Three main things when I think of Los Lagos: 1. A local fox population. You may see them running around and hanging out on the greens, especially during the early morning. 2. Odd layout with a lot of back and forth between holes. Total yardage is only around 5000-5400 due to 9 par 3s (par 68 course), but long par 5s and distances between a couple of holes make the course deceptively long especially if walking. 3. The local homeless population. Coyote Creek Trail runs through the course and you may see some homeless + their dogs walking along the cart paths adjacent to the creek. I've never had a problem, but one may want to be aware if leaving golf carts unattended. Has a two-tier driving range with range buckets priced similarly to other driving ranges around San Jose, with TopTracer being installed within the past couple of years. Conditions are fair for a muni course. Water features make things interesting. Holes 4, 6, 9, and 18 offer challenges and are my favorites. Pace of play is usually good on the weekdays (3-3.5 hr). Definitely worth playing if you can find a GolfNow deal or twilight. Staff has always been friendly. read more

Great driving range. Just beware that workers here will blast their music from the back of their car with an Amp AND will bring their guitar to play along with it. Don't mind music but would like to enjoy the range not having someone else's music turned up to 11. Also, hearing them announce your tee time is difficult. It's a great place to learn the game and not pay premium prices. The range could definitely use some upgrades but they do have ball trackers so that cool. They need a better putting and chipping area because it's too small. The course is a par 68 but it's in great shape. The greens seem subtle but are challenging. The layout could be better because it's barely walkable. The pro shop is great and they have a good selection of items and good service. The pro shop worker, specifically the older bald *ss asian dude is a complete j*ck *ss. I have seen other reviews for the pro shop service regarding the same dude and don't know how that guy is still working here. He acts like he is so above you and treats you like you are an inconvenience for coming into the pro shop to check in for a tee time or ask a question. I don't understand why every time I come here he's always at the front desk and always looks like he's in a bad mood whenever he talks to me. I understand if he woke up on the wrong side of the bed sometimes, but this is every single time. I like the course as it is, but the pro shop definitely holds it back. read more

The reason I giving a 3 star is because of the range area. Most of the range balls are alway super dirty. Caked on mud and dirt. If you don't clean the balls off yourself it will scuff the clubs more than usual. Super dirty caked on mud will mark up your club face. As for the course it's great. I like it, that's why 3 stars. But the rang balls that you get are just trashed and super warned out. And for the price you pay for range balls, I think at least you get clean range balls. I really hope someone at los Lagos see this post and do something about it. I have to go to San Jose muni just for the range season. I live only two miles away from LL. Good value and low entry cost. Decent terrain. Densely layed out, which can be confusing. Mostly good looking and picturesque. Has a LOT of bold foxes. They are super confident and will steal your food out of the cart. Quick as a fox. Overall, inexpensive for a full golf course. read more

Rating is for driving range, ball conditions are not great often with damaged balls. Tracer machines have a high rate of malfunction incidents. Wifi no connect, tracing someone else's balls, or just totally miss tracking. Charging premium for practice balls while not deliverying is not the right business practice. I came here yesterday to hit some balls at the range for fun. I went inside the shop to buy a tee for the range. Upon coming in, an older asian man named Jerry was making noticeable facial expressions of disgust and annoyance because of my questions. I had my questions answered by a younger man behind him, and he was super helpful. This really sours my experience here at the shop. Jerry - if your attitude is like this towards ALL new beginners or towards non-regulars, you need to fix it. He doesn't even have basic customer service skills and needs to be trained or have someone else as the cashier. I suggest AVOID JERRY at all costs and have someone else help you out. read more

What a long course for not being par 72. The green fees are very reasonable. You definitely get your "bank for the buck". However, it can be difficult for those who walk the course. Some of the distances between holes are quite far. Overall, the grounds team there kept it in great shape. Some of the water hazards acted like magnets for a couple of my golf balls. Lol! Really uncomfortable game. There was a party ahead of us that were yelling LGBTQ hate comments and constantly yelling FORE while driving away in their cart, laughing at people ducking. The group behind us repeatedly hit balls right next to where we were standing in the middle of the fairway. The marshal accused us of having a party of 8 at when there was only 4 of us, asking us to pick up the pace. Would've appreciated if he actually did his job, noticing there were 2 parties ahead of us that we're holding up the game, not us. They also charged a full $82pp when they had just aerated the greens. We did encounter a couple of homeless folks as other comments mentioned, but they were harmless. Safe to say we won't ever be returning!! 1 extra star since the driving range is alright. read more

