I walked into this place for a late dinner- they close at 10 but their kitchen closes at 945. The place was spacious, with neon lights and floral decor, with a small, but perfect sized bar, where I sat as a solo diner. I called ahead to make sure they made their own michelada mix, which did not disappoint. It was more on the tangier side but delicious nonetheless. I got their chicken mole which came with white rice, different than any other mole dishes I've had before. Their white rice was some of the best I've ever had- to say the least. The refried beans were delicious (they served me tortilla chips with salsa and refried beans as soon as I sat down). The mole was a good sauce, certainly on the spicier side - hot and strong spice favor. Everything was good, I could see myself going back for a michelada and trying other things off their menu next time. Okay, so at first, I wasn't planning to write any more reviews for the foreseeable future. Just because I wrote one review recently didn't quite mean I was warmed back up to Yelp just yet, and if I'm being honest, I'm still not. Between a removed review causing me to go missing from Yelp for 6 months and losing my trust in posting my reviews here on Yelp, I let go of my Elite status and am now back to square one. But after driving my mom to Manor Inn so she could attend an event there, I decided to look up spots around there since I did spot that their wait times were going to be extensive. That's when I decided to go here and see what was good. Honestly, after I encountered the parking situations in both places and went into the restaurant, I knew I had made the right call. I was seated immediately, given a menu, and even given some complimentary chips, salsa, and a plate of refried beans sprinkled with some cheese. Now, refried beans and salsa are not foods I would normally eat because my food palette don't usually like those items. But with these tortilla chips, they were both very flavorful, and given this was complimentary, they were all the more appetizing. I should also mention that my waitress, Sayda, was very nice and prompt whenever she came to my table. Answered any questions I had, and had no problem with my orders. So from the menu, I went with the Tropical Twist, their Calamari for an appetizer, the tacos de barrio for dinner, and even ordered churros to go so I have something for when Winter Storm Fern dumps 80 million inches of snow tomorrow and into the next day. Oh, might I say, everything was delicious! I knew I couldn't have alcohol because I still had to pick my mom back up and then drive back home to Waterbury, but that Tropical Twist was a nice consolation if you can't have alcohol. The fried calamari was also another great choice. That dip it came with was so addictive it was like crack, and the perfect thing to pair with fried calamari. If there's one thing I would say could be improved, it's that they could be just a smidge more liberal with the fried coating. There were some pieces that had some small spots that had no coating at all, but nothing too major. For the tacos, MMM MMM GOOD! The meat was tender and flavorful, the presentation was great, and the consome paired deliciously with the tacos. It's definitely worth the $20 they cost. The churros were also pretty good. I can't say they were the best churros I ever had because the place that made my favorite churros ever closed down back in 2024 and had since become a dog grooming place, but if not for that, then I might make a case for that statement to be true. The chocolate syrup it comes with is divine and a nice sweet treat to finish off the night. I was in and out of the place in maybe a slight smidge above half an hour, so I would say all-in-all I'm glad I came. The place is also well decorated, bathrooms are clean, and the ambiance is inviting and casual. Now, I may still need to gatekeep a few reviews here and there, but this place was a step in the right direction in getting my confidence back in Yelp. I would definitely come back here again whenever I get a chance, and I highly recommend coming to check out this place if you're in the area. Oh, and for comparison's sake, it was an hour and a half between when I was finished here and when I could finally pick my mom back up again from Manor Inn. Take that as you will. read more

Service was good and the food was good but the night we went they had a mariachis band and they were good but way too loud for the venue. They had a microphone but didn't need it and the trumpeter was piercingly too loud, I came out and my ears were ringing and we saw one couple come in for dinner and once they realized how loud the music was, opted to order takeout instead. We came on a Saturday night and there wasn't a seat in the house! It was busy but we only waited a few minutes to be seated. We started it out with their homemade chips, refried beans and salsa. The chips were crispy and the salsa was fresh! We also got the Loteria Tacos ($21.99) Five corn tortillas with your choice of meat (chicken, steak, al pastor, carnitas, beef), topped with cilantro and onions. We tried all of them! We paired this with a side of rice and beans. I'm not a fan of a refried beans, but it was great to dip the chips into. We also tried the Margarita flight ($21.99). We tried