My family and I loved Castillo's! So far it's my favorite local Mexican place. Their pork verde is some of the best I've had in a restaurant, homemade tortillas and flour tortilla chips, amazing spicy jalapeno sauce. The fajitas are not traditional as sizzling, unfortunately, and we were there at the very end of the day that the fryer oil needed to be changed, leaving my sons chimichanga with that dirty fryer oil taste, but the chimichanga was over stuffed with great flavor. I'd go back just for the sweet, attentive service and the pork verde though. Aces! The shop itself was cute and I love their Jesus and taco's slogan. Everything seemed to be go up to the counter and order, serve your own drinks and such, but they waited on us hand and foot right up to closing. Absolutely awesome service! read more

This review is for Castillo's breakfast/brunch. Absolute excellence. These are the best breakfast tacos you will find anywhere. They have the best green salsa too. Tortillas are excellent. We also ordered the chips and queso. Freakin' fantastic! Castillo's is the sister restaurant of Tejas Taco House in Chinatown. If you don't know, Tejas is where you want to go if you want a Tex-Mex breakfast. Their green salsa is perfection. I've been going to Tejas at least once a week for the past 12 years. Try them! Castillo's is very similar, only open for dinner, open on Sunday, and they have a full bar. It's like Heaven. Other great breakfast and brunch meals: Carne Guisada, Chiliquiles, and Migas. read more

I enjoyed the Combination Plate which had a good cheese enchilada, tostada, rice and beans, and a crispy crunchy taco ($12.99). Rice and beans alright. I had to request chips and salsa, which were very good, my new favorite green salsa in Katy. Prices are okay, just wish a little cheaper and the specials a little cheaper. Went for breakfast. Tacos were stuffed and fantastic. Tortillas are homemade and fluffy. Pancake was huge! Wish there was warm syrup but we didn't even ask. Just swallowed our food because it was so delicious! Water, juice, Soft drinks and coffee are self serve which I love! A little chilly inside but once you eat, you'll warm up. Had to go back because I have a list. Lol Knocked out a potato, egg & cheese breakfast taco and tried the club sandwich. The taco was good. It was a nice size and really nothing extraordinary. The club sandwich was nice, fresh and beautifully made. The Cholula mayo is what made it. The cold cuts once again were the regular deli meat & cheese. Nothing special. On the crinkle French fries. They were dark on the outside but didn't seem fully cooked on the inside and I'm trying to figure out whether they were made in house or store bought frozen as they appear to be a thicker cut of fries. Will try the poblano chicken on my next visit. As always, the staff was extremely nice. read more

We're new to the area and we think this is the new breakfast spot! To say we were impressed in an understatement. This restaurant is so efficient, service is on point, and the food is delicious. The way this restaurant functions, it was obvious there is great leadership, work ethic and dedication to the establishment. It stayed busy while we were there but tables were flipped so quickly and smoothly. Its order at the front and then sit yourself, but while there are no servers, the staff does check in on you time to time, which was nice. We met and spoke to the owner, who seemed well known and liked by the locals, who was also working hard cleaning tables and sweeping himself, and wow. He sets a wonderful example for his team. Truly commendable and clearly running things well. Now on to the food. The breakfast tacos with salsa were great, my husband's chilaquiles were delightful - better than any others we've had (I stole a bite), a great balance of cheese, crema, flavorful salsa, and eggs. Seriously, I think they're a must have. Honestly, I see why this place stays packed, but don't let the line scare you away. It moves quickly and tables flip just as fast. Total recommend and I cannot wait to be back. read more

I ordered the Carne Guisada which wasn't bad. I give it a 7 out of 10. The fresh made tortillas are delicious. I give those a 9 out of 10. The problem I have is with the value. For the Carne Guisada and a Coke Zero, I paid $20.03 including tax. However, they provide absolutely no service here. You order at a counter and pay at the time of your order. Fountain beverages are self-service. I can go to many other Latin restaurants, receive food of similar quality, pay similar prices, but receive table side service. The kicker is that their cash register promted me to leave a tip. They are providing no service but want you to tip them. Absolutely ridiculous. Unless they start providing table side service or lower their prices to compensate me for the lack of service, I won't be back. read more

