    Octopus and pork taco

An amazing place in Monterrey! Of all restaurants I visited during my one week stay in the city, this was one of the few that offered English menus and had English-speaking staff. The service was efficient and friendly, and I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped into the door. The ambience was nice - the lighting and music was relaxing. I saw a lot of local people dining here - families, businessmen, and couples, so apparently it's a good place for these occasions. I ordered the octopus since it looked appetizing from others' Yelp reviews, and it was delicious! It was lightly-seasoned, juicy and not overcooked at all. I also ordered a pork taco just to try it, and it was tasty as well. The price was definitely higher than a lot of local establishments (I spent a bit more than $30 USD), but it's definitely worth the price. And needless to say, a meal like this would surely cost more in the US. Overall, a must visit!

I have been searching high and low for good tender octopus (pulpo) since i visited Spain back in '04 to no avail. I've had some nicely prepared pulpo that was very good, but always had a firm or rubbery texture. I was beginning to think the tender giant pulpo i had in Spain was a dream until i tried it at Los Hidalgos. This was nicely spiced and very tender. It was more like eating perfectly seared scallops. Yes, that tender! Being a steak house they also had a good wine list. The Valle de Guadalupe Monte Xanic Merlot paired very nicely. I will return for the steak. Highly recommend to all.

So we decided to give us one to go. The inside is so cool. It's definitely a vibe. The waiters and waitresses are so nice. They got a seated right away and our waiter knew what to recommend and was just so nice very attentive the whole time. So you start off with complementary chips and salsa, which was great. I ordered a gin with red fruits and club soda in it, which was very refreshing and they balanced it really well. For food I got the Mollejas plate which is one of my favorites I asked for an extra crispy and they definitely listened, and it was delicious. My aunt got the machitos and she said it was delicious. It was not up to my pallet. It was too wild for me but for the people that like that stuff it is definitely up your alley and my aunt said this was some of the best ones that she's had. My mother got the cabrito paleta and I was always skeptical on Cabrito but I have to say it was really good and not wild at all. I would definitely get some again when I go back to Mexico. It also came with complementary Charo beans and they were delicious. And really nice. They comped us some frijoles con veneno and they tasted so good. I would've never ever thought to order those. At the end, they bring you a huge tray of desserts to choose from and of course I went straight for the Guayaba cheesecake. It's my favorite dessert to eat when I'm there in Mexico. It was divine. So this place definitely lives up to its standards. It is really cool to see. Definitely added to your list when you're visiting out here.

Then we had the opportunity to share the Coliflor al Grill (which is also fried by the way!), Salmon al Chipotle Balsámico, and for dessert the Pan de Elote with Glorias ice cream. Everything was super tasty from start to finish. The servers keep an eye on you and make sure to take empty plates off the table refill your drinks and offer you more things as soon as you're done. The restaurant is located in a nice plaza where other restaurants are also located. Convenient parking on lower levels.

Upon making our reservation we were not informed there would be a time limit for our dinner. Nevertheless, upon arrival we were told we only had 2 hours at our table since they would use it. And sure enough two hours later we were asked to leave even though we were still ordering drinks. It was not as if we were just loitering without paying. Really rude in our opinion. Then there was the food. If I had to describe it in one word it would be: uneventful. We tried the chicharron de rib-eye and another steak as well as three sides. The quality of the meat was lacking and not well cooked. The sides were bland. It might be the fact that I had such high expectations that I found this place a disappointment. Drinks were nothing out of the ordinary. In general, overpriced for what it is. Apparently the place doubles as a night club.Perhaps if you only go for drinks or at times where there's music it might be different. But if you are looking for exceptional food, it's best to stick with La Nacional. If you want to splurge best to do it in style and with great quality.
