Grilled chicken and Al Pastor tacos
    L'nya M.

My friends and I came here since it was on the parade route and we were just getting off of work. There was a line of course, but the wait wasn't more than 10 minutes to order. It was about 20-35ish minutes for our food to come out. They currently have a wristband that you need to use the restroom that's $20. They do not take tap, you need your physical card or cash here. I ended up getting 5 tacos, 2 grilled chicken and 3 Al pastor. My friend got 4 Al pastor tacos and my other friend got 3 chicken tacos, even though she told the waitress 4. We all enjoyed our tacos! There is currently a 18% gratuity fee, this is only if you're going there during this carnival season.

Tacos and beer is a vibe when the weather is nice. You can sit on the balcony and have a nice view of St Charles, it's perfect during Mardi Gras. The service is very slow though so don't come starving. The drinks are good and cheap and will give you a hangover if you consume more than 2 lol. The chorizo queso is really good and the quesadilla and tacos I've had have all been tasty.

So we did a taco Tuesday at this place and the $1.00 tacos had me in line, in the heat, and waiting patiently okay. I know what y'all doing because I been here before and you just want to get me fat. Well okay I'm on board, and an additional ten tacos never looked better on me. This is a cute little hole in the wall that has an outside deck with seating , and it gives some dive bar, at home in the man cave, with your own personal margarita access. The meat at this location is so tinder you just may over eat. The tacos were seasoned perfectly so if you wanted to add a little twang to it, maybe some sauce of choice it wouldn't be overpowering. It was perfectly balanced.

Don't waste YOUR MONEY. I ORDERED A kids enchilada $10 and it was like a small skinny taco, also ordered birria tacos and recieved 3 not 4 small ones with onions and cilantro in them instead of on the side. I Asked for utensils, lime and hot sauce and didn't get anything. Ridiculous for $30? Stay away from them.

Grilled Steak and Chicken street tacos

Leaving work the other day I was carving tacos. I've passed by many times and that day finally decided to stop. The service was the hostess that took my order was very nice and helped with my decision. She recommended the grilled chicken street tacos (not shredded), and I'm happy I listened to her. I ordered the queso with chorizo, grilled steak street tacos, and grilled chicken tacos. As I sat inside waiting for my order I didn't like the smell. This I feel was due to both bathrooms being right by the bar/dining room. If you go i definitely say sit outside. The steak street tacos were just okay probably wouldn't get those again. The grilled chicken was really good, and of course the queso was amazing! Everything was reasonably priced as well! I will be going back.

So this was my second visit and tried both a taco and the DUI Fries. First time I had Birria nachos. And because the Birria is exceptionally tender and plentiful I had to run it back on the DUI Fries. The fries themselves were crazy good. Almost like steak fries in that they're soft on the inside but these are crispy on the outside. The Taco Gabacho is just a crunchy taco. Single grilled chicken taco that was flavorful. Oh and the frozen margaritas are just right.

Great place for a quick and tasty meal when you are on St Charles. I sat at the bar and service was prompt, personable and the food was the perfect pitstop. I ordered the carnitas, al pastor and chorizo tacos and all were excellent. I also ordered a Pacifico, which they had on tap and was served ice cold. It was a very hot day, so I greatly appreciated this. I was actually quite surprised by the food quality and authenticity and will be back for sure. It exceeded my expectations for taste but is ultimatley a humble and affordable spot.

    Big Sur tacos (grilled fish)

Came on a Saturday night for some tacos and margs with a buddy and was seated rather quickly which was nice. We both started with a frozen classic margarita because we were pleasantly surprised by the price of $6 for a 10oz. Unfortunately you really are getting what you pay for. The frozen marg tasted incredibly watered down with very little flavor and no real taste of tequila either. We split chips and queso which were good, the chips were fresh and the queso had good flavor and consistency. I ordered the Big Sur grilled fish tacos which were also tasty. The corn tortillas were okay and the fish was flavorful, but nothing super impressive. $14 for three definitely felt excessive. The experience inside the restaurant was fine, a couple of TVs with sports on and limited seating. Overall, the meal was fine, maybe a bit overpriced, but I was sorely disappointed when it came to the drinks.

My friends and I stopped here on our way to the garden district on a whim and were pleasantly surprised by how great of an experience it was. Outdoor seating and bottomless chips and salsa is hard to pass up and the menu had a great variety of options. Our server James did a wonderful job keeping the chips and drinks flowing throughout the meal. Overall, would recommend to a friend and you should stop by :)

    2 Birria, 2 Chorizo, 2 Brisket
    Teira R.

Wanted some good tacos on a Saturday afternoon and stopped by. The brisket was my absolute favorite, followed by the chorizo and lastly the birria. The coconut blue curaçao frozen margarita was very delicious but barely tasted of alcohol. I felt liked I just consumed empty calories on it. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was extremely friendly and attentive. She made the visit very pleasant.