It's not a bad course. I enjoy playing a fun game with friends and it's nice to see the foxes come out. However the homeless on the 14th hole are out of control. The encampment is getting larger and there was a woman who came out who yelled saying F this and F you at people on the 14th hole. One group passed that hole. I mentioned it to the front desk when I left. I felt it was not safe. I also mentioned they had campfires going. He mentioned they have spoken to the homeless before about the fires. That tells me they are allowed to be there. I'm compassionate but seems to be getting dangerous and unsanitary. They have to be going to the bathroom in the creek. read more

The new management team has really improved the overall look and feel of the course! The Top Tracer simulators are awesome! The pro shop is well stocked and fully staffed, and the new additions of the more TV's in the bar/ restaurant are a welcome addition. Los Lagos is a hidden gem and likely overlooked because it's not a standard par 72 layout but rather a par 68 layout. For $57 walking on a weekend morning, it's a decent value. While fairways had some patchy spots, overall, the course is incredibly fun to play, particularly if you enjoy target golf. The slopes and well placed bunkering really add great character to the course. Due to the additional number of par 3 holes, there is some waiting involved so be prepared to play longer rounds - our group took 5 hours to finish and this seems to be the norm anyway for weekend rounds at popular locations. I'd definitely come back as the water hazards, well placed bunkers and decent green conditions make this an enjoyable course. read more

I had a horrible experience to at the los Lagos golf course If you want to wait four and a half hours to finish the front nine the course is great for you. You will be waiting 30 minutes at least before you can tee off because the group in front of you thinks they are pga pros trying to make the tour. Who would've thought there would be a nice course along Capitol Expressway?! I always drive by this course and thought nothing of it since it's near homeless encampment but I gave their driving range a shot. I ended up liking their range so I purchased a range key; will definitely be forced to visit more often. Just yesterday, I finally played their 18 hole course and was not disappointed. The staff in the clubhouse were very nice and they have plenty of liquor/food option. The course is well maintained. Saw a couple of foxes, which was awesome! The price is fair, twilight rate was a bargain. Overall, will definitely play here again. A couple of downside to this course: -group before me did not give a damn about their pace, they were definitely hitting multiple times off the tee and were very inconsiderate of others. Definitely been having this kind of problems on a lot of the public courses. -course is narrow so expect people from other groups visiting the hole you're on -cart path is bumpy, lots of potholes read more

This is the first time we played here and we were all amazed at how well maintained the fairways and greens are. When you play this course, there are 9 holes on par 3, 5 holes on par 5, and 4 holes on par 4. Par 3 ranges from 100 to 170 yards on the white tees. Hole 18 is the longest par 5 close to 600 yards. Par 4s are anywhere from 300-350 yards. If you want to practice your irons, this course is nice to play them. The greens are wide and you can hit the greens consistently. 18 hole is very challenging if you're not a long hitter. You'll see water hazards on some holes but you can avoid them if you know where to hit them. You have to follow the signs especially once you move to Hole 3. You have to pass thru a bridge that takes you to Hole 4. Since this is the first time here, we cross this bridge 3 times just to get to the next hole. If you don't follow the signs, it will take you to a different hole. All fairways are very wide and you'll not be afraid to hit your tee shots very hard. You can rip that ball and your ball will still be found on the fairway. While playing, there's a foursome in front of us that causing slow play. A marshal noticed and advised the group to keep their pace faster. After our round, we enjoyed a small snack at the clubhouse. This course is nice and you'll enjoy on how it's maintained. We will definitely come back again. read more

If you're a very good golfer I would stay away from here. The course conditions are horrible. Over watered areas, dry patches and the worst part is the people there. This is a beginner course. If you don't know rules or etiquette its fine i guess to play here. People walk into your fairway without acknowledging your at the tee box, and people apparently take divots out of the green for whatever reason. I just wouldn't ever play here again. read more

