    Friendly place

We were very impressed with the food and service here. It was our first meal in this 1 yr old eatery. They do, unfortunately, use Canola oil, dang. But they were more than kind switching it out with olive oil and butter for every dish we ordered and were meticulous about changing us from refried to black beans to avoid even pre-made Canola-laden food. Kennedy was a caring young man serving us, and his mom, Adrianna, backed him up to assure our complete satisfaction. This is a family place. I asked if the kitchen crew were also their family. Adrianna smiled and said, "Different family, but yes, family." We enjoyed a top sirloin steak with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled (olive oil) onions. So delicious. And my birthday hubby had Cameron (shrimp) al mojo (garlic sauce), which was wonderful to his last spoonful of mojo sauce. We topped off a perfect dinner with the best flan ever, swimming in caramel and generous and so beautiful. We shall return.

This was my steak and cheese, chimichanga, accompanied by refried beans and dirty rice. This was absolutely off the charts delicious!

Saturday night and this place was hopping! We were promptly seated, and a carafe of ice water, and some corn chips with salsa were promptly placed on our table. The chips seem like they came out of a bag as they weren't warm or feel like they were homemade. The salsa was decent, a little watery, and was very cold. Refrigerated salsa kind of puts up a red flag for me like it was store-bought. I may be wrong, but that's the feeling I got. So now that all this is on the table, I got to take in the decorative format of this Mexican restaurant. It is not bougie at all, it is just so local and welcoming. The order was placed for a margarita, for my guest, with that jalapeño tequila in it, and mango. There was a salt like substance around the rim that looked like brown sugar! I ordered a Coca-Cola. Hey, I'm driving! My dinner guest ordered a beef chimichanga, and I ordered the steak and cheese chimichanga. Both were accompanied by refried brown beans and rice. Also accompanying this beautiful dish with guacamole and sour cream. The chimichanga was topped with a delicious red sauce, that had a decent kick to it. This was quite possibly one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever had. But keep in mind, I haven't had that much Mexican food in my many years on this earth Service was simply amazing. This must be a family run restaurant. Everybody on staff took part in making our visit enjoyable. This restaurant is so traditional, and I love it! After going to La Joya Mexican Kitchen in Simsbury and TJ Burrito in East Granby, this one topped them all. For dessert came fried ice cream. I've never had this before. This experience was just so so. I didn't like the coating on top of the ice cream. It was like kind of sticky coconut. Maybe there was some caramel in it. Anyways, I scraped the coating aside, and enjoyed the delicious vanilla ice cream inside. I love this place. The vibe is perfect! If you're ever in the Granby area, this restaurant is located in an unassuming plaza north of the rotary and center of Granby. It is on the right hand side, heading north . You have to really be looking for the plaza. The total for two dinners, one margarita, one soda, and the fried ice cream came to $72. With the $16 tip, I was quite satisfied at $88. I really look forward to coming back here. If you are ever cruising the back roads and need a good lunch, consider this place. Loved the experience, the vibe, and the service.

