The food is amazing! Freshly made, with solid authenticity and flavors. The service could be better, staff may be short of staff since you may not even think anyone works there. The staff works in the kitchen and occasionally is seen near the counter. You may have to walk up if something is needed. There are booth style tables and high top with chairs to choose from. You could BYOS (bring your own supplies) (napkins/toilet paper/hand-soap). The bathroom isn't the most clean, it's for customers only and only one person at a time. We went during the July 4th weekend and when we entered the restaurant there was no staff member to be found. I learned that the cook was running it by herself which wiped my impatience out the window. The wait was definitely worth it. The food was amazing and she was also sweet even under the pressure of attending 3 tables. The horchata was also delicious. The nachos were freshly made. Small restaurant. It was empty when we arrived. If you go in, view the menu from the website. We tried the beef tacos in corn tortillas with lettuce, tomato and avocado (those were all the toppings). Authentic Mexican dishes! We tried tacos, sandwiches, empanadas, and more. Try their sandwiches, nothing here tasted like the other dishes I was trying, despite using the same basic ingredients. I appreciated the distinction between all my dishes I ordered and I absolutely stuffed my face! The red hot sauce is HOT. The ingredients were used perfectly to highlight the flavor profiles you would be seeking if you want to feel like you are sitting in a Mexican cantina. Their rice and beans were probably the best I have had under Mexican specialty, obviously don't expect Cuban or Puerto Rican recipes, you will not find that kind of rice. This is the lightly seasoned, orange rice paired with black beans. No extra frill but done well! Ate here once when we stayed in the area for a long weekend. It was pretty quiet in here when we arrived, only 1 or 2 other customers. Place seemed authentic though and reasonably priced. The chips and guac were legit, I liked how they made their own chips. The waitress recommended we try them. I think it was the best part of the meal. The tacos were decent, at first. Tried several different meats and shrimp tacos. We got them topped with everything. I did feel a bit queasy later and I have a pretty strong stomach, which is why only 3 stars. Tasted good when I was eating them, but not sure I would risk going back. If it weren't for that, I was going to go back the next night to try the pumpkin flower quesadilla...I love squash blossoms! Took the kids, we love the food in the Perth Amboy location so figured we would try their 'restaurant' its more a cafe with just a few tables but super authentic food. Tacos, grilled chicken, burritos, enchiladas, homemade chips, salsa and guac, great smoothies..try the tamarind sticks for a spicy and sweet treat. I'm from out of town but this place was impressively good for it's unassuming storefront. You get delicious food at a great value. I tried the carnitas quesadilla, chicken and potato empanada, and mango smoothie (with water). Chalupas, and a burrito without lettuce...that's what we ordered. A chalupa is a fried shell tortilla not a soggy one. The employee told us multiple time when we politely asked about our order "this isn't Taco Bell" in all honestly we'd have been better off ordering Taco Bell than this "authentic " Mexican cuisine. My wife and I frequent the Perth Amboy location. The food there is terrific! When we heard another location was opening, we had to check it out. The quality is the same. If you are into tacos, this is your heaven. I highly recommend trying the shrimp tacos. All of the ingredients are fresh and the prices are really reasonable. Driving through the Burg and came across this place.. I absolutely love real Mexican food (not taco bell).... I only ordered two tacos: chicken and steak.
