They don't have a sign and there is no cell service in the area. If you have trouble finding it stop at the little cabin with the red roof. That's family that will help you. It's only 1 mile from there. Hard to find but totally worth it. We will be coming back.

Parkview has all of the amenities like a general store, full service bathrooms that are kept clean, and daily trash pickup. The wifi is pretty unreliable but does work with a delay like satellite internet. If you have AT&T for cellular service, you will be fine in the Concan area. Everyone else will suffer the total disconnect from the virtual world, which you were hoping to get away from, right? I usually go during Father's day week which seems to be a very busy time. It's hard to get a reserved spot during peak times, so be sure to ask to get on a waiting list.

There's a small river that crosses through the camp site, but the tides were low and it didn't look like you could kayak or tube in it that weekend. It was nice to watch the ducks swim by though. I like that the campsite includes clean restrooms and showers. Each tent site provides you a bench, trash bin, bbq grill, and fire pit. Unfortunately, there was a burn ban in effect during our stay, so we couldn't light a wood fire. There was plenty of space between us and other campers, so it didn't feel cramped. One thing that could be improved is that the field is pretty rocky. We couldn't seem to find a spot for our tent that wouldn't drive a stone in our backs at night. The camp site offers kayak rentals, but it gets to be quite expensive. Visitors can also use the swimming pool located by the front office. If you're feeling hungry, want to grab a drink, or enjoy some entertainment, right by the entrance is a restaurant bar. They've got live music most nights.

When we got closer to the natural area, we had to take a dusty dirt road off of the main highway. It was very remote with a few houses along the path. Cell reception was non-existent so make sure you download Google maps prior to coming out here. At the "state park", the headquarters was pristine, modern, sleek, and brand new. They finished building it/January 2025. The first week of May, they didn't have any park gear such as magnets, car decals, stickers, but only had the option to stamp "State Park passport book". Also, if you want to check in from this location on Yelp, it won't let you since you're outside of Del Rio. Now at the river, there is a small restroom without air conditioning. The toilets look like ones from a camper or airplane. It was hard to tell if it was clean or not. The restroom smelt like an unclean musty outside world. There's plenty of parking alongside the river. When you get to the river, there's no benches or anywhere to store your belongings. The main part of the river is rocky and the water is icy cold. So cold, but it feels so refreshing in the summer heat. The water is translucent and there's fishes swimming in it too. The fishes will slightly nip at you, but they don't bite. I was a bit fearful of flesh eating amoeba tapping into my brain causing me to be brain dead, but thankfully that didn't happen to me. The water was so clear that I was able open my eyes inside. My brother and I stayed for two hours and had the whole river to ourselves. It was not the slightest crowded. The area is so beautiful. I love West Texas natural beauty. This natural area is the most underrated of the Texas state parks.

There are tons of cabins, very cute, rustic feel but clean and comfy. We stayed in a 4/4 house which was awesome, fully stocked kitchen, flat screen tv, direct tv, games, huge dining room table, The bedrooms all had their own bathroom and 2 queen beds. Great patio space with a grill and picnic tables. If the river was up we might have been super close but in the drought who knows. It was still beautiful and fun to hike around. We utilized the pavillion/kitchen/band space and smoker room, all were nice. There are some fun bars in town, Lost Maples and Garner but we definitely utilized the kitchen. The only drawback of this place was the reservation process. It was a little confusing and might have thrown some people off but the stay was so wonderful you forgot all about that.

Believe me if you are a stickler for how RV spots are fung shui 'ing then you're going to want lots C4-8. Oh and you are going to need some pretty heavy duty water shoes. The walk to the river and in the river has some pretty painful rocks without good water shoes. Oh and crocs wont cut it as we had to chase them down as they fell off in the river currents. Labor day week river was high enough to float or chill. And perfect temperature. Oh and if you have 5 Turtle Boxes linked up to party mode, they will ask you to turn down the jams. And they weee up late. FYI- Reviewing Shady Oaks Area, Campsite 3. (1,2,3 & 4) Were not nice But, 5,6,7 etc. are nice. Pro: Lots of shade for sure!! CONS: 1. Super Dusty, makes the inside of your tent disgusting & full of silt 2. No Fire ring 3. Area on a slant, no flat surface area designated for tents & it's all rock and dirt 4. Hard to tell what area is yours 5. Old Bathrooms NEED better ventilation in them they are so disgusting and muggy you can't get dry. (They have new bath houses that are better but further away from Shady Oaks area) They do have nice cold water though and amazing water pressure that will rip your new sun burned skin off! Now I know why this spot was actually available. It truly sucked, sorry to say but that was my experience.... I should have not waited so long to make reservations. Like always there's good spots and bad spots. The river access is great. Plenty of spots to sit and soak, but it's no Garner State Park; There are some deep areas, water seemed warmer than usual. But, ya know no one controls that lol. So back to camping: I was just disappointed since you have to pay so much for the area, you get nickeled and dimed... 10 dollars each additional tent per day, 5 dollars extra per person etc etc... for $536 dollars for camping I expected nicer I guess.... Maybe it was my expectations that disappointed me. Camp Riverview is very RV friendly though, lots of great activities for children and the night sky was amazing. Will I return as a tent camper, NO. Way too expensive, to be crammed between the neighbors and and sleep on dust.... Although the riverfront spots seemed better and nicer, maybe I would have been happier there.

The first time Thing One came to this camp, he lasted less than two days here. This wasn't because…read morehe was homesick nor because he hadn't been to any camp before. This was because this camp and staff (in my experience) deal poorly with those with mental health issues. Thing One has Asperger's Syndrome and has difficulty making new friends, and has social issues in environments where bullying is prevalent. During Thing One's only stay at this camp, he was bullied by other campers and became distant and disenchanted with the staff here. The director of this camp called me and asked me to retrieve Thing One via a voicemail. My frustration with Thing One's experience here stems from the manner in which the situation was handled. My son was asked to leave, but the children who bullied him were allowed to stay for the remainder of the camp session. Thing Two has come here for the past two summers and has had a mediocre experience here at best. While she is pleased with her counselors she has gotten, she is less pleased with the vernacular and behavior of the children who attend the camp (e.g., lots of cursing and not following the word of Christ). While the camp staff can't control what occurs in one's home outside of the camp, they can certainly control how the children behave when at camp. Each review of this establishment will be unique to those who attend this camp/retreat. Overall, my children's experiences have been less than stellar here. If anyone intends to send their child here, it is advisable that they carefully review the policies of the camp. Further, if the child being sent here suffers from anxiety or other mental health issues, this may not be the best place to send this type of camper because of the staff's inability to work with youth who fit into this category. Other camp attributes No technology is allowed during the camp session. There is no cell service here as the camp is remote. Campers must bring their own Bible for devotional. Digital camper mail may be purchased for a camper at an additional cost (aside from camp fees). As the camp is remote and the terrain is rough, it is advisable to use a truck or SUV to transport campers to the camp site.