Recommended by my mom and stepdad, when I offered to treat them to dinner last Saturday. This is a mid-size, clean, family-owned local restaurant. Steady flow is f customers, but we were able to be seated right away. No long waits like at the chain restaurants. You order at the counter, which also doubles as the full bar. And then the staff brings you their food. Self serve soft drink and tea stations. Everyone was happy with their selections. I particularly enjoyed that their food was not overloaded with cilantro (which I can't stand). Guacamole was fresh and bright green. The red sauce was tasty and an even hotter, spicier green sauce is available. My folks said they have a terrific breakfast. I may have to pop back in next Saturday and try that. All of the food coming out looked amazing. I want to try the ceviche and street tacos on my next visit! we went last night for a quick supper. Wowsa! there were of us, 2 couples. we were greeted immediately upon entering. the employees are very friendly and helpful. we ordered at the counter and found a table. we had the jalapeño appetizer and queso. the chips and salsa are my hubby's favorite. he likes the thicker chips and these did not disappoint. I had a breakfast taco (which I reheated the next day and it was AMAZING!) and the carne guisada taco. the tortillas are fresh and very, very good. the carne was tender and tasty. I also tasted the tortilla soup. YUM! a great broth with well developed flavors. Castillo was in the soft opening phase, which we didn't realize. they run it smoothly and efficiently. the kitchen was super quick. everything arrived hot and tasty. they said they will have a full service bar in the future. all of the employees are friendly and professional. prices are great too. you will love Castillos and won't be disappointed. give it a try. we will return. we all decided this place is very good. very. good. read more

Do not expect to be waited on. This is counter ordering. Do expect to be asked for a tip. My tip is don't. Food quality low. Nachos were messy, expensive and big disappointment. First time, food was good but on the pricey side. I was picking a burrito up to go. Most Taqueria's or Mexican restaurants burritos are huge. Castillos was the Texas Burrito priced $13.99 and I upgraded $4.00 more for fajita meat. And asked to add cheese and sour cream to the burrito and enchilada sauce it comes with they pour over I requested on the side. So $18 for this 3 inch not kidding burrito and they put the sour cream and cheese on the side instead of inside and it came with rice and some lettuce with chopped tomatoes on top. I was disappointed in the portion size compared to the price. And they didn't follow instructions adding cheese and sour cream. read more

First off wow! The service was top notch, we paid for our food upfront and maybe about 10 minutes after we sat down we got our food, everyone was really nice. The food itself taste delicious I'm usually a little picky when it comes to chicken anything, and I had the chicken chimichanga with refried beans. It came out super tasty the cilantro tasted fresh the queso on top was great I honestly was pleasantly surprised with everything including the ambiance. They will definitely be seeing me again. Service was great. Clean place and that's good. Food was ok, but I can only guess that the ingredients used must contain preservatives and flavor enhancements. Wife and I try to eat food that is not processed and no chemicals. I think that a well trained chef could easily turn this place into a great restaurant. I ran a family owned business but assuming family favorites will please the general population or love of cooking are not good reasons to have a family restaurant. This time the Food lacked flavor, requested queso and was given shredded cheese, I can understand how this could be misinterpreted But in the context of being at a Mexican restaurant, it seemed obvious. Hate making these kind of reviews. Genuinely was hoping this would be a good spot. But this is what yelp is for. Honest reviews. Was on a bit of a time crunch, Walked in, place was empty so felt somewhat hopeful I'd be out of there quick, ordered 3 breakfast tacos (lady was on phone) $17 later....yes seventeen for 3 tacos.....I got my order (didn't take that long) but one of my tacos was wrong (mind you I was the only one there. Only order lol). They said they could correct it but it was a start it from scratch kind of deal which I had no time for. I just took the taco since I know remaking it or refunding it would add to my commute to work so I just took my tacos and my big L and left. Tacos were mid at best. Not the worst I've had in Katy (there's some bad ones out there for sure) but definitely not worth the price. I'd give them a good 5/10. Not sure if the tortillas were hand/home made but could be wrong but if you can't tell then they're just as bad as tortilla from a bag. I tried but couldn't eat the taco they got wrong so definitely took a $6 loss there. Had a sausage and egg one that was decent. Most likely will just stick to 7-Eleven tacos (Laredo taco co) next time. It is much more worth the value (under $3) and they're good. Better tortilla. Bigger. Faster. Cheaper and they have specials pretty often. I know this place isn't a breakfast taco spot which probably means I need to check their actual lunch/dinner food out but if the lunch price point is similarly scaled as the breakfast I probably won't be coming back at all and this place will be like its predecessor: Overpriced mediocre Mexican food. Time will tell. Shame cuz it's on my way to work but again this is just my experience doesn't mean you won't have a better one or that it will be the same on my next trip but the bar is set low for me. read more

From the outside it looks like it could be a hole in the wall, but the inside is very clean, new, and comfortable. Finally someone has awesome breakfast tacos in this town!!! We had carne guisada, migas, picadillo, chorizo and egg, and chicharron. We liked the migas best, but the carne guisada was a close second. They serve your food with warmed red salsa...the way it should be served! They also have a spicy green salsa that isn't just spicy but has delicious flavor. The staff is super friendly and makes sure you are enjoying everything and feel welcomed. Ever since moving from San Antonio we've struggled to find great tacos, but I think we've done it!
