I was in the fourth day of my ambitious 2-month bicycle odyssey, pedaling West from El Paso/Cd…read more Juarez to Tijuana/West Coast on Ruta Dos, which is incredibly challenging as it has no shoulder/potholes/ crumbling asphalt. However, ALL of the (motor) vehicle operators were 100% cautious, always careful when passing me, including the 18- & 34-wheelers. I feel safer bicycling in Mexico than in the USA! Anyway, I entered Janos 13JUN2017 with great relief to finally get this far; I was ecstatic to see this fine hotel open and ready for guests (me/my Doublevision), especially since it also had air conditioning. I did have to move the furniture a wee bit to get my Doublevision inside, but I was absolutely secure & comfortable in this budget hotel. The most important aspect was being cool inside--it was Summer and rather warm outside. Another aspect was that I could go across the street to Del Rio, a convenience store which took my VISA charge card and bought much needed nutritional items, essential to keep my body going whilst pedaling throughout the day. I also stocked up on travel foods, anticipating long distances of nothing before arriving at the next sizable community, Agua Prieta, Sonora, including more bottled water. It was during the restful night that I realized that my age & sarcopenia was keeping me from cycling very fast, exacerbated by my usual 3-5 hour afternoon break in shade or a/c to avoid high mid-day heat. I altered my route (again) from thinking I'd pedal to Casa Grande on Ruta Diez, instead continuing West on Ruta Dos. I had used up the last of my pesos and needed to acquire more; there is an ATM about a half-mile away, which was kind of tucked out of the way beside the local police and I was able to find with assistance from the very friendly locals. I maxed out the amount I could get on my VISA debit card, thinking I'd need as much as possible over the next month to Tijuana/West Coast. To some travelers, this might rate 1 or 2 stars because there was no pool/hot tub/sauna, but it was absolutely fantastic for me! FIVE STARS and my hearty "WHEEL OF APPROVAL!" This community is great, and I look forward to returning, though not necessarily by Doublevision!

It was a very long drive, but I did have 3 stops along the way which averaged to 3 hours of drive time per stop. I try not to spend too much time at each stop unless I'm shopping for plush toys for my daughters which I did on a few occasions LOL. Anyway, back to this review, check-in was fast and easy. Just needed to show my ID. Staff was friendly and pleasant. Got some information about the hotel amenities and free continental breakfast times. Got my room key and I was on my way to a good cold shower and some peaceful sleep LOL. I was fortunate to get a 1st floor room. It was big and spacious with a king size bed. It also had a big desk, TV, microwave, and small frig. The bed was comfortable, but something about their clumpy pillows... they need to replace the pillows for better head support. The other thing that I didn't care for was the lingering musky smell of the shower curtains. Just wasn't pleasant. Luckily, I was only there for one night and just needed one shower LOL. Otherwise, I would have asked them to change the curtains. Continental breakfast was decent. They have the waffle machine to make fresh waffles. They had bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, apples, OJ & apple juices, etc. I just went for the raisin bagels (this was really good... it doesn't take too much to please me... just be the real deal LOL) and OJ (this was okay). Check-out was fast and easy. Just turned in the room key and left. Now that I think about it, the staff didn't print out any bill statement for me. Room was already paid for so I guess that's okay. Would I stay here again? I would if I'm going on a similar road trip. But next time, I'll probably fly. Thank you La Quinta!