I've been here a few times now with my work crew to play 9 or 18 holes after work. There are special rates for later in the afternoon on course fees and carts. This is a municipal golf course with 18 holes and a driving range. The course and driving range fees are affordable. It's a beautiful course in my opinion, with different types of challenges. We had a lot of fun playing this course and I always look forward to our golf outings here. They have a little restaurant that serves food, beer and wine. They will pour you a nice cold draft in a to-go cup with a top (bumpy cart protector) to enjoy during your game. Only one warning for those playing this course, the back part of the golf course is somewhat open to the street and inhabited by transients. While playing, another team reported a theft from their cart while it was unattended. Keep all of your valuables on you or locked away and you shouldn't have any issue. read more

I played for $37 on a Monday for a 1:30 tee time and walked 18 holes before sunset. It's a well maintained course and it wasn't too busy when I played but I think I just got lucky. It's definitely not the most walkable course (I walked 6 or 7 miles total) but pretty flat so doable if you're in shape. I wouldn't play it in the morning when it's more expensive but for an afternoon/ twilight tee time I would definitely go again! read more

I called this morning (6/21/24), talk with Jerry (whom I've dealt with before) He's usually a cool, nice guy but IDK, who pissed in his Cheerios, but he was rude and felt like I was buggn him. I was trying to book a tee time for Friday 5th of July. All he kept on saying, to early, to early, I wanted to ask what date I need to call in to book but he hung up on me, I called back and got VM (boy did I leave a message for him)!!! I haven't played here for many years, I've joined some friends on a Sunday due to NOT being able to book anywhere else. The course is short, only par 68 due to having many par 3's. The course is well kept, the fairways are green and beautiful, the bunkers have soft sand and the greens are smooth and nice looking. The only thing that the management should pay attention to is there's NO trash cans at any T-boxes, not sure if it's because of COVID19 but other golf course do have them. I've seen apple cores on the ground, candy, protein bar wrappers were every where. Some T-boxes were quite ugly to look at. The pace on this golf course due to many inexperience golfers is quite slow, expecting 4hr30 per round. It's easy to loose balls due to sharing hilly and blind fairways. If you don't mark your balls, others may hit them without checking. Some of the par 3's are quite nice with ponds and challenging. I've seen many people made birdies. Over all, it's a nice course with 2 levels driving range and putting greens for practice. read more

It's a picturesque 18-hole course that lets you use every club in your entire bag. When I say picturesque, I mean that you will almost completely forget that you're just a couple streets off Capitol in a dense, populated urban portion of San Jose. The campus at Lagos has gorgeous green rolling hills, foxes, waterfowl, deer, nicely maintained shrubbery, and much more of a hillside country feel than a Capitol & Snell, South San Jose feel. My first trip to Lagos, there was a couple getting married on the premises because the backdrop is so beautiful. The gleaming first impression makes it all the more shocking when you encounter the homeless encampment just steps away from the tee off box on hole 3. And I don't mean there's a homeless guy, or a single homeless family, roughing it in the nearby woods. There is literally a giant encampment that looks like the Lost Boys hideout from Hook. A big system of tents and tarps erected around a small grove in the woods, fit for 10-20 homeless people. In fact, the last time we were there, one of the homeless had driven an old Volkswagon car (stuffed to the brim with belongings) into that same area. The sheer size of the encampment leads you to believe that the management team at Los Lagos is aware of the homeless issue, but is doing nothing about it. To confirm: the homeless never approached us and kept to themselves for the most part... but the last three times we've played at Lagos, homeless people are walking on the cart path between the 4th and 5th hole. Even though they seem fairly innocuous, our entire party played those 3 holes with our wallets and keys and phones in our pockets, since we didn't want to leave them in our bags on the golf carts near the path where the homeless traversed. In terms of the course itself, Lagos offers a fairly medium level of challenge. Most of the fairways are nice and big and wide. You get to use those hybrids and woods that come out of the bag far less often. Every now and then they'll sneak a small par 3 into the mix so you can practice your stoke with the higher irons and wedges. On average, I lose about 3 balls when I head out to an 18-hole course and I'd say Lagos usually syphons 4-5 balls out of my collection when I play there. The big pond on the 4th is fairly easy to avoid... it's coming back on the 6th where I usually blast my ball with the driver over the right side hill into the pond on the 4th. Hot dogs and red bulls at the turn, usually with a round of cigar for everybody. The club house and food selection here is pretty darn decent and always satisfies, and it's worth noting that the staff is always top notch here. The only gripe I have (besides the homeless invasion near the 3/8 holes) is the odd flow of the course. You plays holes 1 & 2... then you drive the cart 3 minutes over a bridge to hole #3... where you play the next 5, before traversing BACK over the bridge for the next 5 holes, then back to the other side for holes 13/14, before coming back to the main side for the final 4. Very odd design. I get that you need to go across the bridge after the first 2 holes, but you wonder why they didn't finish the front 9 with all 7 holes across the bridge before coming back for the final 9 in the main area. Having to go back and forth 4 times is just weird. Last time we went to Lagos, there was a single player behind us. The guy was from New York on vacation, trying to play a different course every day until he flew home. We caught him on his Lagos day. After the front 9, we let him play through at the turn so he could go ahead. When we got to the 15th, he pulled up BEHIND us because he'd gotten lost trying to navigate his way through Lagos' weird, confusing course design flow. Anyway, those 2 issues (homeless people, odd course design) are very minor gripes compared to what you might run into at other courses. For a Saturday morning with the boys, Lagos is a terrific time! read more

