    Enchiladas (plate full of sauce)
    Consuelo R.

Service was okay, food was okay as well. My group ordered a few things: carne asada plate comes with charros, salad, rice, tortillas- carne was dry and tough Guisado came with rice, beans, tortillas also okay plate. Enchiladas three with beef, rice and beans- plate was filled with the sauce. Chips were good but you get a small basket for the whole table. Overall it was okay.

Horrible ! Horrible, we ordered and they had us waiting about 45-60 mind for our plates 3 tables got there after us and they got their food first The waitress una gordita con mucho eyeliner was rude to us since we arrived She back talked to us and hardly gave us attention When we got our food it was cold and my tortillas broke as i picked them up to eat Horrible

It looks very appealing but was bland. Camarones rancheros.

This place was ok. None of the food stood out as super good. Food was bland. Service was ok. Waitresses looked stressed. The chips and salsa were a definite NO. No flavor and the chips were stale. Maybe we came on an off day for them but don't think I will be returning.

Came here when I flew in from Boston. The food is good and inexpensive. Just the basics... there is no bar (they do not serve alcohol) I would come back, it's worth the money.

Best roasted baby goat cut is the riñonada. Highly recommend it. Enchilada plate is also good.

TERRIBLE. Ordered the chicken fajitas and this must be the only place on the planet that doesn't know fajitas are GRILLED. What I got was chicken that was roasted in a pan with some sort of sauce that I suspect they make in bulk and use for several dishes. I ordered chicken fajitas because it's pretty hard to mess that up. Congrats Los Nortenos. You managed to do it. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Taco trucks are more authentic.

    Rusty staple

Been going here for a while now and never experienced anything but great service and delicious food but today was very disgusting to say the least. I was so grossed out and extremely worried and thankful all at the same time that i DID NOT swallow a rusty piece of metal that looks like a creepy crawlers leg but it was very hard and sharp at the end which leads to believe its a staple in my egg omelette. I couldnt even gather myself to tell management about my surprise so i just walked as fast and nauseous to the register and paid my ticket. Will definitly never ever visit what used to be one of my favorite restaurants again.

    Large Barbacoa taco!

Despite its reviews this place is amazing!! Food and coffee were delicious, very generous servings, the large tacos are out of this world. Don't let the bad reviews stop you from coming here, it's definitely worth giving it a chance.

Burnt bacon n raw potatoes. Ugh!! Nortenos for breakfast no more!

Cold food, bad service, took forever, what more do you need? This place could be a three star place if these things were fixed.

I've been eating here since 1970 when menu was written daily on a small blackboard on the wall and plate lunches were $1.25, drink included. I left the area in '84 but have returned frequently ever since. Las Vegas is always my first stop, and last night was no different, meeting up with ten family members for dinner. Our server, Elizabeth, was superb. When I saw the menu, I was concerned. It was six or eight pages, with dishes I never expected to see here. But I understand why, even though my first thought was, "I hope they haven't messed with the traditional dishes." I've always maintained the cheese enchiladas here are among the three or four finest in the world, if not THE finest. That's what I always order. I also ordered panchos and guacamole. My wife ordered beef enchiladas. The guacamole was very good. The nice thing about LVC is they don't use much (if any) cilantro. This stuff ruins guacamole. Their homemade chips are beyond incredible and so is the salsa. The panchos were terrible. Way too much cheese. Ratios are important. The refried beans and rice were very dry. And finally, the cheese enchiladas. They were not good. There was very little gravy (this is what makes them so good) at all, and the gravy wasn't right. They have changed the recipe. There was also way too much cheese on top. Ratios are important. The medium (soft, medium or crispy taco shell) ground beef taco was perfect. My wife said her enchiladas were also disappointingly dry with bland gravy. I ate the taco and about half the rice, beans and enchiladas. I paid what might be my final tab here, and picked up everyone else's check. 56 years ago, I paid less than two bucks out the door. Last night's tab was over $250 with tip. Times have changed. Unfortunately, so has their food. The women's restroom was repulsive. I won't go into detail about the trash can.