The food was amazing. The best shrimp tacos that I've had since being here. The music inside is poppin'! They have great customer service. Bahiy was very attentive and attractive at the same time! Kudos to you all!

So I'm here for Taco Tuesday. I waited in the line for about 15mins the line was long but it's understandable the tacos are only 1$ and they were delicious I had chicken & steak tacos. The ambiance was giving Mexico vibes. I'll most definitely be back soon.

Walking in at 1:30 on a beautifully sunny Wed, we fully expected a wait. Instead, our two empty seats beckoned to us like a pretty girl winking at us across a bar in college. Marvin has been promoted to Beverage Manager. He left his bar in very good hands. The two young dudes carrying his torch were great. Very friendly and well aware each time we finished our drink and needed a reload. They're well-trained in the art of concocting the Sazerac we love. Sitting for 2 hours watching the regular turnover of the precious seats at the Carousel is still big fun. And having a friendly chat with the constant turnover of strangers sitting next to us is part of the unique charm of the Carousel Bar. As we were leaving Corey the bartender let us know management is shutting down next month for a few weeks for much needed repairs & renovations so the Carousel can add another 50-60 years to its legacy.

There is a small bar bites menu - the Cubano was tasty but a bit overpriced at $18. The service was okay. We ended up getting water from our server that brought us food as the bartenders were too busy making cocktails. There was a jazz band playing on Thursday night when we visited.

I'm not here to argue any of those points. I will say this: expecting live musicians to perform for free until you decide whether they're worth paying is ridiculous. The cover is usually only $5...$10 max. If that's a dealbreaker, this probably isn't your place. Stay home and stream Spotify. Now... I have some friends in town, and whenever that happens, a Monday night trip to the Spotted Cat is basically mandatory. I've been coming here for years and years. Yes, it's super touristy now, but it still gives me the warm fuzzies every time I walk through those doors. So I'm presenting the "compliment sandwich" review. Never heard of it? You start with a compliment, slip in some constructive-ish criticism, then end with another compliment. Supposedly people receive feedback better that way. Let's see. First, the music. Outstanding. Chris Christy wasn't what I thought I wanted to hear until I actually heard him. I felt completely transported. Man, can that guy play the guitar. It felt kinda like gypsy music. Then came the Frenchmen Street Allstars. The last time I saw them, they had a different lead singer and, honestly, they kind of felt like a completely different band, aside from the phenomenal drummer. This version did not disappoint. It was a great mix of jazz and New Orleans standards. Both bands were great! **Now a note to management.** Great music isn't enough. The bar should be every bit as memorable as the stage. Forgive me, I didn't get the bartenders' names, so I have to describe them by physical traits. The first bartender, the guy with the mountain of curly hair, was friendly enough and made decent drinks. Later, another bartender with a short haircut took over and made the best drinks of the night. Then there was the bartender with the black and hot pink hair. She looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. She rarely smiled, her demeanor felt unwelcoming, and it almost came across as hostile. On top of that, the drinks she made were so weak I genuinely wondered if there was any alcohol in them. Seriously. They were that bad. Here's my philosophy: if you're going to be grumpy, aloof, or have some other off-putting trait, you'd better make a mean drink. Years and years ago there was a bartender named Curtis who wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows, but that man could make a cocktail. I didn't need him to smile because the drink did all the talking. If the drink is mostly soda, though, friendliness becomes a lot more important. Unfriendly and bad bartending is a double whammy. She must be somebody's child or partner because I can't think of any other reason to employ a bad bartender. I hate to belabor the point, but the drinks aren't cheap. Cheap and bad I can take. For another comparison, there's another bartender there, I'm pretty sure her name is Chris. She's been there for years. She's all business. Maybe a little surly. Who am I kidding? A lot surly. But she's a character. More importantly, she makes a great drink. That's the kind of personality that somehow fits the Spotted Cat perfectly. Now let me end with the final piece of "bread" on my compliment sandwich. The doorman deserves his own review. That gravelly-voiced "Welcome to the Spotted Cat!" is part of the experience. Then he absolutely hammers that stamp onto your wrist. Somehow you don't even mind because you know what's waiting on the other side: incredible music, a fun room, and one of the best nights you can have on Frenchmen Street. Just don't let the bartender with the pink and black hair make your drink.
