Cool upscale Andersonville bakery where you can get homemade baked goods and surprisingly good coffee amongst other coffee beverages. I also have tried their cold brew which is very good. The cream cheese muffin is damn good. There are a few rabies inside where you can set up and do a little work while enjoying their offerings. Out back they have a really nice patio seating area I discovered on the way out. I'll be back to try Lost Larsons again and more specifically their patio. Seems to be a welcoming area of all walks of life and very accepting. Lost Larson is very popular. A friend who lives in Chicago recommended this place because it's one of her faves. I can see why. The danishes and other bakery items were really good. If they have the cake (can't even remember the flavor) but it had white icing and very fresh tasting....get it! Several weeks ago I was watching the series finale of Billions. Chef Ryan had returned and came bearing a tray of cardamom buns. Wags bites into it and loses his mind. That completely set me off in search of one as I was jonesing for one real bad. Did a little research and came across Lost Larson. I placed an order online for pick-up. I am so glad I did that because I went online the same day to check for more of the buns and they were sold out. I placed an order for cardamom buns, cinnamon roll, afternoon tea cake and lingonberry almond cake. The cinnamon roll and and lingonberry almond cake were good, but just didn't tickle my fancy. The cinnamon roll was more croissant like in pastry texture, with a dollop of frosting on top. It was very brown in color, which for me suggested it had been in the oven too long. But based on other reviews I have read, I guess that is the why they look. The texture threw me off as it was not like a typical pastry dough. While it looked like a croissant, it was a little more chewier than one. I don't much about Swedish pastries, so I am taking a guess that this is their version of a cinnamon roll. The lingonberry almond cake was hard to pin down in terms of the flavors. I didn't really get any almond flavor, even though I could see the sliced almonds. Not being familiar with the taste of lingonberry. I was picking up a somewhat tartness at the end, but it was not the predominate flavor. If I had to say what that was, it would simply be sweet. The winners for me were the Afternoon Tea Cake and definitely the Cardamom bun. The tea cake was brown in color like the cinnamon roll, but it was not a chewy, nor did it have that texture. It was sprinkled in sugar and was good when it was slightly warmed. The Cardamom bun was without a doubt the best of the bunch. This had more of what I expect of a pastry dough texture. The flavor was dead on, but not overpowering. The Doctor had a piece and was puzzled by the flavor, but loved it, As it was his first time having one, he couldn't pin down the flavor. For me, it is a hard flavor to describe, similar to red pop from the Southside of Chicago. You can't put it into words, but you know what it tastes like once you have had it. I usually tell people to think of allspice. This bun was the clear winner for me and I will be returning to get more. There was rock sugar and a sugar glaze on the bun, which provided just enough sweetness for me. Price-wise, the pastries are somewhat on the high side...8 pastries almost ran me $70. I would say I would not have a problem paying for the Cardamom bun, but would think twice about other items. I strongly recommend ordering online to make sure you get what you want, which is what I did. I will be returning for those buns for sure, and the tea cakes every now and then. read more

I lost my streak of visiting "Lost Larson" Bakery due to various reasons: COVID-19, gotten busy with children, lack of free time and etc. My first time in the Andersonville location was a positive one. I was impressed with the princess cake. The cafe, from what I remembered, was quite busy during a January morning. Seating wasn't ample but it was comfortable enough to dine in. They had quite strict COVID patron policy in regard of ordering and pickup. I did manage to stop by once yet I wasn't able to snatch anything to eat... In the year of 2024, I still missed my princess cake. Of course there was a similar item at an I*ea food court, the one at "Lost Larson" tasted better and it was just nostalgic to me. I actually was looking for another bakery to see if it was available on Doordash and ran across LL. I immediately convinced my family to place an order so that they could give it a try. It turned out they didn't have my princess cake (tears...). It was alright after I browsed through the rest of menu and chose the cheddar & kale scone. My mom also selected a savory option: spinach & feta croissaint. It was risky to order coffee via a delivery platform, but I craved for a cup of cold brew and I was able to add on the oat milk. Even though delivery took a bit to arrive, the tastes of bakery items weren't affected as much as I anticipated. The scone was filling and the aroma was intoxicating. I warmed it in the microwave for less a minute then the crust was back to its glory. I told myself I should have ordered an additional spinach & feta croissant because the sesame seeded crust was addicting. I even scraped the fallen crust and picked up the dispersed sesame seeds inside the container. "Lost Larson" might make you shrink the wallet. However, the money you spent on the food wasn't going to be a complete loss. At least my experience with LL delivery via Doordash was a good one. I would still prefer to visit their Andersonville shop if I get an opportunity to do so. read more
