Unforgettable experience....as usual! First off, we have been patronizing this campground several times a year since the new owners (John and Lisa) took it over a few years ago and made countless upgrades and additions to make this campground one of the best in NH. We stayed here for our usual (3) nights in late August 2023 at our usual (brook front) site (no I won't say the site number... its ours LOL) with my wifey and our "son" (dog). I am constantly amazed how dog friendly this place is. Most notably the welcome he receives upon check-in and the obvious love of animals from the staff. Most notable, this past trip a male employee (maintenance) I believe (sorry I don't recall your name) went above and beyond by showing our dog so much love, making it a point to stop and say hello to him in passing and even bring him his own bag of dog treats on our last night (which he devoured before we got home). The campground has (3) amazing dog (ambassadors) which make the stay even more enjoyable. First there is Lacey, a quiet yet reserved doggo with an obvious sense of class and sophistication. Then there is Tyson and energetic lab who will be your best friend if he sees you with a ball. Last but not least there is Rocky the rottweiler who has been the "framed" by some bad reviews as intimidating (LOOOL) he is an amazing, well trained, kind, asset to this campground and it is your loss if you find him to "Intimidating" to say hello to as he is passing by sitting shotgun on the chrome wheeled chariot (golfcart) that he frequently "patrols" the campground in. Most notable in some negative reviews this campground has rules! and has security! for a reason! The rules are simple (DRIVE 5 MPH!) It's common sense! You wouldn't speed through a school zone so why a campground with countless kids and animals! And yes, if you speed you may get told to "slow down" please don't take offense to this like your being personally attacked. It's the employees and owners taking a stand to ensure their guests are safe! The second rule is "Quiet ours are 10pm to 8am". If you are making excessive noise during this time, yes, you most likely will be spoken to by security. Again, don't take offense to this "outrageous" rule. This campground is surrounded by (2) beautiful brooks and the last thing that needs to be heard is excessive noise in such a great location. We can honestly say in the several years we have been coming here we have never had a noise issue. However, if you do have an issue there is a convenient phone number you can text where your issue will be addressed promptly. Everyone here is either guests or friends which shows by the extent the owners (John and Lisa) go to ensure you are having a great time. The few negative reviews I have seen are mostly because you didn't give them a chance to go the extra mile for you, or were just plain rude or entitled. We have personally seen the owners and staff go the extra mile multiple times! As far as the campground itself its situated in the heart of the white mountains close to many major attractions (Clarks Trading Post, Kancamagus Highway, Storyland, Santas Village, Flume Gorge, Polar Caves, Lost River Gorge) to name a few. This campground is wooded! Yes, there are no wide open spaces it's a wooded campground in the heart of NH and there are trees, winding roads and each site is unique. The owners made it simple to plan your visit by having posted photos of many sites online as well as provide information while booking explaining what the features are to each site and what type of equipment it can accommodate. There are rustic (primitive) sites, full hookups (water, elec, sewer) as well as gorgeous "Glamping" cabins and more rustic simple wooded cabins! The (3) restroom/bathhouses are always clean and welcoming. The onsite laundry room served us well after we were ill prepared during a NH summer downpour! During the day (especially weekends) there are activities such as games (Human bumper ball!!!) as well as "Fairy walks!" Ice cream socials, arts and crafts and our personal favorite the "dance parties!" featuring the fairy lights (see attached photos) during the evening the area around the bridge is lit up by countless laser lights which reflect off the trees to create a truly unique experience. Each time we arrive our site has been immaculate and ready for us which is another kudos to the amazing staff. After writing this review, I feel like I have not touched the surface of topics I could talk about regarding this campground. This campground has a lot of potential, While the campsites themselves are well maintained, with nice river views, the overall campground is not. The bathrooms are old and dirty, with walls and doors that clearly need to be scrubbed of built-up grime and feces. The showers are quarter-operated, but unreliable and some without temperature control. The amenities listed online are also misleading. The "playground" is really just a small baby jungle gym, and the area that should be a playground is a complete waste of space. Across the street, they have a so-called swimming beach but it is nothing more than a mosquito-filled pond with a sunken paddle boat. The train is nice and freshly painted, but the swing set is in terrible shape and really needs to be removed before someone gets hurt. The water wheel advertised on the website doesn't work and doesn't look like it has in quite some time. On top of that, there's no WiFi service. With some updates and proper upkeep, this place could be wonderful--but as it stands, it's disappointing compared to what's advertised. read more

