After reading the reviews, we wanted to give this place a try. The restaurant is split into two rooms, with the second room being the one that we ate in. The walls in the second room are lime green with brown bricks taking up the bottom half of the walls. Papel picado hangs from the ceiling while sombreros of varying sizes and portraits adorn the walls. A TV plays in the upper corner of the back wall and trophies sit on shelves next to it. Hubs ordered the Mariscos En Chipotle, which has tilapia fillet, clams, shrimp, mussels, calamari in their special chipotle sauce. Hubs loved this entree and thought that the seafood was a bit overcooked. He said that it could use a few minutes less on the saute pan. Daughter ordered Huevos Con Chorizo-, which are eggs with Mexican sausage. I forgot to take the picture. She thought it was ok, but it tasted good as usual but there's nothing to write home about. Lastly, I had the Bistec a la Mexicana, which are tender steak strips sautéed with onions, tomato and jalapeño peppers. There were avocados hidden underneath the meat and daughter was stealing them. LOL. I liked it and thought that the meat was a little tough but it was ok. I also had the Horchata and thought it was ok but it was watery. Our meal came with chips and beans and it was pretty good. We used to come here occasionally, but this time we were extremely disappointed. The restaurant was so dirty. 60% of the tables needed to be cleaned, the floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks, and there was a cockroach in the bathroom, which we didn't use until we were about to leave. It was tough to stay, but we were so hungry, it was time to get the kids to bed, and we'd been stuck at our kids school, we should've left. Our order was wrong, even though we speak Spanish and we were overcharged. They fixed it, but, I mean, come on. The food was...fine, but how can you get past the rest, you know? It's not fancy but who needs that when the food is really good and reasonably priced. The owner is always there over seeing everything and is delightful to talk to. We started off with homemade guacamole and chips, very delicious. By recommendation we tried their famous tacos. Chicken and the el pastor. Incredible flavors with both tacos. TL;DR - solid folks run a really good Mexican restaurant in Keyport. You can't go wrong with anything you order, dump red and green sauce on all of it. Looking for a place where you can get ridiculously good tacos, flautas, or fajitas? How about a spot that has such good rice and beans that you can them that as a main and be happy? You found it. We were in need of Mexican food, as one is from time to time, but didn't want to head to the wrong side of the Raritan River (read; North Jersey). We..OK, I was looking for a place that had a bar as well, but spoiler alert, liquor licenses in Jersey are incredibly expensive and limited in quantity. The only place that had a bar was far too close to the aforementioned hell hole that is North Jersey for comfort. In the end, this was a good thing, as we found the perfect local joint that turned out to be BOYB. win-win. Walking into this unassuming spot, you'll find a takeout counter and a few smaller tables. There's also a door that leads to the next storefront which their main dining room occupies (It also has a front door, but don't go in it as the folks who will seat you are on the other side). You'll also notice that the walls are super green, but whatever the food is good so who cares. Once seated the menu is pretty standard - go with the Fajitas if you're hungry, they are pretty much the best thing on the menu unless you want crunch, then order flautas (which are also very very good). The tacos are also on point, and one as an appetizer is absolutely encouraged as well. The road is Mexican (read; really really sweet), so go with the horchata (homemade) if you didn't BYOB*. Oh, and last but definitely not least - put the red and green sauce on EVERYTHING. it's so good, that you'll be asking for more before you know it. As a bonus, the folks who run the place are incredibly nice, and I love when local businesses have charm and flavor that you just don't find in corporate restaurants. If for no other reason, come here to support a local business (though the incredible food is a good reason to come too, just saying). ___________ *Definitely BOYB though, as a little red wine takes this food to the next level. read more

Great meal! We ordered dinner from Rico Taco II.. this location is nothing like the Perth Amboy location and even after they called to confirm our order almost two hours later we had no food.. this is the second time, they just don't deliver if they get busy but never tell you they are canceling your order.. annoying! But, we are thankful because it led us to Los Corrales! What a great meal! They were accommodating to our low carb requests which we appreciate! We had guacamole which was fresh and delish, carnitas on a salad with avocado, lettuce, tomato sour cream and lime. Great carnitas!! Also tried their Posole which had a nice heat and was plentiful with chicken and homeny (which sadly I can't eat, so will have to ask them for just broth and chicken next time) it was delish with a little lime! Can't wait to go back here. Fresh homemade chips, salsas with depthless to it that is difficult to describe. Heart and soul went into our food, we waited a bit as everything was made to order. There are two sides to this restaurant, seating area that is friendly for to-go orders and another side meant for dining in. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Everything was wonderful. I have an MSG allergy, and avoid any, she brought us a second serving of guacamole to replace possible consumption from the rice. How nice was that?!? :) Happy camper. read more

Ordered two tacos al pastor, one kids carne asada and two cokes. This place was touted as authentic so on our way home we stopped by to eat. It was a bad omen when there were a bunch of gringos eating here, but against my better judgement we sat down. The waitress was nice. In my daughters words, the only good things were the free chips and the coke. The beans were mushy and lacked any seasoning. The rice was overcooked. The meat was dry. On to my tacos al pastor, usually tacos are served with double soft tortillas but these were single tortillas which were crispy(?). The meat was not seasoned right, and it didn't seemed like the pineapple was cooked with the meat but rather as an afterthought. Tacos as Pastor are my favorite because the sweetness/tart of the pineapple goes perfectly with the meat but these missed the mark. I didn't even finish them :(. To add insult to injury the menu isn't up to date on prices. Apparently the cokes are $2.50 each in addition to a mystery .66 charge the waitress couldn't explain besides " we have increased our prices". It's not the .66 cents, it's that charges can't be explained. I have included a pic of the bill. Two tacos are $ 2.50 each and kids meal is $5, add $5 for two coke and total is $15. There are better Mexican places to eat in New Brunswick, so I will stay local next time. read more