So my wife found this location based on a Yelp recommendation. We decided to head there for dinner. Some backstory. We're both from Southern California, and since moving to CT we find ourselves continuously searching for flavors that we know and love. Generally I wasn't expecting much, except the other Yelp review mentioned they're from Arizona and the flavors are legitimately good. We arrived about 6pm for dinner and were given a seat right away. The restaurant is nicely decorated with colorful chairs and paint. A large portrait of Frida Kahlo hangs in the corner, greeting everyone as they enter. The staff were quick to greet and find us a seat. We were hungry and started with fajita nachos, which when I took my first bite, I looked at my wife and said, "these are surprisingly good." Nachos are a favorite of our son's, and generally not something I'd order, but these were tasty and had a slightly smoky flavor to them chicken that made them pop. When our entrees arrive, I knew we had found a gem. My shrimp enchiladas had an incredible richness of flavor; topped with the tomatillo salsa, the shrimp underneath were grilled over an open flame and maintained that slight smoky flavor. The tortillas were soft, the cheese a nice rich flavor without dissolving into a pool of oil as other restaurants do. The rice on the side was quite good, but the refried beans were puréed and so smooth. I could eat those all day, as they weren't crusty and congealed, but a cream that complemented the dish. I had to try a fish taco (Southern California, remember) and the fish was lightly battered, very bright and very crispy. No heavy batter here, no oily feeling that will slow you down. The fish was surrounded by very fresh veg and topped with a crema Mexicana that tied it all together, in a soft tortilla. A plate of three will run you about $20, I had one for I think $6. My son had a dry chimichanga, a dish that is one of his favorites thanks to Deadpool's recommendation. He thought their version was really tasty, worthy to bring his other Deadpool-loving friends to try. He chose to fill it with pastor meat, but while the menu described it as being made with pineapple, he didn't have any and was slightly disappointed as he was looking for that flavor. My other son, not satisfied with polishing off the chicken fajita nachos, ordered the same as a burrito, which he ate a majority of before becoming full after eating half. He's a growing kid who routinely will order two giant-sized Jersey Mike's sandwiches, eating one at dinenr, and the other for the next day's lunch. When he said he was full, I raised an eyebrow. My wife had the pastor burrito, which with the tomatillo sauce on top, said it reminded her of a really great chili con carne. After these amazing flavors, we had to try a dessert together, and although they had a fresh apple crumble and carrot cake, the boys hadn't yet had fried ice cream, so we got that. A scoop of cinnamon ice cream surrounded by a delicious cookie shell, with little blackberries in the orbit like tiny treasures. If I had any criticism, it would be that the dessert needed more blackberries to help with the flavor and balance. All in all, a great meal and end to the day. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We'll be back soon to try some other dishes, but those shrimp enchiladas will call to me... and I might need to revisit. For Yelp purposes, of course. Six stars if I could award them.

I have had a few recent experiences here, that hopefully are rectified by some criticism here. First was an interesting dinner with my family. We had a server, "Kennedy", that may need to learn waiter etiquette for customer experience. He made a few errors- let's call them that- first was being audibly annoyed at a special order request. Then later in the meal I had asked for a refill on my soft drink. He replied "Hold on, hold on, I will get it in awhile". Not a typical response by any means. Tonight, I was with my son dining again here. (The food IS great). Just two of us. Not busy. Ordered a chicken chimichanga and got a beef. Our waiter just kind of shrugged off her error as an oh well. There was no offer to really rectify the situation. My suggestion to the restaurant- change the menu. Instead of the confusing chimichanga menu section, with one listed as Prime Steak with chicken listed as an option, just make a section called chimichangas and offer beef, chicken, fajita chicken, shrimp etc, and then choose a sauce to top it. Tonight unfortunately annoyed me. Not sure I am going back any time soon.

"Baby what a big surprise Right before my very eyes" (Chicago) We had lunch today at what by my count, is the fifth and newest Mexican Restaurant in the Farmington Valley. We were surprised at how fantastic it was. Las Potras translates into "the fillies" in English, so that explains some of the images of horses we saw in the beautifully decorated dining room and on the front over of the menu. Go check out some of the dining room and furniture colors- a real rainbow of bright colors and wall décor. Las Potras took over the space occupied by the old Toni Ann's, tore out the U-shaped counter and some of the booths and did a stellar redesign. Our lunch started off with a carafe of ice-cold water and an addictive bowl of fresh tortilla chips with a red salsa with tomato and onion chunks. Our lunch order was two items. Number one was an $18 Grilled Chicken Quesadilla, described as "large flour tortillas stuffed with bell peppers, onions mixed cheese, garnished with lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and cilantro lime cream". It was a large portion with six wedges chock full of chicken and all of the promised goodies. Number two was a $25 order of Octopus Diablo, described as "tender octopus seared in a skillet and then tossed in a rich, fiery Mexican style sauce made from dried chiles mixed with mushrooms". It was served with Mexican rice, beans, lettuce and tomato. The octopus slices were tender and flavorful, as were the mushrooms and fiery brown chili sauce. It was a beauty of a dish. Our lunch ran $46.16 after tax and before tip, and we each took home half of our dishes for another day. We were very impressed with our first visit to Las Potras.

