Three of us ordered eggs benny--2 regular ones and one Korean. We found all three unremarkable. One of the orders had a piece of eggshell in it. The restaurant is quite comfortable, the entire roof is open with a very large glass roof. We chose to sit at the bar, and it was a great choice, the chairs are super comfortable! I ordered a passion margarita, they did not skimp on our alcohol, we can definitely taste it! And to top off the experience they were doing a fun trivia that's interactive, and handed out pencils and score trivia cards. We ordered the truffle fries for dinner with lobster rolls, and I am floored! Omg so delicious! The rolls were loaded with real lobster meat, and the bun was so buttery and delicious! While you pay up for the vibe and downtown location, Lot Six offers a tasty meal to make the price worth it. Stopped by for dinner and got: - Fresh Oysters and Baked Oysters: A bit disappointed that they weren't that special in quality/taste, just a bit bigger. The baked oysters also had this weird tomato sauce which I didn't think went well with them. - Lobster Mac and Cheese: Now we're talking. While the serving size was small-ish, the mac had just enough cheese not to be overwhelming, and there were good chunks of lobster meat. - Blackened Salmon: The quality of the salmon was outstanding, the couscous bed it was on brought out the char on the fish, and I liked the pops of corn that added sweetness to the dish. - Chocolats Brownie Sundae: Decadence in a bowl. The homemade chocolate and vanilla icecream were really good. Got a corner table by some books, which added a quaint vibe to the meal. Service was friendly and quick (thanks Nathan). Four of us visited in late February 2020 as part of the Dine Around Nova Scotia event. I booked about ten days ahead via the OpenTable app, having plumped for the restaurant based on the advertised menu. On arrival, we were told that they weren't running with Dine Around, thanks to some work that had been done on the kitchen that week. Not a good start. After perusing the menu for the night, we decided not to try for somewhere else at such short notice and were shown to our table in the cozy and well appointed small dining room off the bar. The other, much larger, busier and noisier room is in a very nice atrium just down the passageway. I'd say the noise level there is on a par with the Bicycle Thief's big room, and would make an excellent venue for a larger group. To the food and drink. I started with a variant on Dark & Stormy and then went for the mussels with chorizo. This was very good. No closed shells, the liquor wasn't too salty and the portion size just right. For mains I chose the halibut and once again, no complaints. A decent amount of fish and the sauce just right. We shared a bottle of Aussie Pinot Noir at the standard 400% mark-up, which was OK, though I'd have preferred a Shiraz. Now to the next issue. The dish chosen by both the ladies wasn't available. The alternatives chosen were well received, but you really shouldn't have to "make do" early on a Saturday night. Then, when it came to dessert, only one was on offer, again thanks to the kitchen issues. Service was fine, the restaurant is very attractive with nice alternative experiences available depending on your mood, prices aren't at all excessive, especially given its prime location and I would be very happy to go back for another go. However, the no-notice cancellation of the Dine Around menu and serial unavailability of certain items detracted from the evening. Absent these problems I'd be looking at 4.5/5 at least. read more

On the Thursday before (24hrs) someone from management sent me a text cancelling my reservations stating they had a wedding booked that night. NO ONE bothered to clue in to this in the entire 3 weeks leading up to our reservation. Very disappointed as we were unable to book our group anywhere downtown on such short notice during Halifax Fashion Week. After foolishly trying to get a spot in the atrium late on a weekend night, my wife and I came back on a Monday evening - no problem at all getting a spot. That said, there was still enough people there that it wasn't awkwardly empty and they were certainly at least covering the costs of having the lights on. Sadly, I'd never been in the atrium back when this was Pipa/The Brown Hound. It's probably always been a great space, but Lot Six has surely stepped it up a notch. With the requisite Edison bulbs giving a cozy lighting to the place, and the classy leather bar stools at what must be the best stocked bar in the city, this is a great spot to have a tipple or two, and a bite to eat. Naturally, we started out with a round of cocktails. Th cocktail menu is divided into thematic groups - innovative, seasonal, sparkling, etc. It's a hearty and interesting list, but I wanted to start with what I know - the classic whisk(e)y cocktails. Having heard a friend's recommendation, I started things off with an Old Fashioned, which is typically made of bourbon, bitters, sugar and a twist of orange peel. It was a fantastic drink - boozey but still easy drinking and smooth. We got an order of the frog legs and pork steam buns to start. I'd never had frog legs before, so I was excited to try them out. They came with