10 stars for Los Lagos as an event space. Huge thank you to the amazing event coordinator Karina Marquez. We held my mother's memorial Celebration of Life at Los Lagos, and everything was absolutely perfect. Karina was extremely professional, empathetic, helpful and paid attention to all the details to honor my mom. Everything was set up so beautiful. My entire family had a great time and it was the perfect venue to celebrate my mom. The sunset at the end of the evening overlooking the golf course was just the cherry on top of a very emotional but beautiful celebration. I can't thank Karina and the rest of the staff that assisted during our event enough. Highly recommend this venue for any type of special event. It's also very accommodating for families with children like ours, which was very appreciated! Thank you for making my mother's special day a happy celebration. You have to have expectations set for Los Lagos. Is it a 5 star golf course? No. Is it a value for what you get? YES. The front 9 is pretty easy inviting course that is long enough to get your golf game going (better than like a Pruneridge), with inviting Par 5s, really simple Par 3s, and not a lot of places to lose your ball (except on 4 over water). read more

Don't waste your time or money here. Unfriendly staff and the round took 6 hours. All the staff I interacted with at the clubhouse spoke to me in a condescending manner. The man at the front desk told me I didn't have a tee time when I called him and scheduled through him two hours ago on the same day. Instead of offering a solution he just shrugged his shoulders. The woman behind the food counter had her AirPods in and was FaceTiming her friend while taking my order. She rolled her eyes and gave me attitude the whole time. Just a really unpleasant experience the whole time. The staff acted annoyed that I was there to play golf (when they work at a golf course). I don't understand why people like that work in customer service. read more

The golf course is in good condition for the price. Note it is a par 68 so you will get more par 3s than normal. I give it 3 stars because of the issue described below BEWARE! I recently had an issue with the cafe/restaurant there. I bought a beer ($6.50) and paid using my credit card and the new system they have requires them to enter the cc information manually. Twice they tried to process the transaction and twice it "returned an error" on their end saying information sent but could not be completed. I ended up paying cash for this but a few days later the two charges (one for each try) showed up on my credit card. The charges were less than $10 so the bank had no issues refunding me after calling them but I hope management can have a look and fix this - Some people may not notice!! read more

I went here with my school as a photographer (over a year ago) so I didn't pay for anything. I have no idea how much anything is or if it is worth the price. This review is more about the workers and the golf course itself. I think this golf course is just a little smaller than other places (or maybe it feels that way because I was on a golf cart the entire time) but I think it is so beautiful. Everyone keeps to themselves and it is very peaceful. The workers were very sweet to accommodate for me and my friend, who were late to our school's event so we had no idea where to go. The worker was nice enough to escort us and teach me how to drive the golf cart. Thank you so much for helping us and giving us a great experience! read more