I take back everything I said in my last review. Stay far away! Not sure if owners changed but it felt like being in a prison camp. The owner would probably benefit from anger management classes or behavioral therapy. She is a micromanager and constantly in your face in an inappropriate way. Don't expect not to be spoken to if you are minding your own business and following rules because before you know it..she's riding up in her cart (patrol car) bordering on harassing you. Our recent stay at Lost River Valley Campground in Woodstock, NH, was unfortunately not what we had hoped for. We were a large group, and based on that, the staff recommended their primitive group site. Upon arrival, we quickly realized that half the site was unusable. Due to prior rain and a lack of proper drainage, a large portion was a complete mud pit, making it difficult to set up tents or use the space effectively. Another major concern was the location of the site itself -- across a main road from the rest of the campground. There's no crosswalk or lighting, making it not only inconvenient but also unsafe, especially when walking to the bathroom at night. Speaking of bathrooms, the closest facility had non-functional showers, so we had to trek further into the campground to find working ones. It's worth noting that the employee I spoke to didn't seem to know that the primitive site doesn't have its own bathroom -- which was a bit surprising. The swimming pond was also a letdown. It's not really swimmable -- more of a small fishing hole -- so if you're coming with kids expecting to swim, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. What truly concerned me, though, was the handling of quiet hours enforcement. One of our family members was staying in a cabin and arrived just after 10 PM. A male staff member came by to ask them to quiet down, which we respect -- quiet hours are important. However, he returned shortly after, visibly agitated, and warned that if they didn't quiet down, he'd call the police. What was most unsettling was that he stood with his hand resting on what appeared to be a firearm or some form of weapon on his belt, tapping it in a way that felt intimidating and unnecessary. This behavior crossed a line and felt threatening, especially considering there was no confrontation or aggression coming from our family member. After the weekend, I provided this feedback directly to the staff at the front counter. Unfortunately, the two women I spoke with did not have anything to say about any of the issues. One of them did appear to be writing notes on what seemed to be a scrape of paper. While the area is beautiful, and we were looking forward to a fun, peaceful camping experience, the lack of preparedness, poor customer service, and the alarming interaction with staff left us very disappointed. I hope the campground takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements, especially around safety, communication, and staff training. read more

No wifi or cell reception. Also, was told only 1 car at site and was charged $60 for 4 days even though we had plenty of room on our site. Excuse was that the fire Marshall said only 1 car per site but we contacted surrounding camp grounds and they all allowed more than 1 car per site. Greed is the issue here. Be very cautious with this campground if you have a trailer. I have a 25' Toy hauler 8' wide with a 1 ton crew cab pulling it, the roads to the sites were pretty tight and the sight they had us on I couldn't back on because of how narrow the road is. We went back out to the front desk and they wouldn't refund us our money, informing us that "no one else has had a problem getting in"...lol ouch. thats fine my ego can take the hit. We left and drove down the road to Maple Haven, fortunately they were able to squeeze us in, they told me they just had someone ahead of us come in for the same reason. read more

Did not like the site we had. The office closes at 5:00pm and does not reopen till 9:00am they have a number to text to if you have a problem or question. I texted themat 5:15pm when I got there and never got a reply. The bath house that was in the section we were in was somewhat clean but had a strong septic smell. The showers did not work in the men's or ladies section. We walk around the campground to see if we had just got a bad site, it was the worst area of the campground but the rest of the place was in need of some TLC. Would not stay there again. read more

