Was visiting Houston for the day with my Son and Husband. Ate here with an old friend that lives in Katy on our way back to San Antonio. Were were a party of 5 and we were sat at a table right away. (No wait a plus) on a Friday night in busy Katy at 6ish (dinner time) First time being here I was not sure what to order my friend having eaten here many times said pretty much everything on the menu is good. I ordered their enchiladas ,one with shrimp and one with chicken stuffing. The shrimp one was pretty good and chicken was a bit dried out for my taste. My husband ordered a taco with their stuffed fried avocado. He said the it was not that great for the money you pay. My Son ordered their sizzling platter for one. Which came with an assortment of meats and the normal sides. The plate was suppose to come out sizzling and DID NOT! We saw other tables with the same order and the plates came out sizzling and smoking. Our meals were warm not hot! Our waiter was not attentive and did not come check on us much or fill our water glasses. We had to flag down other waiters to get our water refilled. I ordered a glass a wine and requested a glass of ice on the side. I had to ask him twice for it because it seemed as if he forgot. I've always wanted to try this establishment since they seem to have quite a few spread throughout Houston and Greater-Houston. My husband and I went to Los Cucos for Valentine's Day yesterday. I must say I was impressed upon entry. Extremely clean fast service and although they were very busy wait time was about 15/20 minutes to be seated. Not bad for a very busy and packed to capacity restaurant. This was our first time inside this restaurant every time we pass by on regular business days it's always busy. So today we thought we'd try it out. The waiter was ok. He wasn't very talkative though. Our food was (in the words of Roger from The American dad) *These choladiles these choladiles omg Francine these choladiles* lol Delicious. My husband ordered this dish that had steak and chicken and cheese stuffed enchiladas. I ordered steak, fajitas & shrimp sautéed with bell pepper, sweet tomatoes, onions and it was amazing. The green dipping sauce for the tortilla chips was great We loved it. They had live music and a cartoonist drawing pictures at the entrance. We had a pretty awesome time. We will be back soon. Seems like he didn't want to be there. The chips were not fresh they had a stale crunch. I politely asked for fresh chips and they told me in a stern voice that they were fresh.. I asked the waiter to try one.. His response was "Wow they really are stale!" He apologized spoke in Spanish to another waiter and we never received any more chips. When Our drink orders arrived I was in the restroom. When I came out there was a huge cockroach on the floor. The waiter came over after I told him and promptly removed it. I don't know.. I just didn't feel the love today. The food looked beautiful but didn't even taste the same it was a bit bland and in need of seasoning. Maybe because the weather is dreary out side and raining on and off they decided to not really put any effort into the food and cleanliness preparations. We went to Los Cucos for my mother-in-law's birthday. I think they've been to every Los Cucos in the greater Houston area, but that's beside the point. This one is close to the house and after a long day of moving and painting, my mother-in-law wanted a margarita, dangit! The food is pretty tasty. I don't think we've been to a Los Cucos that caused us to turn up our noses. Unfortunately, they were out of green salsa for what seemed like the entire time we were dining there. I mean, it really was for the entire time we were dining there. And that was a long time to go without any green salsa. My husband and I decided to split a margarita. It wasn't until we got the bill that we saw the price. $15?!?! You're kidding, right? This is no upscale Mexican restaurant, so paying $15 for ONE average-tasting margarita is unacceptable. We won't be back on principle alone, but for those of you who want to try Los Cucos, I recommend the fajitas! read more

