, they brought me a clean spoon not for one ( 1 ) minute realizing they contaminated my flippin soup!! If my dining experience couldn't get worse, it DID!! I first had the pleasure of cutting into my bone in ham with yet Another dirty utinsel and then to my disgust i cut open my Over MEDIUM eggs to find that they are over EASY (SLIMY ); I Sent them back asking for them to cook my eggs over MEDIUM!! MY eggs came back over HARD!! When I didn't eat them, the server or possibly shift ?supervisor? came and asked if the eggs were alright.: Clearly i hadnt eaten them so they were NOT good!! At this point she asked me "What woukd YOU consider an over Medium cooked egg. So, my toast is cold, my utinsils dirty, twice my eggs are cooked improperly and mow I SHOULD GIVE Egg Cooking Instructions? Wth??? I was hungry and my breakfast was garbage and for my poor dining experience and lost time, i was comped????? My breakfast plate, but charged for the dirty coffee, the dirty soup/utilsels, the cold toast and i left hungry !!!! Going in I was expecting country burger/bar/grill style place. Boy, was I surprised. We started at the bar with a watermelon vodkarita. The bartender was super nice. It was happy hour all day. The drink was refreshing after a hot day in the sun. We were seated after within 10 minutes. Our waiter was great with the recommendations. I ordered the carne asada a la tampiquena. It was a boatload of food with skirt steak, enchilada, grilled Green onions, grilled banana pepper and beans/rice. The dish was super delicious. I requested medium and that was how my steak was cooked. The enchiladas sauce was three cheese and served poblano style. I found the rice and beans quit tasty.