edamame, lardons, bok choy kimchi and peanut curry. I enjoyed the battered bits of frog legs on their own; they had a super crunchy batter and the meat itself was fairly non-descript, with the texture of dark meat on a chicken - a bit wetter, and less granularity than chicken breasts. The flavour was along the same lines - not quite chicken; it reminded me of alligator meat but without the slightl hint of fish. The mixture on the side was definitely the star of the dish with the salty edamame pairing well with the lardons (which were more like bacon than the typical small hunks of pork that make lardons), a little bit of funk from the kim chi and another layer of flavour from the chunky peanut curry. The steam buns were another winner, putting Lot Six up 2 for 2. The pillowy, slightly sticky buns were filled with very tasty pork and the pickled apples were a unique addition with a great crunch. For the second round of drinks, I went for a Manhattan. This classic whisky cocktail packs a big punch, being made solely of alcohols - whisky, sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters. The only two times I've been late for work have been because of capping off a night with a few rounds of these bad boys. However, tonight was much more laid back than those, and it was a good drink, if not as well balanced as the old fashioned. They seem to use very heavily smoked cherries for the garnish, as it was unpalatable to eat at the end of the drink. Our next order of food consisted of a batch their frites and the bahn mi beef dip. The frites came served in a cute little bucket, with roasted garlic mayo and tamarind BBQ sauce for dipping. Barbecue sauce isn't a traditional fry dipping sauce, nor am I a big fan of the typical way-too-sweet commercial sauces that are out their, but the tamarind sauce was well balanced and delicious on the fries. And you can't go wrong with roasted garlic anything. The bahn mi wasn't the biggest you'll get anywhere, but it packs a lot of flavour in a small sandwich. Served on top of a covered bowl of broth, with a fried quail egg poking out of the sandwich, it's a sight to behold, even in the mood lighting of the atrium. Taking the cover off the broth, the fragance of beef and star anise hits you and you know this certainly wasn't an afterthought. The sandwich itself was fantastic - perfectly cooked hunks of steak, the yolk of the egg, tangy and crunch pickled veggies, this was big flavours in a small package. Teamed up with that delicious pho broth, you won't be regretting the price tag on this sandwich and you'll be left wondering when Lot Six is going to start serving up pho itself. Service was super friendly and knowledgeable, what you'd expect for a spot like this. I don't think this place would be in my budget for tying one on every weekend, but it's a hell of a great place to come to, at least if you can actually get in and beat the crowds. read more

There's no better seafood than local seafood! We came by for their oyster happy hour and ordered 12 oysters from 3 local areas (2 in Halifax, 1 in PEI) for $20 CAD. Additionally, we ordered two cocktails for your usual cocktail price. The oysters were shucked in view of us and pleasantly presented on an ice platter with horseradish, lemon slices, and a honey-based dipping sauce (had a specific name, don't remember it). The platter was arranged with 4 oysters coming from each location. I swear you could taste the different locations. The staff explained to us that all of their oysters were farm-raised and that they are served within 3 days of receipt in order to ensure freshness. The drinks were also great. I had a cocktail named the Workhorse and I believe my partner had one called the Hitchhiker. My drink was phenomenal and the bartender said that it was not frequently ordered. Quite the shame considering its taste! Personally I wasn't the biggest fan of the hitchhiker; it was a bit too sour/bitter for me. Normally my partner isn't too into that taste either, but he seemed quite ok with the drink after letting the ice melt a wee bit. Would definitely recommend stopping by for the happy hour deals! read more

This was the first time travelling to the Maritimes so we knew we had to order seafood. The first item we were looking for was OYSTERS! This restaurant was the first and last resto of our trip to satisfy our oysters craving. It was so good that we came here twice. The first time around was the best because we got to sit in the main lounge area where the bar was. It was a great atmosphere, upscale feeling but casual and chill. Service was just amazing. Our server was so friendly and made sure that our first meal in Halifax was pleasant. My bf and I ordered two dozen orders, mussels with frites and crab cakes. Oh my, everything just tasted so good, especially the mussels! They were mainly from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Totally fresh and literally melted in your mouth as your slurped it! The crab cakes were my second favourite, it was a small portion but full of real crab meat thinking that it would have been the fake crab meat stuff. While lot six offers an amazing and breathtaking ambiance with an out of this world location, live jazz music and amazing service and drink choices. The food is simply disgusting. The Bacon ''burger'' served with a pile of bacon instead of a beef pattie is so oily, blend and disgusting, how can anyone choose to put this on a menu leave me speechless. This is what i imagine a student would cook with the leff over from last week, quickly in between two classes in a microwave, but hey! Lets charge $14 for it. The cheese bits were tasteless, the white BBQ sauce chicken was overely sweet from overuse of shallots and overall boring and too simple for a restaurant. Thank food the bartender had amazing customer service. This restaurnant need a new chef, because it is a shame to waste such an amazing location with this level of cuisine. read more

