I asked for kiln dried fir knowing they had to order it. The Rep was cleaning a butcher knife while talking to me. When he learned I only needed 6 boards he's shrugged his shoulders and recommended the "big box store" in the next town. No I said; I like Corning Lumber for quality. He replied that he supposed he could order it but it would take a week. I knew it required special order. I just replied oh well and left. Recently a friend commented to me that Corning Lumber must want to go out of business. He had had a similar experience. Corning people are straight talkers. I'm used to that, but I am not used to a I don't really care attitude.

We drop in to check it out every time we're in town and always find something we want or need. They've got regular hardware items, plus all kinds of nuts, bolts, tools, and more. They also have a great selection of nice homewares and cookware, English tea pots, high quality Le Creuset cooking pots, skillets, etc., and small items like mini spatulas. If you ask him where something is he will point and wave his hand back and forth and say over there. If you ask for specifics he will ignore you. Then there is a woman in her mid-thirties who is a long time employee or co-owner who seems nice but will flip and become hostile in an instant. She interrogated me about what I was going to use cold whether window washer fluid for. It was non of her business, the fluid was for the cars window cleaning system, and when did window washer fluid become a controlled substance?! The last time I went in she asked if I had an Ace Rewards # and I said yes but it doesn't work even though I updated my contact information twice (Third time worked). After I said that, she turned to me with hatred on her face and just stared. I stared back, pushed the unpurchased items back, said I didn't want them and left. When I looked back she was still staring. Creepy! I am a polite person who goes to great length to not be noticed which is hard because I am a big dude. I especially do not want to be seen exhibiting untoward behavior at any time. With this I am certain their responses are not due to me being a jerk. Luckily, they are not the only game in town!

I asked an employee, he looked it up and said it shows in their system that they might have some in stock. Then a second employee got involved, then they sent me to another employee. He looked for the part, but they were out of stock. I've never experienced that much helpful service at a Home Depot, Nice store, good location, with plenty of parking. Ordered 9 windows with screens for $9500 in November...put them on my Home Depot card. They were very prompt with taking the order and our money...however, the deliver took the maximum amount of time for delivery. I was out of town on business when they installed and I couldn't believe the poor workmanship from their 3rd party vendor. I am pretty sure we were told it would be HD personnel doing the install. Anyway, and regardless the install was horrible. I complained and an installer from the 3rd party company and a HD rep came to our house...they took were "shocked" at the poor installation. When the original installers came, the didn't have the screens for the bathroom windows. They did nothing to inform HD of this shortage. Only when they came back to examine the poor installation were they informed...or at least that is what they said...who knows. Anyway, after several emails back in forth with the company telling how important this is, still no screens. I even told them they could just ship them to me and I will install. Today, May 2, yes, 5 months later I finally have given them two weeks to get me the screens or I will just have a reputable local company provide them for me and try and recover my cost from HD. My neighbor was going to have HD do their windows, but not after our experience. We also decided not to order a nearly $2000 custom door from HD after this experience. Buyer beware...completely over promise and under deliver...too bad, not the company they used to be. I will add, everyone we have encountered at the store is great, but their in home dept. simply doesn't have it together.

We didn't anticipate finding what we were looking for since the nurseries in the area didn't seem to have anything, but we were pleasantly surprised! The tiny garden section offered a variety of bird baths in different colors and styles at very reasonable prices. We picked out a classic concrete bird bath and walked out spending 1/3 of what we anticipated. What a deal!