It is a corner restaurant and when you walk in it doesnt look that big. Its across the street from the 7-11. The lighting is good. There are see through plastic table covers on each table. When the food came each of us ordered a burrito. As you can see one of the burritos was dipped in the green sauce. Mine was chicken and they did a great job. Beware as your eyes are going to be bigger than your stomach and be prepared to take some home. Wait staff was very good. TV plays in the background with the Spanish channel that is on but not too much. Pricing very reasonable for 2 with each of us having sodas as well $25. There are vegetable options on the menu. Area for improvement. A little addition of salt before bringing to the customer wouldn't hurt. All in all, you won't be disappointed. The positive far outweigh the negative. read more

I tried this place out because it had good reviews. Parking was a little confusing so i parked on the street a half block away. They have a tiny dining room and then on the side a bigger dining room. They give complimentary chips w green and red salsa. The salsa were more like sauce and it was blended to a consistency of water. The green was good w a hint of spicy z. The red wasn't the best. I had an Al pastor burrito which came w rice and beans for $10. The food was more than enough and very authentic. The service was so so. It was seriously the best my hubby and I have ever had (and I've been to Mexico 4 times and the southwestern states many times). I do not provide a 1-star critique lightly.... and I'm rather easily pleased! :-) But this experience was really bad. Coming back from a beach stroll at Keansburg, I decided against going to Travelling Tortilla near the waterpark and opted for this restaurant instead, given the various glowing reviews; one even mentioned a 5-min turnaround time. We came in on a Sunday evening (wondering if it's perhaps the worst time to visit restaurants due to the expected low level of resources?). The place was manned by only 2 people (a waitress and a cook), and there's only us in the restaurant. There were 4-5 tables that still had plates and drinks on them -- bad omen. Lights were very dim, honestly it was really difficult to read the menu -- my kid even pulled out his phone and used the flashlight! No, there's no candles, etc. on the table (it's not a "romantic" dim, it's a switch-off-that-neon-light-and-save-some-money dim). Service was almost non-existent. The six of us split into 2 tables. Orders were taken 15 minutes after we sat down, and we only ordered light fare (1 taco here, 1 quesadilla there, 2 tacos there and one carnitas) but the food arrived literally 45 minutes after, I kid you not (the chips arrived 1/2 hr after, and only for one table so I had to split the chips with the other table). Why didn't we ask the waitress for these missing items, you ask? (more chips, more light, more water, etc.)? We did, but any request didn't get fulfilled until 10 minutes later. The waitress and cook were flying all over the place handling dirty dishes and cooking. I even wondered out loud, did they cook something incorrect and had to start over? (it shouldn't take that long at all to cook these standard Mexican fares, especially as we were the only customers during most of our time there). Even the food was originally served without any utensils and I had to ask for them. Foodwise.... The beans were microwaved. I ordered horchata and the jar was empty, so the waitress refill the horchata from a KLASS sachet for a $2 per glass watery glucose drink that I could've bought from any supermarket. The carnitas were dry. The tacos were okay, but honestly the meat was a bit undercooked, oily (it dripped a lot), and chunky (some tendons were included and needed to be discarded), perhaps given the speed of cooking/re-cooking that needed to be done? I love hole-in-the-wall restaurants as they often promise a homemade, down-to-earth taste that's often lost in larger restaurants. But, sorry, this one feels like a hole straight down to hell. Unfortunate, since I was really hoping for a good find. Perhaps I've been spoiled by the food and service at Mexican restaurants in New Brunswick? :-) read more

I just got back from Mexico. At least that's how it feels after dining at Los Corrales. This is by far the most authentic Mexican food I have ever tasted in NJ. The place is simple and plain. What some may call a hole in the wall, but the warmth of Mexico was felt in their food and friendliness of the waitress. My wife and I found this place on Yelp and based on the good reviews we decided to venture over to Hazlet and check it out for ourselves. I am so glad we did. We started with Flautas as an appetizer. From the first bite, we knew that we had found a piece of Mexico right near Marlboro. My wife had a chicken chimichanga and I had the chicken mole. I ate everything on my plate and begged for some red hot sauce to take home. My wife rarely asks for a doggy bag, but did so tonight. I can go on and on about this place. Next time you have a craving for "REAL" Mexican food, walk, no run to Los Corrales. read more

It is rare that I rate any place more than 3 stars only after one visit, but the food was really good. Bistec con camorances (no clue if I spelled that correctly) - really good. They even gave enough tortillas for the dish. Free chip and salsa - pretty good. Flavor soda - good. There is a lack of Mexican restaurants (even fake ones like Taco Bell) in the area, so maybe hunger was the best pickle. I definitely will come back, and hope this becomes one of my go to places. The place is actually is kind of deceptive in that it looks like a regular home. Street parking, although you probably could park in the parking lot of the dental office next door. The front door is around the corner. It does have an eating area. The interior decor is kind of dated, but the cooking area looks really clean. Service was ok. read more