I had heard so many amazing things about Lot Six that I knew I had to check it out. My expectations were high. Everyone I know that has gone there prior to me told me how great it is. Also, considering the top-level cocktails that are emerging in this city, I was expecting a lot. I had a good first impression. The hostess was warm and welcoming and showed us quickly to the bar where we sat. The ambience was great, the bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly. Everything was great.... but I have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed with the menu. Sure it's things that you don't normally see on other menus in the city, which is great, but I, personally, wasn't over enthused with anything that was listed, both food and drink wise. Having said that, everything we did have was fantastic! When it came to eating, my husband and I ordered the Chicken Fri and the Green Salad to share. For drinks, I ordered a mango drink that I can't recall the name of and the husband ordered an Aggie Smith. No word of a lie, mine tasted like a light (airy, not low-fat) ice cream - it was delicious! Both of our drinks were, and I was throughly impressed - I wouldn't have expected anything less from this place though. Now the food, the salad was amazing. Full of flavour, light, delicious, crunchy, fresh - all the words you would want to describe a salad, but I had never had one that was as good as this. Seriously, I would go back just for the salad. The chicken was tasty, I loved the blend of spicy with the adorable little biscuits, but be warned, it is small and if you plan on ordering it, you probably want to order it with something. After another round of drinks, I had my first oyster - which according to my husband was very good but for someone who is new to the seafood world, I had nothing to compare it to. Nothing against Lot Six, I probably wouldn't eat them again. After all is said and done, the food was good, the drinks were solid, but what really stands out for me at Lot Six is the service. One of our goals during our trip to Halifax was to eat as many fresh oysters as we could so that brought us to Lot Six and their Oyster Happy Hour. We had tried to visit the previous night but the restaurant was closed for a wedding, although no signage was posted on the door. Imagine our embarrassment when we walked in, only to be told by a bride and her full bridal party that the place was closed! Nevertheless, we persevered and returned on a Sunday night. Five stars!!! I had this restaurant on my bookmark list for a long time. Finally, I had dinner with my friend at here tonight. Since both of us are big fans of oysters, we started with a dozen of oysters. Half of them came from NS, and another half came from other place( I didn't catch the name of the place). They tasted really good. My friend and I loved those came from NS more. For main dish, I ordered beef cheeks, and steak for my friend. Beef cheeks was wonderful! Tender and tasty ! I enjoyed my every bite (=w=) The steak also was amazing! Perfect median rare! At the end, I had brown sugar cake as my dessert. My friend ordered blue cheesecake. Thumbs up for both! Love the sleek renovated look of the entry room with the custom oyster display behind the massively expanded bar. The drinks are top of the line with talent poached from other high-end cocktail bars in Halifax. Ask your server for recommendations and you will not be steered wrong. I love that there are a variety of alcohol amounts in various drinks and they list the precise amount so you can decide if you want a 3 oz super strong martini or something on the lighter side with 1.5 ounces of booze. We tried 4 different cocktails and the winner was definitely the "Old Cuban" (or something really close to that name, a very strong mojito with angostura bitters, such a great combo!) The menu is innovative and light, lots of contemporary and experimental flavour combinations. They sell oysters in lots of 6 or 12 for $3 each, with a mignonette accompaniment that changes nightly by the sound of it. Oysters were from PEI and NB last night. The middle dining room area looks good but doesn't have as strong a personality as the front room so I would recommend calling ahead for reservations and seeing if you can get a seat at the lively bar or front tables. They don't plan to put a patio out this summer even though they have the space for it. Not much has changed with the large glass atrium area in the back, but there is so much potential there so I really hope they develop that into something new as well! read more