Wow, while this place lacks flair, it far exceeds fair!…read more I've been scared of trying this janky-looking establishment out of fear of the wrath Montezuma would likely revenge upon my butt. Although the place looks like something to be feared, it is the closest restaurant to me, and last night I didn't want to venture far for my Mexican fill. After three months of driving by, I finally built up the courage to stop, and I am glad I did! Although the interior decor matches the plain and homely exterior, with no decorations except a few of the free posters and some mismatched tables and uncomfortable chairs, the food and service was among the best in town. First, the service. There were several waiters for this tiny establishment, and they could hustle. The drinks never went empty, and anyone who knows me, knows I drink a lot! Probably had five or six glasses of tea, and I never sat for even a moment, parched, at Platillo's. The hostess was nice and more-than-accommodating at one of my special requests. Next, I asked for hot sauce and jalapenos, as I often do, and the waiter asked, "Tabasco good?" I am not a big fan, but that seems to be number one standard in the industry, so I usually agree. However, on his own, he brought me the hotter, tastier, house sauce! Had he not took it upon himself, I would have never known it to exist. The only place to offer up a house hot sauce down here, and it is was worth that alone, because it was amazing. Which leads me to the food. The food was excellent! Homemade chips with great salsa. None of those bagged chips from the restaurant supplier. The salsa had a great deal of cilantro and was chunky like my girlfriend prefers, had the "wateriness" and and freshness I prefer. (However, still on the "too mild" side for my tastes, as is everywhere.) The salsa is is right between Los Asados and Las Vegas in taste and consistency. The sweet tea was great. The beans weren't my favorite, as I prefer them a little more runny, but to be fair the last few times I have ate at my other favorites, they too were more lumpy. The rice was good, but I've had orgasmic rice back home. My chalupa was good, right on par with everywhere else. The taco meat was the best I've had in a great long while, maybe the best ever. The enchilada was awesome, right on par with Las Vegas and Los Asados as the best enchiladas ever! The panchos were sub-par, I think it was their average cheese and their lumpy beans that bumped it down. My girlfriend loved her flank steak fajita, and she adored her mole. I tried the mole, and it was delicious (although I lack much experience for comparison on mole). They also provided our favored type of floured tortilla, rich and caramelized. One of the great tortillas, in my book. (I don't remember the other places with tortillas as good.) I also polished off her taco as she was full and their tacos can't be beat in the valley. I will be sure to visit again, as I am having a tough time sorting between Platillo's, Las Vegas, and Los Asados as "best in town". If you like these other two, give Platillo's a try. It might even be cheaper! Once again Harlingen has showed me to not judge a book by its cover: So many restaurants in the valley have taught me to not consider every eatery with a down trodden or plain appearance to be in cahoots with Montezuma. I've always liked "hole-in-the-wall", but also stayed away from places with holes in the wall. Yet, some of the best food in town is also very cheap. Cheap food, excelling in quality, served with great staff means the establishment has to give somewhere, so they give on decor plain and dilapidated establishments. Bonus: I learned that the stars on local restaurants are from a local news critic. So, watch for stars!

The service was amazing. It's a small restaurant so you better get here early. The food was pretty…read moregood. Will be coming back to Platillo's very soon.

The waiter was very over the top friendly and pushy which made us feel like we were dealing with a used car salesman. When we mentioned we were there for Happy Hour the friendliness then turned to dismissive as he told us we would need to sit at the bar for that. We were sitting at a table next to the bar and the bar was all high tops. Again, NO ONE else was there. I asked if there was any low top seating that would count as sitting at the bar due to having a condition that would make it painful to sit on a barstool. He unapologetically stated "No". I was not going to pay more for my food and drink due to geography, so I stood at the bar. As we looked over the menu the bartender, host, and waiter stood at the end of the bar talking and gossiping. It seemed very unprofessional since we were the only ones there and we could hear their entire conversation. The bartender was very friendly. We ordered the bowl of queso and the bartender asked if we wanted it loaded and we told her no. We also ordered the bistec and chicken tacos with no pico de gallo. When the queso came out it was a small cup full of what looked like onions, but probably pico de gallo. We told the bartender we ordered the bowl and did not want the pico. She took it back and then gave us another small bowl and it was topped with meat. She could tell we were not happy and asked if everything was okay, so we explained we had ordered the bowl, not cup and just wanted plain queso, but at this point we told her it was fine. When the tacos arrived the bistec were covered in raw onions. This was not listed on the menu and not something either of us wanted which is why we said no pico. We sent those back as well but told her we did not want them replaced. We split the chicken tacos and were not impressed so we didn't order anything else.
