I sent it back and they cooked it some more Then my husband found a plastic lid inside his bowl of charro beans. A whole lid just sitting in there. When we told the staff, all they said was "sorry" and tried to offer us some cheese dip like that was going to fix it. No real apology, no explanation, nothing. We went there to celebrate my dad's birthday, it was me, my brother, and my dad. there were about two or three tables seated already and three servers. one server sat us down and left us for 15 minutes. we then left because we hadn't even gotten asked about our drinks. then, while we were just about to pass the autozone on lapalco, i realized i forgot something at the restaurant. so we turned back and when i got there, ten minutes from the original time we left, the table had been untouched and there were no servers in sight. we were all really excited to try the place only to be disappointed. i'd love to talk about the food but we didn't get any. Not what we had hoped for. The exterior and interior are authentic mexican style, colorful & circus like, though the inside was a bit cramped, & the chairs uncomfortable. Our meals were very bland and not at all like most of the mexican food we have had and liked. I had the enchilada special & my wife had the fajita plate. Our meals were NOT bad, just not good. Our waitress was unpleasant, either mad at the world or something. The food is great. The prices are competitive especially given the quality and amount of food you get. The owner is very personable and always aims to please. The wait staff is right on time and very pleasant. I like the ambiance. they also have live music on certain nights and have a patio for cooler days and nights. I think you will be impressed and really like the restaurant. My friend went there a long time ago and didn't like it. It was a very long time ago. After one of the more recent hurricanes, this was one of the only restaurants open. She was reluctant to go. But we had no choice. Now, she almost lives there. She is moving and is going to really miss this place. Her fiance lives and Lake Charles. When they come into town, (she is going to be moving there, permanently) they go to see the owner at least one time no matter how short the stay. I've been to Los Tres Amigos only about twice a year in the last 15y. Not great, but usually satisfying. My kids like the Sopa de Mariscos. The guacamole is good, so is the standard red salsa and chips. The rice and beans are tasty and good. Today I ordered the enchiladas de queso with salsa verde and was very dissatisfied. The enchiladas were pan fried and very chewy, needing a knife to cut them, and the cheese used was shredded Colby-jack, also too firm. Not good and not traditional, and very greasy. I eat enchiladas de queso at most Mexican restaurants, and this is the worst version I have ever had. I let the waitress know and she asked if I had ever had them there before since they are always made that way. (I had, but 2 years prior and better). She didn't seem to care that I had an opinion about the dish and didn't offer to discuss with anyone. Los Tres Amigos is an average Mexican restaurant. That being said, there are a few redeeming qualities. The building was once a different restaurant, so the design seems a bit odd. While I cant remember exactly what it was, it reminds me of a breakfast restaurant. There is nothing wrong with that, but the layout seems a bit odd. One nice thing is the patio area. In front there are several tables with simulated palm umbrellas. On a nice day you could dine and have a great view of the traffic driving down Lapalco. One nice thing they do is the individual servings of salsa. Rather than bring out two filled bowls, they bring a glass container filled with salsa. This lets you decide how many bowls you want to make. This is a nice feature. Service was acceptable, but drink refills were few and far between. The food wasn't bad, but seemed rather average. With so many other Mexican options on the West Bank, I don't think I will be returning again anytime soon. read more

The food here is a solid three stars: not overly great, not bad at all, really just "meh". I got the chicken flautas which came with a side of rice and beans. It wasn't bad. Halfway through the meal, I was wishing that I had added a little spice to the rice and beans, as it was really kind of bland. The prices weren't bad and I would say that it's a good place for a fast hot lunch. I will say that "Amigos" does have an extensive menu and even the pickiest eaters are sure to find something that they will enjoy. Well I decided to hit this joint up today and see if it was any good. The people here were pretty friendly. The hostess that sat me was very friendly. So was the spanish waitress that took my order. I did notice they had a really good menu selection. I ordered the Chimichanga . It came with spanish rice and refried beans. The chimichanga was good and so were the refried beans. The rice was okay but nothing special. Before I even got my meal I was provided free chips and salsa which I think should be a standard at every mexican restaurant. The best thing was that there portions were huge. The decor was typical of what you would see at a mexican restaurant. They had quite a selection of beer and mixed drinks. Which I will have to check again on another date and time,preferably when I do not have to be at work the next day. Pretty standard Mexican fare, a solid 3.5 stars. They do have a pretty big, discounted, lunch menu which warrants the bump to 4 stars. This was our first visit tonight and guaranteed not our last. We visited because of a BOGO coupon. They started our dinner with house-made salsa that had the perfect mix of sweet, heat and lime. The food was fresh and delicious. Huge portions. I am a big guy and I eat well but I had to get a go box. Our waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly, prompt and professional. LTA is clean as a restaurant can be, it's cozy and comfortable. They have a 2 man mariachi band and football by the bar.