Visited Lot Six with a large group of friends over the weekend and I've rarely be so upset by a restaurant experience or felt the need to leave a 1-star review. The same group of friends, mostly from out of town, had brunches and suppers over the weekend at several different restaurants, and this was the only bad experience. With the exception of my Aviation, which was pretty good, the rest of the experience was appalling, especially the service. A few of the 'highlights' include: - Waiter missed a wineglass when pouring red wine, resulting it some of it running down the side and onto the bottom rim. Instead of wiping the wine or getting a new glass, he simply handed it to my friend, getting wine all over her hand and sleeve. - Food took over an hour to arrive, and when asked, the waiter informed us that he had placed the order 45 minutes after taking it from the table because the kitchen was backed up. Another large table ordered after us and was already finished before we even got our food. - We weren't offered appetizers or bread of anything to snack on while waiting for our food. - My food (mac and cheese and pork ribs) was mediocre. - When the waiter was clearing the table, a knife slipped off a plate and onto my friends leg. Ignoring the fact that it was a sharp object, it was also covered in sticky pork rib sauce. He didn't offer a napkin or anything and barely acknowledged it happened - Paying was an absolute nightmare. After receiving the bill, we then waited at least 15 minutes for him to come back. Eventually a person at our table settled the entire bill, even though we intended to pay individually. We just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. - Due to the above, one person only noticed afterwards that she had been double charged. Initially, she ordered a salad with her meal, but was instead served fries. When this was mentioned to the server, he offered to bring a salad. Normally, and in every other experience in every other restaurant I've been to, the restaurant would not charge for the salad as the mistake was on the part of the server, not the client. The place might be better for smaller groups of 3 or 4, but anything larger than that, I'd suggest going somewhere else. read more

We went here for my mother in laws birthday. It was a great experience. We had oysters and drinks on the patio first. The patio isn't super nice because it's in front of all that construction but that's not really their fault. Oysters were fresh and served in a cute wooden box filled with ice. The drinks all had fresh flavours. We ate dinner in the back room. The roof had a huge sunroof. So beautiful. Our server was great! We had a charcuterie board to start. A lot of ingredients were local and there were a lot of creative flavours. Very good! Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had a steak that was amazing. Everything was great. I can definitely say this is now my favourite Halifax restaurant. I've eaten here a few times recently and I've come to see why this is one of the top restaurants in Canada. Not only are the bartenders incredible and make the best drinks, they actually take pride in what they're making and you can see that. Normally I've only come here for drinks but recently I've finally been able to try the food and wow, delicious! Best oysters I've ever had and they have a 'chef' creation oyster everyday and last nights was oysters topped with bacon... what more could you want in life? They also had happy hour drink specials so we ordered a cucumber based cocktail (which was excellent) and a local beer. The happy hour prices made the whole experience seem like we were getting great value. Got 24 oysters for $40. The restaurant itself is really gorgeous inside. We ordered the sticky ribs off their regular bar menu and thought they were just ok. There was lots of meat but it could have been seasoned much better. Left much to be desired. Had a fabulous time in this very beautiful restaurant. The low rating is because the steak was over cooked and didn't come with any side; the lobster ravioli was amazing, but you got 5 pieces and no fillers; the sticky ribs were fabulous and came with loads of frites; and the jerk chicken was hot and spicy (too spicy for the guest who ordered it). We ordered 2 jugs of Berry Mojitos - the best part of the whole meal! We finished by sharing 2 blueberry "cheesecakes " the size of a muffin. Lot Six had always been on my list of "To Try with my Dear". We went during the Happy Hour on Friday. The atrium would not open until regular time at 6. We sat at the table area with dim light. People kept coming in. I'd say the place is fairly popular. 6 drinks and 6 snacks to choose from. I went with Cherry Cobbler and it was just right for a light drinker like myself. I also had a sip of my partner's "something like mojito". It was bit too dominated by the flavor of mint, which was not my cup of tea. Snack was mussels with a slice of bread. There was also bacon in it, making the sauce richer and more delicious. I just wished there had been more bread :P Service was good. The young lady who brought us food and drink was really nice. Despite all the construction mess going on nearby, I like this place and would love to try the atrium in the future~ read more