jalapeño, passionfruit, mango, and hibiscus, but had many flavors to choose from (peach mango raspberry, strawberry, jalapeño, passion fruit, coconut, guava, hibiscus. blue curaçao). As much as I like a margarita, the only flavor that was really distinguishable was the jalapeño. Otherwise, the other ones were just sweet and fruity. Had a good dinner at Loteria! The skinny margarita was actually really flavorful and I enjoyed it. The chicken fajitas were great too. I didn't have the chips and guacamole but my partner did and she liked them, mentioned them tasting home made. Our server was attentive and helpful. One thing to watch out for, is their birthday celebrations. I dang near had a heart attack when they came out with their noise makers and percussion instruments. If I had a bite in my mouth, somebody would have had to perform the heimlich. The recipient seemed to enjoy it though. read more

Our first time dining at Loteria and we can't wait to visit again! The chips salsa and beans that started us off were seriously amongst the best I've had at any Mexican restaurant. This gave me high expectations on the rest of the menu. I had Pollo con mole and it was delicious. A good amount of spice and layers of intricate flavor. My wife had the torta sandwich with skirt steak and the meat was well seasoned and tender. A bit loud inside with only a few tables sat during mid/late afternoon. Place is okay but I would only come if you are extremely hungry. The menu is expensive. $20 for a burrito. I only wanted a bean and cheese burrito and they wouldn't give me a kids size and wanted me to spend $20 on beans and cheese. Ended up not eating but my boyfriend loved the fajitas. No a la carts items so if you want a taco, only can get 4. Same with enchiladas and everything on the menu. Sucks because I can't eat a lot at once and it would be a waste. Loteria has become my go-to spot for Mexican food! The portions are huge, and the food is always delicious. I ordered the nachos, and the serving was so big that even with three of us, we couldn't finish it. The burritos are massive, and I've also tried the enchiladas and tacos--the meat is always well-seasoned and full of flavor. Their dessert options are a great way to end the meal. I'm a gin girl) to start - OH MY - most delicious drink I've had in a really long time. The chips and salsa are delicious. Fresh homemade crunchy chips with awesome flavor. The salsa was interesting on first bite - a little ?sweet? But I found myself going back for more and more. In addition - they serve refried beans on the table which was a delightful treat. We started with guac for the table. It comes with fried pork and a chipotle drizzle - both a great added flavor combo but the quac was lacking a little flavor. It needed a bit of cilantro, finely diced red onion and finely diced jalapeño. There was plenty of lime. I added salt at the table. I had chicken fajitas for dinner. All the ingredients were super fresh. They're not served with rice and beans. And again - there was barely any seasoning on the chicken which made it sort of bland. Just had to do a little doctoring up at the table - asked for hot sauce and more salsa. Despite some of the food being under seasoned - it really was delicious. The family that runs the restaurant is so kind, and they went above and beyond to provide attentive service. All of the food was delicious! The molcajete and Uber margaritas are a must-order. What a great new restaurant! There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in this area, but something about this one is special. The quality of the food, the excellent service, and maybe that complimentary tequila shot after dinner put it over the top. This was an absolutely delicious meal from start to finish. We started with queso and you just can't go wrong. It was perfect with some little diced jalapeños mixed in. The al pastor tacos were perfection - so flavorful with a hint of sweet pineapple. And the rice and beans on the side - yum! They had a great dessert menu but we were too full from our meals. And I can't forget - the mango margarita - so yummy and HUGE! Thankfully, I got the small, which was fishbowl sized. The large was over 20 ounces! On a Wednesday night there were a few tables with people but it wasn't packed. Great Mexican food. We used to enjoy a spot on Queen street, however, thier food has gone downhill recently. This is our 2nd time here and will not be our last. Birria tacos are exceptional. Beef is fall apart tender. Consume is flavorful and not overly salty. Tortillas are crisp yet still pliable... very fresh. Tortilla chips are brought to the table with the obligatory salsa, which is of the better ones I've had in a while. The bean puree they serve with your basket of homemade, handcut totopos is next level dipping. Warm and satisfying and topped with a dusting of cotija. Rice is simply seasoned and nicely accompanies your meal. Tortillas are homemade and they use different colored masa and mix it up. Blue corn on my daughters taco, yellow on the birria, a mix of blue, yellow and white in the totopos basket. Fresh and delicious. Drinks are generously poured. Tajin rimmed margs and some Mandarin Jarritos for the kids. Perhaps the best/ most authentic Mexican in Southington? Give it a try! read more
