Ugh. I have been looking for a local Mexican restaurant as the main one close to me has not been the best. Figured we would give Los Jalapeños a try. Went on a Thursday night and there was just one waitstaff. It took almost ten minutes to have her come to our table, there were 4 other tables of people. When she came to take our order we felt very rushed. I ordered the special quesabirria tacos with an enchilada on the side, because I wanted to try one. My companion got a chicken taco salad. We did have chips and salsa and bean dip that was tasty, but our food was inedible. There was literally no flavor to any of our food. The quesabirria tacos fell apart on the plate, the enchilada sauce was very tinny tasting, like it had come out of a can, even the taco salad had zero flavor, I've never experienced anything like it. We even put the salsa in the salad and it didn't help. The worst part is when we got the bill and the special was $25 for 2 tacos. Our total bill was almost $80. Not going back. We choose this one every now and then, because of the convenience, the great service, and the food. I had taco salad today. Love the Crispy shell, and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. Vegetarian items can be difficult. I get that. I thought veggie fajitas would be safe. Wrong. I ordered through a delivery service, so I know nothing about the ambiance or service. Sorry. What I can tell you about is the experience of receiving your food and not being able to figure out what was yours because nothing looked like veggie fajitas. "Where are my grilled vegetables?" I asked. They were nowhere to be seen. There was, however, a styrofoam container filled with wet, diced, vegetables. The veggies were random. Who puts celery in fajitas? And all the veggies were cut very small. They had continued cooking while trapped in the container on the way to my house. This only served to make it all worse because they were mush. Completely overcooked. And they were not grilled. They were sauteed in a pan with margarine and wine. It was like being given the foundation of a shitty soup or stuffing. And I ordered them because every vegetarian item included undisclosed "veggies" I thought if they were grilled, it would be ok. No. I would believe they make decent food for omnivores. It is possible. But the vegetarian options are horrible, and I would avoid them at all costs. They should hire a vegetarian consultant to work with them on menu items and trash every present option. read more

Been ordering lunch from here for past couple of months. The food is not the greatest, but I want to support the family and I feel sad that it is often empty in there. I always tip on my to go order. I guess I was lucky to get the nice sons who work there before who are generous and kind. Today a woman took my order, the mom I guess, and wow was she the most unfriendly person. The bag of chips she gave me with my order had literally 9 chips in it. I asked for another bag and she told me I had to pay. I moved from Texas a few years ago. This little restaurant in Camas is a great reminder of the taste and feel of the local Mexican restaurants I grew up with. However, this restaurant contains many -american- dishes that are Mexican inspired, such as flour tortillas and Fajitas. Many of the dishes are not pure-Mexican and they certainly use the PNW versions of style/flair - such as the Tamal (a.k.a. Tamale). The authentic kind are small and in corn husks and sauces/toppings on the side; the West Coast / Pacific NW style is a gigantic, almost burrito-sized concoction that is not in the corn husk and drenched in sauce. All the above being said, know that the ingredients are fresh, flavors are wonderful, and you can see/taste that the cooks really care about the quality of the food and ingredients. We were looking for a restaurant to sit down and eat during this Covid thing so we decided to try here. Service was good the the atmosphere was OK, but the food really ruined it for us. Party of four none of us ate all of our food. I felt like I was forcing myself to eat my wife took a few bites and was done. My daughter did like the fries but she's only five. I must say this place was packed on Cinco de Mayo as my family and I chose to venture out for some really good Mexican food in our area. First off, being as busy as they were with such a small restaurant space you pretty much had to wait in middle of restaurant for a seat, but the staff managed to pull it off and were quick and proficient. The scathing reviews seem uncalled for. It is just normal comfort food, with normal prices. I went in empty, and left full. There are many different locations, and they are all basically the same. I have been here many times, and never had any problems. If you are bringing the kids, I don't think they will complain. You also wont get soaked on the bill. Yelp can make or break a business these days. If service/food is truly that bad, then post it. This little hole in the wall, with cactus in the bathroom is a perfect spot for any night of the week. From the service, to the food and everything was five star. The chips were so hot and fresh, i had to wait a few minutes to avoid burning my tongue. The pico was perfect too -- had a decent bite to it. The owner of this place is a long time Mexican food restaurateur. Having run several places over the course of his career has leant multiple lifetimes of experience that comes across in Los Jalepenos. He knows what works in Mexican food and he knows service. Just a couple weeks ago we were coming back starving from a day on the river and Yelp! led us to this place and I'm glad it did. This is not a super sterile type of Mexican like Chipotle (ironic?) and it's also not the Mexican food for the overly adventurous (dingy hole in the wall) it is somewhere right in the middle. Saucy, cheesy and generously sized with no major repercussions that you may experience in a not-so-clean Taqueria. The food is just straight good. I have the ground beef burrito and tamal combo and it was just what I had hoped for. The tamal had a touch of sweetness like honey and it was perfectly moist and delicious and the sauces were not too salty or overpowering. The burrito was great. No major complaints and no major fuss just well made food. We got take out and the owner was chatting with me very nicely and testing my spanish speaking skills. The place was very comfy and I was quite inspired by the professionalism and the whole package this guy was able to pull off in the middle of... Camas. Bravo, Senior!