I was checking out campgrounds in New Hampshire for next year's vacation and this campground won't even let you look inside because of "insurance purposes." How do you invite campers in when they have no knowledge of what the sites look like, capacities, general cleanliness and appeal, etc when they won't let you see it? The office person had no knowledge of such things either and was very rude. I went to 6 other campgrounds and they were so gracious and inviting. read more

This campground was simply amazing. I am from Michigan and I spent my summers camping in the woods of Michigan. Lost River felt like I was home again. Each campsite felt like it was completely enclosed by nature. You could hear the river, smell the fresh air and my grandchilden simply loved every moment - even in the rain! My husband and I used one of their glamping cabins with AC and heat, private bath and refrigerator. At our age, it was simply perfect. Another family member used a site with hookup for her camper, and my other daughter's family had a site next to them for their 2 tents. And to top it off the staff was SO kind and helpful for our large family...which included a special needs granddaughter and 5 others under the age of 7. Safe, secure and simply perfect. We will definitely be coming back to this Shangri-La. It is truly a place set back in time where you can go to just *live in the moment* and forget the cares of the world. I'm really surprised by negative comments. We stayed here twice this year. Once during Memorial Day weekend and this past weekend in late September. First time we had a tent site. This past weekend we stayed down the road in one of their cabins. My wife prefers camping but accommodated me by renting a cabin this one time. There is something to be said about having running water, a shower with hot water and a very effective and easy to use hvac system in the what seemed like brand new cabin. When we did camp out here of course I was forced to use the "facilities". They were working and clean, no complaints. The location is great, the staff was friendly and helpful. The store had a good selection of everything. Reasonable prices for a camp ground. My only complaint was the quality of the ping pong table. But, frankly most places we stay don't have one at all. read more

Not sure where all the bad reviews are coming from. This campground was clean and was very respectful of boundaries. We were really concerned with the reviews saying the owners come around and use condescending tones but these people must have been really obnoxious and disrespectful themselves. We had a great time and as long as you follow the rules, you'll be left alone to enjoy your stay. The wooded campsites give a lot of privacy and the brook right next to the sites are so nice to sleep next to. The area is beautiful, the river is beautiful, but the amenities are lacking. Washers and dryers half are broken, the bathroom in the front smells like sewage 75% of the time, the bathroom more into the campground is cleaner but both always seemed to have a stall out of order. The pond was unswimmable both times I went this year, and the boats you can rent are in pretty bad shape. It has so much potential to be great but just misses all of them. But I love the cabins, and I go because we love the river and the owners and people around there are all nice. read more

We have been camping here twice per year for the past 5 years and would never want to go anywhere else! The entire campground is so clean, including the campsites and the facilities. The owner, Lisa, is so accommodating and friendly, as are the rest of the staff. There's even a small pond for fishing, kayaking and swimming just a few miles away. read more

Our family reserved the group site #300, back in July 2023, for this past Columbus Day weekend, at the cost of $727. (Yes, that's a lot of money for a tent site) This site is discribed to accommodate 16 adults with their families and does, not include water hookups nor a Santi-can. Upon arrival, we found that the space is at the end of a dead end road with no room for parking cars, never mind for setting up pop-up canopies for rain cover and kitchen areas. There is hard top under the dirt, so you couldn't even stake in your tent or pop up. Being "seasoned tenters" it is not even close to being considered a "Group Site". We we're provided with 2 picnic tables and one fire ring for 16+ people. SUCH A JOKE!!!! Note: We had more than 16 adults this weekend so a double site was also purchased at the rate of $420. So the total amount we spent on the weekend was $1147.00 When going to the Office looking for 2 more tables and at least one more fire ring, we were told by an assistant that they didn't have the man power to bring them over. (The second time we asked, we were told they didn't have any extra) After finally being face to face with the owner on Sunday night, I had asked if she was available Monday morning for a conversation about my concerns. I was told that "nothing she would say was going to make me happy, so no, she would not meet with me. I'd also like to mention that the husband/owner/safety guy goes around after quite time, 10pm, with nite vision glasses looking for who knows what. How creepy is this????? After hearing that these owners kick people out mid stay for disagreements, I held back my complaints until this yelp review. I do not recommend this campground now that is under new ownership. (we have used this campground in the past, and it was always good) I feel they are money hungry and that we got financially raped. read more

