Delightful, small restaurant on the edge of downtown. It has a small parking lot in back and a drive thru window on the side. We were greeted as we entered and offered a booth near the front door. Seating is limited but they offer a great drive through experience. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. They offer many of your Mexican food favorites made to order. The guacamole is amazing!!! We stopped in for lunch at Los Pinos with a group of six, which is a fairly large party for their smaller interior. Despite that, they were able to seat us with little trouble, which was a great start to the experience. We all ordered the crunchy tacos with rice and beans, and they did not disappoint. The tacos were packed with flavor and generously filled with meat--definitely not skimpy portions. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. Service was good throughout our visit, attentive without being overbearing. The space itself is on the smaller side, but it adds to the cozy, casual feel of the place. We ordered cheese dip; small portion size but the flavor was great. The wait staff said it was a new recipe. Overall, a solid lunch spot with flavorful food and accommodating service. Stopped by for a quick bite. Drive thru was a little busy but someone came out to take our order. By the time we got to the window our food was ready. Freaky fast! The guys had a chimichanga which they said was decent. The sauce is packed separately so you don't have soggy food by the time you get home. It was much appreciated. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was packed with meat and veggies. It was the best quesadilla I've ever had. At first I thought there was 3 pieces but I was wrong, they were stacked on top of each other. It came with rice too. Honestly, this is probably a shareable meal due to the amount of food. Do not come here, the damn avocado was pureed, and the meat tasted like some shit you would get from a Taco Bell, which would probably have more seasoning. I arrived around 8:47 pm and was in the drive thru behind a car. (The restaurant says it closed at 9pm). Once the car in front of me left i saw the worker turn all the lights off and close the curtains. Thought it was very rude. Hands down my favorite Mexican in Wichita. Service is fantastic - never had to for a refill even though they were busy. The place is a bit small. However I absolutely love the chicken and steak combo fajitas. The guacamole is fresh and the rice is so good. I come down to Wichita about once a month to play with the symphony, and every time I come I have to stop at Los Pinos. The restaurant is small, only about 6 tables. Family owned, and the hospitality shows it. The service is quick and very friendly. I always get the tacos, some of the best I've ever had. Didnt look like much but it was close to where I was staying for the night. I popped in after work and originally had a hard time understanding the parking situation. I think you park next door at the laundry place. My first impression was this is a mom and pop place and the food should be authentic. I ordered their 2 beef crispy taco dinner to go for $7.00. After I got home I couldn't have been happier. The tacos were just the way my Mexican grandmother used to make them. But the true sign of great Mexican food is how they do the rice. Negatives: not homemade tortillas, mild salsa tasted like pasta sauce ( tasty pasta sauce though). The guacamole didn't have a lot of flavor and it seemed like only avocados and onion. My regular pork street taco didn't have a lot of flavor but the al pastor pork was good. All my pork tacos had some big fatty pieces so maybe need to trim it a little first. Ditch the fancy $6 hipster tacos. You don't need anything but Los Pinos' al pastor and barbacoa tacos in your life. Greasy yet fresh and full of flavor and served with a slice of lime, I don't imagine you'll regret anything you order here. It took me a while to get in here, only because I grouped them in with Egg Roll King as being cash only--they're not! Once in the cozy green dive, I picked an empty booth and was offered a menu, which is simple and relatively easy for non-Spanish speakers like me to understand. My brother swears by this place, and so I tried what he liked: the street Barbacoa, al pastor and a simple shredded beef taco. One of my initial concerns was their heavy use of onions, as my husband hates onions and they make me feel bad. He requested his al tacos without, and while they kinda forgot to omit, we both found the onions pretty understated and complimentary to the flavors. I feel ok so far, and he didn't complain, so give it a shot. However, I give cheese addicts fair warning: if you dig cheese, they actually want you to enjoy the taste of the meat, so there's no cheese on the a la carte tacos. If you order the queso for dipping, you'll experience something akin to warm, watery Elmer's glue, so maybe don't bother. (But there are things with cheese with it, of course---I'll get to them eventually?) Personally, I say save $3 and relish the perfectly balanced salsa with your free chips, grab a taco or four and you'll have a great meal. Environment: The lady who was running the counter was nice, and her kids (adorable, polite and home for the summer) were helping out delivering water, so you know you're supporting local food at its best. They are pretty busy and there are only about 6 booths, so you'll spend about 45 min there total if you come in around peak lunch times; just something to keep in mind if you're in a hurry. The clientele was terrifically diverse, from soldiers to business people, construction guys to families, so obviously everyone in Wichita has been loving Los Pinos for quite a while.