Ate dinner there tonight with my boyfriend we ordered the fajita platter with chicken, beef, and shrimp. You can't go wrong with the fajitas but they were a joke. The portion size was very small. There were like three or four pieces of chicken and beef and the shrimp were the size of nickels. I mean they were sooooo small it was ridicules. And just a table over a guy got shrimp cocktail and they were huge. Even the pictures of the fajita platter looked better in the menu. Talk about false advertisement! Food: Party ordered enchiladas, fajitas, fish tacos. Beginning with the initial chips and salsa, we discovered that they were a bit old and stale. When they had been freshly heated, you could tell yourself they were fresh, but within 30 seconds of arriving at the table they began to cool off and you could taste that mealy-chewy staleness. The enchilada tortilla suffered from a similar failure for freshness. The filling and tomatillo sauce were, on the other hand, ok. The fajitas were generally flavorless and under seasoned. While the meat had an inherent okay flavor, it wasn't as tender as good steak can be. The other materials were neither exceptional nor awful. The fish tacos just weren't very good. They had a mayonnaise-sweetness that just wasn't enjoyable. Service: mediocre. It had bright and down moments. Again, nothing memorable. Overall, just south of forgettable. We will not be planning to return. There are too many other Tex-Mex restaurants in the area and region to bother coming back. I would like to take a moment to mention weekend brunch. The food there, buffet style, is actually fresher tasting than the ostensibly made to order dinner. I actually enjoy the brunch, and might have awarded 4 stars for it, had I thought to review it - now, I can't tell if I'm just remembering it as better than it was. read more

Looking for a place to have Brunch? Look no further and try out Los Cucos! The very first time we went it was packed with a wait time of 30 to 45 minutes so make sure you arrive early. We arrived today at 10:30 and the service was quick and our waiter was very friendly. The brunch had great options ranging from: enchiladas, gorditas, tamales, huevos con chorizo, waffles, pancakes, pan dulce, fresh fruit, nopales, potatoes, mole, atole, arroz con leche, arroz, frijoles, aguas frescas, omelettes, and so much more! I haven't eaten Mexican in quite some time and I used to be a huge fan of Cucos. I stopped in yesterday with my restaurant frequenteer partner and I was ever so pleased! Let's start with service. We had a nice server but he wasn't very attentive, we had to remind and repeat often. However he was kind. I think because we came in after the lunch rush he was ready to get out, understandable. Food, although our server was ready to go the food came out beautifully set up and deliciously fresh! I got the Pollock Pablano; I highly recommend this dish. First of all the chicken breast was huge, close to a pound, I'm an eyeball estimater. The breast was also butterflied for easier access and they were not skimpy on the sauce! My friend ordered the beef stuffed avacado and it was graciously stuffed with fajita beef and cheese! We also ordered the queso flameado; beef! I highly recommend all of these dishes! The Margaritas are freshly made to order, if frozen; you can hear the blender! The rocks are premade but I don't think it makes a difference, they get the job done! I didn't sample any tea; sorry yelpers. I'm giving it a 4 because of the service, it's understandable yes, but I served for 12 years! Ex servers are a lot more kind than individuals whom have never served, so with that said, smile and know you will eventually go home! Tex-Mex eateries of every price points are at every street corner of greater Houston area. Sadly, Los Cucos did not measure well to most of the competitors. The Mrs and I decided to fortify ourself at this Tex-Mex before a long day of shopping. She ordered the beef fajita quesadilla and I got the ground beef chimichanga. The beef fajita was too dry and lacking fajita seasonings . The chimichanga was ok, but the refried beans was too dry. The best taste were the green and red salsas that came with the free tortilla chips. One star for the excellent table service and one star for the salsas. No return visit is planned. read more

The service was beyond disappointing, and food was abysmal. Our waiter took 20 minutes before someone else came and felt pity to get us drinks. Despite me pointing to my selection and reviewing with our waiter Eduardo I believe his name was, my order came out completely wrong. When I said so he tried to turn it around on me like I was in the wrong. I sent it back and cancelled my order after seeing my families food come out. We had to again ask another server for utensils. My sons cheese enchilada was a tortilla with queso on it and the beans were from a can based on taste and appearance. Wish we could give zero stars. We will never return. read more