I'm giving 2 stars because the river is beautiful and I love that part.Everything else to do with this campground is terrible. The facilities are non existent, no place to swim or activities. The bathrooms are disgusting. There is clearly a septic issue as the stench coming from the building at all times makes it practically unusable at times. When we mentioned this were told there is no smell and implied we were crazy. Which leads me to customer service. The owner rides around on a golf cart with an actual security guard uniform and harasses people for little reason but when you have a question or complaint he gets really defensive and is no help at all. read more

Lost River Valley Campground is a great place to stay. The staff are friendly and accommodating which really made our stay relaxing and worry free. Not to mention that there are great places to hike and explore, like Lost River Gorge or the Polar Caves. Sabbaday Falls, The Flume Gorge, and Cannon Mountain.And the list goes on. All a short drive from the campground. My family and I are going for our third trip to the campground at the end of the month. We're staying in one of the " Glamping Cabins, " up on the mountain across from the campground. There's nothing better than sitting outside enjoying my coffee with a beautiful view of the morning sky glowing from the rising sun! Security came over and spoke to us about our radio being at 4/50 at 9pm on a Saturday night but then the very next night (a Sunday at that) allowed the site next to us to have 9 tiki torches, extremely loud music going, and a fire lit until 3am that all accumulated into a campsite that could have been seen from space. Saturday night they (the owner dressed up in all black as a security guard with what appeared to be weapons, an attack dog, and all) even unknowingly told a member of our party that was walking back to our site that they were "keeping an eye on that crew" and to "let them know if they had any issues with us" in regard to us. They must have thought he belonged to another site and basically told us he was looking for a problem. In reality we were 3 normal- acting and quiet siblings there with their partners, one of whom was heavily pregnant. Yet they turned a blind eye to the party in the RV at the entrance to the place who were clearly there for an extended period and were repeatedly pressuring us to join their "dance party" up at the entrance of the place, which was obnoxiously loud and also kinda sketchy. And there's no way the owners didn't hear this "dance party" from their shop while they still went out of their way to "check up" on us regularly. This "security guard"/owner was clearly rounding our site often, seemingly looking for an issue, mainly accompanied by a large and intimidating looking dog. To be fair to the pup, I'm not sure the intimidation came from the dog itself (a rottie I believe) or rather the explicit, often rounding of just our area with them in the golf cart, paired with the talk with the member of our party. We felt unwelcome and over policed by someone who isn't even a policeman, but rather the owner of the establishment we had paid money to. It seems that unfortunately a place that was once our childhood oasis has turned into a primarily trailer/cabin park and they clearly cater to those individuals over the tent campers who pay way more for what they get. This new owner should decide once and for all what they want out of this place before collecting a cent from someone again. To say we were disappointed after anticipating our return due a several year hiatus from this place would be a definite an understatement. read more

Reviews must be owners friends cause the place is run down. Bathrooms always out of order , laundry broken, sites not cleaned / mowed. Need maintenance forget it, they wont respond. Pictures and 5 star reviews are not accurate. There is no river to enjoy unless you have a river front site. Owner said to cut through peoples campsites to access the river . Roads are not graded . If they put you 1 miles away at the hill side camping there is no bath house. Basket ball court and playground are run down and if you have e little the playground is just a stones through from the highway. read more

This is 1 one of the dirtiest filthiest campgrounds I ever visited there's nothing convenient about it for a family The dirty stagnant water they call a pond Old playground old everything they got some new cabins built but everything else is SHIT stay away also plenty of bees and flies. 12 miles away is a good option at Moosehillock a real family campground that treat you like a guest night like a trespasser. I have been coming to Lost River Valley Campground since I was about 5 years old and continue to do so. The sounds of the babbling brooks that straddle the campground and the deep woods are incredible. I have many fond memories of Lost River Valley Campground and continue to make more memories with my now older kids and grandchildren. The owners and staff have been incredible and feel like family when we stay. Due to military service, I moved around for 25 years, however upon retirement and returning to NH, this was the very first campground that I returned to. You are not stacked in fields with some trees behind you, or back to back. There is separation of sites. Throughout my travels, I have always used Lost River Campground as the gold standard when comparing other locations. read more

