We went there for the 1st time on Easter Sunday. We saw a great review and thought we'd try it…read more The location was nice, it's a storefront in a strip mall that had about 3-4 tables and some counter seats at the window. Their menu was quite limited. This is a place that you order and pay at the counter and sit down and eat. We ordered a Taco combo, Burrito combo and an order of chips and salsa. First issue I had was that they only had plasticware to eat with. The food itself came out on beautiful square (heavy) plates with a nice presentation.....but we had plastic forks to use. My husband's burrito couldn't be cut with a plastic knife and he broke his plastic fork in the burrito. Since we got it with salsa and cheese on top, it wasn't an item to pick up and eat with your hands. It was a bit confusing as they served it on such nice plates. We asked for a real knife and fork so he could eat his meal and they gave him a paring knife and a spoon. The girl was lovely and apologized explaining that was all they had. So he was trying to eat his burrito with a spoon.... The chips were extremely greasy and chewy. Not stale but like they weren't cooked long enough. The "mild" salsa was VERY HOT. Like burn your face hot. I ordered the 3 taco dinner 2 steak and 1 al pastor so that I could try both. The pork was just ok. Nothing special but the steak.... My husband asked what was wrong as my face must have shown my disappointment. The seasoning on that tasted just like an Old El Paso seasoning. No offense to Old El Paso as I use it every week to make my "American Tacos"....but on STEAK??? AT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT?????? The rice had no flavor and the beans were fine...a little bland but not horrible. My issue was that neither the rice nor beans were hot. They were barely room temperature as my husband also said with his. They put a sprinkle of cheese on our beans and his burrito and it never melted because none of our food was hot enough to melt it. If that all wasn't bad enough, you are suppose to scrape your plate and put your plates and trays on top of the trash bins. When we did that, the STENCH coming from the trash made my husband gag! We were there at 11:35am. Unless they left garbage from the night before or never clean it, that should NOT have been that bad! Overall, there is nothing that would ever make me go back and give them another try- not even a free meal or 2....and that's bad! Avoid if possible....

From their chilaquiles, tacos, Gordita's, etc, to their Molcajate, pozole, menudo, etc, their selections have a quality take. Their food is quite tasty and fresh. In addition, the servers are highly welcoming and attentive to your wants; they will even accommodate some add-ons to specific dishes (I got lettuce, chopped onions and radishes added on to my chilaquiles). I highly recommend this place.

Yelp pointed us here, as it's a popular spot and I would have to say that we really enjoyed our meals. We got a variety of tacos - barbacoa, picadillo, asada, and carnitas. The ham and cheese quesadilla was really tasty. The carne asada plate was also excellent. I ate all of the chips and they offer five (5) types of sauce!! We also got a steak burrito to go and looking back on this afternoon, we would definitely come back to eat at this authentic restaurant. I say authentic because I think we were the only non-Mexicans in this restaurant, although I do identify as Mexican, so I felt right at home. I randomly wore a Manny Pacquiao Nike shirt today, which caught some attention, but it was all good....

The menu features lots of excellent Mexican cuisine choices including quesadillas, birria/ chorizo/ or steak tacos, Mexican breakfast options, and a small kids menu. During our first experience here, my husband ordered the steak taco plate which included 3 tacos, rice and beans. He also ordered the birria ramen. I, myself, ordered the birria taco plate which included 3 birria tacos, the consume, rice, and beans. We thought everything tasted very good! Beverages include: Different Mexican beverages such as Jarritos, Mex Coke, Horchata etc. Once could also canned soda, coffee, or juice. Their horchata was delicious-not overly sweet or watery at all. As far as alcoholic beverages, they have those, too! Paloma's, margaritas, and I was informed that they will soon have a mocktail menu. Service: Excellent. My husband and I dined-in on a very busy Sunday and there was no where to sit except a high counter-top area. We placed our order and were offered a table as soon as one became available. While eating, we were asked at least 3-4x if everything was okay or if we needed anything by various staff members. Prior to leaving, it started pouring rain outside. My husband paid our bill then went to pull our car closer to the door. While he was doing that, one of the employees by the name of Lupe grabbed an umbrella and walked me to the car when he pulled up (it's summertime and I was in summer attire including sandals). When I ordered carry out and sent my husband to pick up, I only wanted rice and beans. For some reason, he did not check the bag before leaving. He ended up coming home with some else's entire order which had no beans or rice. The restaurant was set to close in 15 mins, thus I did not bother to call about it. Value: $10-$20 on average for a meal and regular beverage. Great value for the portion sizes. Ambiance: Nice ambiance, yet very small restaurant with a bar area. Few tables outside for outdoor seating. Location: 2343 Mead St, Mt. Pleasant, WI, 53403 Phone: 262-456-0154 *Parking is all street parking and not the greatest when the place is busy. Check Google for business hours before going as it seems to change often. Cons in my opinion: * Because the restaurant is so small, I didn't like that large families were dining in and being *dining squatters* by taking up a few tables and conversing with one another for a long time, which took up a lot of space for a lot time. *dining squatter- someone that dines at a place, taking their sweet time eating, and lounging around after eating. * this business also owns a food truck, so it seems that their restaurant hours of operation change quite often depending on when they will take their food truck out.

We run into different people and we always end up talking to them and having a good time. Everything made here is made by Maria. Something people need to remember, Mexico has many regions, each region makes their food different. Maria's food is authentic. Everything is made per order from scratch. Start with the guac, it takes time to make it, but it is worth it. Tues is Taco Tuesday, 3 for $7 tacos, hard shell, made from scratch, soft corn or flour. Wed is wings, 10 for $11, Friday is fish fry, I don't remember the price, but believe me it is very reasonable. I tried the fish tacos, they were very good too. It was recommended by a couple of friends to try the shrimp tacos' and I have yet to try them. The beans and rice are fantastic and you get a good amount. It is a corner bar and your food gets served on regular plates which impressed me. So many places have gone to the metal trays or even paper plates. I have included some of the pictures of what we have had here. There is a full menu and I need to explore more on the menu. Today I tried the hard shell tacos and they did not disappoint. My husband had flour. They come American style unless you ask for Mexican style. We have had the fish fry, it is great. Get to know Maria, she is great. She periodically makes tamales. Watch her facebook page, most times she will post when she gets done making them. They are labor intensive, she starts early and gets done at 3:30 - 4:00. She makes pork or chicken tamales.

There was a pool table at one end slot machine and a pull-tab machine at the other end of the bar. I would stop in again. I took off 1 star because the joint is CASH ONLY!