On Saturday May 15th 2021 my wife and I went out to dinner for a date night and to celebrate my wife's promotion.  We don't get to have dinner the two of us that often since we normally go to dinner with our 12 year old son.  I also find it easier to cook at home than go out for meals.  The experience we had at the Katy Mills location emphasized why I don't enjoy dining out at restaurants.    As I enjoy cooking, I can prepare many items yet there are some which are better at restaurants.  Los Cucos makes a Seafood Vapor which I know I could make yet wanted to refresh my memory of all the ingredients.  My wife was excited about getting it as it would remind her of dining out with her deceased parents at the location on Westheimer while they were alive. Upon entering the location we were greeted friendly by hostess who found us a seat on the patio.  That was the end of the positive experience at Los Cucos. We sat at our table for at least 10 minutes waiting to not only be acknowledged by a server yet also to have chips and salsa brought to the table.  We were hungry so I was excited about the chips since this was also a treat due the fact we are trying to lose weight.  The female server came to the table and right from the start I knew it was not going to be a great visit.  She was not pleasant nor interested in providing a guest first experience.  I described the Seafood Vapor dish upon she replied it was not listed on that menu yet on the full menu.  This was fine as I understand you want to put the top selling items on the paper menu not the full menu.  The server said she would get us a full menu and return.  I thought this was an easy task yet since the time frame was extensive, she must have had find a menu on the computer, print the complete menu, find something to put the menu in, place the menu in the sleeves, and than bring us the menu.   As we ordered waters, the server must not have like that either.  I was surprised to find a lemon in our waters since many restaurants are not placing lemon in waters due to Covid contamination.  She also did bring us chips finally.  After she DROPPED the menu at the table, she scurried off like a roach avoiding the light.  Upon inspection of the menu, I located the Seafood Vapor.  It came with shrimp which we can not eat.  I mentioned to the server if they could be taken off and what the new charge would be.  The server did not have the desire to see how this could be modified with the new cost.  She mentioned it would be the same cost.  As I have managed many restaurants as well as being very familiar with food distribution companies, I know shrimp is a high food cost item.  On your menu, if a patron wishes to add 3 shrimp to their fajitas there is an additional charge.  I wished to remove them from the dish thus would expect a savings. There again, the server did not want to assist us so I requested a visit from the manager.  The manager might not have had his position long or understand the food cost since he did not really want to discount the item much.  He offered to discount it $3.00 which I considered to be a slap in the face since if I wanted to add shrimp it would be $6. My wife did not think the measly decrease was justified so accepted the fact the dish, which would remind her of her deceased parents, was not going to be something she would consume in their memory.  We settled on the fajitas hoping her parents would not be upset she ordered something else instead of their favorite meal. Had the server returned in a timely manner, we would have dined there.  This did not happen.  The server again failed to return to our table in a timely manner.  After being frustrated at the experience up to this point, we decided to leave.  The server did not take our order, provide in any way a positive experience, and the lack of her attentiveness lead me to believe the best option was to leave. When we left, there was a person at the exit thanking us for coming.  I responded to her, we were leaving due the the manager and server.  She had the opportunity to hear our frustration yet she did not express any concern either. We did go out for dinner after leaving Los Cucos.  We dined at Lupe Tortilla. Shortly upon seating there was a person at our table bringing us chips and salsas.  The server arrived quickly later and worked to insure our fajita meal was something we could enjoy.  I mentioned to the server we can't eat pork and could not have dairy with the fajitas.  The server promptly removed the beans from the table brought with the tortilla chips since they were made with either lard or bacon to be replaced with another salsa.  He also worked to substitute the beans with the fajitas for some fries along with bringing us extra lettuce for the fajitas for the cheese.  I tried to discuss our visit with Los Cucos and they did not care about guest experiences. Would not recommend this restaurant and will tell people they are not worth going. read more