The view is gorgeous, the place is very clean including the bathrooms, the staff is so very sweet and nice and you can't beat the price. My only complaint is their parking policy...1 car per site or its extra...even if it fits, but they do their best to accommodate with it. Overall...I definitely recommend this to all campers! I've Been camping here for over 20 years and can honestly tell you that after this past week I will never go back. Last year when the new owners bought it, they were rude and everything was very unorganized. Giving them the benefit of the doubt my family and I booked a trip for this past week. Horrible! Worst than the year before. When we arrived we were immediately pushed out the door to check in outside, the energy from the female owner was if she was mad or not pleased that people were checking in. She did not make us feel welcomed at all. Our site was small and on the corner, which was fine but it was almost as if our fire pit was in the road. Putting any chairs around it was very difficult and we felt as if we had no privacy. The "activities" they have were painting a $1 box from the dollar store and they were charging $10 per child! It was not worth it at all and very much a ripoff. The only other "activity" if you want to call it that was it was the owners daughters birthday and she drove around on a golf cart playing music, my oldest daughter came over and told me they were selling single balloons for $10. There is literally nothing for the children to really do at this campground. Their park and "swimming hole"(a pond you can't swim in) is across a very busy main highway. At multiple times during our stay the male owner was driving around with his dog off his leash, he proceeded to tell us that he can't leash him because he needs him to work, he needs to be able to have him protect him if necessary. The dog is a very large Rottweiler, and although I'm sure he is friendly he is intimidating, especially to small children. The fact that the owner said he needs to be able to use him gave me a very uncomfortable feeling the rest of my stay. Lastly, I was heading to the store and noticed a women crying I overheard the female owner say " I can't even deal with you right now I need to get my husband" when the husband arrived he basically just bombarded her telling her that she was going to get kicked out for crying and being upset. He called her entitled and was yelling in her face. She was clearly very upset and he was a big man, it was not okay the way he treated her. This experience is the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life camping. We camp multiple times a year and I will never be back here. I will never recommend this campground to anyone. My group of 10 will not go back again. Long list of fees on top of site cost. Parking, children, check in fee, extra adult.... Then after camping in the rain all weekend We were harassed to leave the site because we were a few minutes after check out...sure it took longer than expected to pack up because everything was soaked! After leaving the site then they told us we were beyond check out time and couldn't use the bathrooms and should leave the property. We knew the original owners and even with the new owners, this campground is a safe, family-friendly campground with lots of great campsites. What an amazing week! This was our first time here. My husband and I rented a cabin with our two daughters. The new owners are very nice and have alot of knowledge of the area. They had some great restaurant recommendations. They said they will be renovating the bathrooms over the off season, can't wait to see them next year! So peaceful. The beach is cute, they offer paddle boating and kayak rentals for a good price. Everything in their store was reasonably priced. Playground is very cool with pirate ship, Train and swing sets. So close to Franconia Notch, so much to do in the area. Beautiful scenery. Highly recommend!!! read more

So disappointed. We went to Lost River Campgrounds to find our perfect Campsite after finding them on their website, so we went there to check it out and make reservations, but instead of allowing us to see the campground, we were told that we couldn't go inside, unlike all the other campgrounds we went to in search of our next destination that welcomed us and gave us full access and maps to find our way around. While I understand it's a good policy to protect the guests at campground's, I don't understand why we were not invited to drive through the campground to choose our next vacation. They were the only campground that would not allow us to see what we would be reserving. We drove three hours to get there only to be totally disappointed. Smh read more

