In fact I was glad I popped in on August 1, 2026. The lone staff member I worked with was great. I bought an annual residential license ($35). Along with the license, you're required to purchase a $4 Habitat Management and Access Validation (HMAV). To fish on U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM), you also need a Habitat Stamp ($10), so I got that too. New Mexico loves fees... "Transaction Fee: An online processing fee of $1.00 applies via the portal, or $2.00 if purchased at a physical retail vendor." So my grand total was $51. The shop was smallish, but jam-packed with great goods. Lots of bait. Hooks. Rods. Shirts. They also offer guided tours. And the employee offered nice fishing spot tips. There was a really nice trading post next door. Located on the main road in Eagle Nest. It can get fairly busy in the area - watch for pedestrians and lost tourists. Lol. This area was such a nice reprieve from the 3-digit temperatures in southeastern part of the state.

This was a last minute addition to my recent trip to Taos. I was looking for a short, easier…read moreexcursion on my last day in the area and the half day Orilla Verde raft trip was a perfect choice. This section of the river is calmer so its perfect for a relaxing float where you can spot wildlife and enjoy the grandeur of the gorge. You can opt to paddle a "funyak" on your own rather than go in the group raft. It's basically an inflatable kayak and my boyfriend and I chose that. It worked out well since there was only one other person in our group and they also chose a funyak. Check in is easy at the cafe in Pilar, about 20 minutes south of Taos and then you meet your guide at the gorge's visitor center across the street. Zac was our guide and he was a chill, cool guy but also focused on our safety and helped us navigate some shallow areas and one, small, class two rapids. He shared some stories about the river and its people and plant life. We got to see sheep climbing down the gorge to come drink in the river, a great blue heron and lots of ducks. It was a slow pace but that's what I was looking for. The funyaks were a little more challenging to navigate than regular kayaks (to me anyway.) They were lighter and seemed to spin and meander more. It was still a pleasant journey-just took a bit more concentration to paddle-especially with the two person boat we chose. Safety helmets and life jackets are provided and required. At the end, we shuttled back to the visitor center and our cars and Zac brought some apples, cookies and chips for the group. What a fun and memorable way to end my time in Taos. Los Rios is fun, friendly, easy to work with and I'd absolutely go again! Don't forget to tip your guide and also be ready to get a little wet, even on a more mellow trip. Considering this was the first time for two of us and my second time rafting, we all did well thanks to Brian's coaching and guidance. My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Wished we were able to stay longer. I would give this place 7 stars ( 2 bonus stars)

It was also private, in a lovely area and within walking distance of Taos Plaza. I needed some downtime, a quiet place to read or just be and maybe get a little writing done. It was perfect for all of those. This place is not a motel, but rather a vacation rental. So remember to play fair and clean up after yourself. Such a good deal -- you'll want to go back. I do.

We booked the month of July 2024 at Monte Verde RV Park in Angle Fire NM. First impressions the…read morespots are extremely close together, bring your own internet source, the Wi-Fi at the park is worse than dial up internet. During the time we were there we were not able to stream TV. The park is located where cell service is almost non-existent, so trying to stream over cell service was also useless. After we were there for a day, one of the 2 toilets in the restroom started leaking water on the floor, a lot of water. I texted the number we had for a contact because no one was in the office. Never saw anyone in the office the whole week. When we left the toilet was still leaking on the floor 5 days later after reporting it. We had to leave after a week to take one of our dogs to the ER in Houston. Also note there are several large unleased dogs that roam the property. One was aggressive towards our small dog. As I mentioned we had planned to stay for a month, so I had a Amazon shipment delivered to the Park office. We had to leave because of our animal emergency before the delivery arrived. I did receive Amazon confirmation of delivery. The Owner\Manager has refused to forward our small package to us. I have repeatedly asked, and they will not answer. So be warned this is the kind of people who are running Monte Verde RV Park in Angle Fire NM.