The food here is just so good. I love their chips and salsa verde. I didn't remember, but after having the Chicken Fajita A La Cucos for two with my cousin, I realized the food at Los Cucos is very buttery. Just in general. Other than that, I am, indeed, a fan. I also am only just a fan, because the virgin margarita (I don't drink) I ordered was a mix of mango and raspberry. However, it was much more mango and much less raspberry. That said, though, thank God! The raspberry tasted nasty and as if it was full of alcohol. Even my sister said so. She ordered a strawberry and raspberry mix. The portions are very generous and gave all of us an extra meal, since we took a to go box. Given that, the prices are generous, too. Also, the music is quite loud. I had to talk louder. read more

Called to place an order for pickup and should have known better based on the phone call...Kimberly S didn't know what pollo poplano was and kept asking if I wanted beef or chicken or the regular kind? I kept saying the plate IS a chicken plate because pollo means chicken in Spanish! I asked for a larger serving of the salsas of each since it was for 6 people and she rolled her eyes and walked away....when she came back, instead of bringing a larger more appropriate serving size for a party of 6, she brings me another 1 ounce container of each salsas!!! I asked her "does this look like enough salsa for a party of 6?" In the midst of this, a manager of walks up and I asked "hi are you a manager?" (Miguel in a maroon button up) He says yes so I begin to explain to him about Kimberly's poor performance and attitude and he has to nerve to say "oh I'm sorry I wasn't here so I'm not sure what's going on with your order or whatever but she's new so that's probably why" and I said "so you're justifying her poor attitude bc she's new?" After that comment he perked up and began to take charge of the situation like a manager should have in the first place. I left with my order and as I pulled into the driveway I realized there were no tortillas for 4 plates and a side of queso for 3 fajitas were missing! So I go back to get the missing items and go directly to Miguel...then he looks up the order to make sure I wasn't lying then says no those fajitas don't come with cheese...I said yes they do when you dine in and order fajitas they give you the meat tortillas and all the fixings...he tried to go tooth and nail with me and I said what you really should be doing to trying to rectify the situation since it was a mess from the beginning but now you're making it worse. And then he tried to joke and said "man everyone is getting your order wrong today I wonder why? " So unprofessional and totally did not want to be involved in the situation from the beginning just happened to get into the crossfire...what's the point of being a "manager" then? I'm not too much of a fan of this Los Cucos location by Katy Mills. While the place is always packed and service is always excellent, I just don't get the same vibe or atmosphere at this location that I do from the others. Maybe it is just the layout, maybe it is just me, I don't know. The food is, of course, really good. After Hurricane Ike this was one of the few restaurants that was open and while I did have food at my house, it felt good to get out of the house after being in there with no power / ac for two days! If you're in the area I would recommend the other Los Cucos in old town Katy just across the freeway (the second one to ever open!!), though if you're not too picky then this one will do just fine as well. read more

I brought my grandmother here for her birthday last night. My mom and grandfather came along with us. There was no wait, but I will assume it was because we went on a Wednesday night. My grandparents had chicken fajitas for two. They devoured all their food pretty quick, so it's safe to say they really liked their food. My mom ordered the grilled chicken breast off the healthy menu and I ordered the spinach enchiladas. I'm a fan of spinach enchiladas and this was my first time having them from Los Cucos. They were so good! They are served with just a tad of white rice, black beans, a salad, and the spinach is wrapped with whole wheat tortillas. A healthy meal that tastes amazing - it was glorious. When we first arrived our soon to be waiter was standing there and he wanted us to sit in his section (I assume for a tip). We ordered and one person in my party ordered no lettuce on her taco and she didn't get cheese, tomatoes or the grilled onions. When she asked for the onions they brought her hardly cooked onions. She asked if they could grill them and someone else came and asked if she had wanted onions at all and she responded with yes but grilled onions. He brought back the same plate of onions. So she sent them back once again. Then she had to ask for cheese form two different people before she got some. When the grilled onions came correctly the whole bottom of the plate was filled with grease. She then had to ask two people to speak with the manager and he finally came and didn't really seem conceded at all. It was not a good experience. read more