It pains me to leave a negative review for this campground as I am all for supporting small family businesses and always try to give others the benefit of the doubt. However, there is no excusing what we endured here from the owner, Lisa. Anytime there was an issue, Lisa was very unprofessional and spoke rudely to us; she was not interested in solving the problem, but was more concerned about being right. The first instance we had conflict with Lisa, it was partly our fault and we apologized for it. She told us that she tried to contact us prior to the start of our vacation to make check-in easier- we never received any calls or emails. We were a large group (20 adults, 6 kids), but we had 7 sites. We could have done a better job of communicating and coordinating with our group as they unknowingly broke the rules about one car per site and the campground speed limit. After we apologized, Lisa did as well and though we didn't feel welcomed due to her aggressive and rude tone with us, we chalked it up to a miscommunication. We had hoped this would be our only instance of conflict. Unfortunately, it was not. The next day she came to our site yelling at us and telling us she was going to call the police because we had multiple visitor cars parked at a site that wouldn't move, even with warnings. We never received any warnings, this was the first time she spoke to us. We went to investigate for ourselves and found out we only had one additional visitor car parked to unload groceries. The other car accidentally received a visitor's pass instead of an overnight pass, which was Lisa's error. When we went to correct it with her and get the correct pass, she blamed her mistake on us not answering her phone calls (that we never received). We told her we would not be returning to her camp again once our reservation was done due to the stress she caused us due to how she spoke to us. She told us if we felt that way we could leave right then and literally told us to get out of the office. She additionally refused to refund us the money for the extra visitor car she was charging us for, despite it being her mistake. We have been camping for many years, with groups larger than this, and have never had any issues with any owners. Lisa did not know how to handle her stress and resolve a situation while speaking respectfully to others. We regret choosing this camp for our adventure simply because of Lisa. The rest of the staff were very pleasant and respectful with us. In addition to the rudeness from the owner, this camping was not cheap- something we could have overlooked had the owner been kinder. They charged for every little thing- even the showers cost money (which was not advertised on the website). If you have more than one car per site they will charge a fee for the car and the adult driving the car, even if the adult fits in one of the two tents permitted at the site. The playground that we specifically picked a spot near for the children in our group was only a bouncy house and a small piece of climbing equipment (pictured below- to be fair bouncy house was blown up as long as it was sunny). The showers in the women's bathroom began to pool with water as soon as you started them. The men's bathroom only had 2/4 showers working the 3 days we stayed there, in addition to frequently dirty toilets. Previous negative reviews spoke of the prison-like style, we ignored them thinking people were being dramatic. They were not. Do yourself a favor and go 5 minutes down the street to Maple Haven Campground. The owners were understanding, respectful, and we had a much better time there the previous year. read more

Hubby and I booked in April, in early June we purchased a new camper 10 feet bigger and never thought to update our previously booked site with that info. Fast forward to this past weekend 9/15-9/18, came in at night, had some issues getting in our site but was able to after a few tries. Leaving today was a different story. After 45 minutes of trying (and patience wearing thin) I went to the office to seek out the owners for assistance. They both came down to our site, it took a while and they were so patient while helping us move this beast of a camper out of a tight spot as we had been completely blocking the roadway. So aside from the location being beautiful and the campground well maintained, the owners were so kind and amazingly helpful! We will definitely be back!! read more

Great campground, it does have nice camp sites in the woods and can feel secluded which is great. The river adds a nice soothing back ground noise as well. If you're looking to just go camp and enjoy nothing else this is the place for you. The amenities were kind of a joke. The paddle boats and kayaks they promote using are in a pond as small as my town swimming pool. The park was dangerous for small toddlers. Their were nails sticking out of the playground equipment and it wasn't very clean. The tennis courts are not in use and neither are the horseshoe pits which we were most excited about. We would come here again but with the expectation of just sleeping and hanging at the camp site. read more

I went camping this past weekend. I grew up camping here so about 20+ years. Unfortunately it got bought by new owners 2 years ago. I will not ever go back. The owners are not kind at all. I had a slight issue with my reservation and they threatened to kick me out and not refund me. I have never in my entire life had to deal with someone as unkind as they were. They only see money unfortunately it's not the nice family environment I grew up with. read more