Fantastic experience yesterday at Las Potras Mexican Restaurant in Granby. Las Potras is located in a small strip mall in northern Granby, not far from the border with Massachusetts. The interior is colorfully decorated, cozy & inviting. We both started off with Margaritas. The Margaritas were "strong", as is typical with most Mexican restaurants. But we soon found out that Las Potras is not your "typical" Mexican place. I lived in Arizona during the 90's, and the Mexican cuisine in that part of the Country is 2nd to none. Since moving back to Connecticut, I've basically been subjected to sub par Mexican food. Las Potras is the REAL DEAL, the menu is extensive, and the food is authentic. Everything we had was fresh & tasty. We started off with the Fresh Guacamole & Pork Belly appetizer. My wife was unsure if she was going to like this appetizer, but she loved it ! The guacamole was so fresh & flavorful. Pork Belly was off the charts. Our meals came out a short time later. I had ordered the Al Pastor Chimichanga, and my wife went the Chicken Chimichanga. Both chimichangas were overstuffed with meat (mine seasoned pork, hers chicken). I absolutely loved the green tomatillo sauce on my chimichanga, and the sautéed pineapple infused with the pork was awesome. Spice level on these chimichangas was perfect, we were extremely happy with our meals. The rice was fluffy and the refried beans were the best I've ever had anywhere. Las Potras is a family owned business, they obviously take pride in the food they serve. Service was also stellar, everyone was very friendly & attentive. We are both looking forward to our next visit there, Las Potras is truly a "hidden gem", it's as good as it gets for Mexican cuisine.

Always a special treat to dine at Las Potras. Service is beyond spectacular. Food is cooked to perfection and everything is fresh and made to order. I always order the Ayutlas burrito with steak, fresh guacamole and tomato salad. Ambiance is like being at home.

After moving to the area from California, I've been going to different Mexican restaurants. Until yesterday, when I finally found the one; most authentic Mexican and delicious food. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and cozy. The staff is professional, friendly and attentive. I had the camarones al ajo and it was perfect. Also perfect was the margarita, which is made from scratch with real (fresh) fruits, and quality tequila (not the cheap headache producing ones). I'm so happy I found this place!!!

    Margaritas and guacamole!

We were the only ones in the restaurant today at lunch. Our food was promptly served and my mom really enjoyed her Miguel's Tacos, however my chicken enchiladas left a lot to be desired. They were smothered with cheese that tasted like plastic. The sauce tasted like watered down tomato paste. The meal didn't taste right and the visual of the cheese piled up on the side of my plate made me feel queasy. It was even sunken into my beans. My gut was telling me to just stop eating altogether.. On top of this, our waiter, Juan, never came by to ask how we were doing or to fill our water. He seemed totally disinterested in serving us, with no enthusiasm whatsoever, a complete lack of energy in all he did. When he finally returned after we were done eating, I expressed my disappointment about my lunch (which I wish I could have told him sooner so maybe I could have tried something else), and thankfully he removed my meal from the bill. He also apologized for abandoning us at our table. (Adding that nobody even came over to re-fill our salsa, and my mom had to ask the girl helping Juan twice for a refill.) Overall I was really let down by this experience. I love Mexican food and I was excited to come here. I still pressed the 18% tip button when I checked out because my mom enjoyed her tacos, however when I reviewed the receipt after I left I found that their calculator includes the food AND Connecticut state tax as the basis for their tip calculation! Unacceptable!! When businesses do this, it really upsets me. I'm mad at myself for not inputting my own tip, but I honesty did not feel good after lunch. I've been burping constantly since I left and I can tell that the food I ate has upset the balance of the my microbiome =( I feel like I have plastic in my stomach. I will not come back to the restaurant and I'm hesitant to recommend it. Wish we went to our usual Mexican spots instead (Ochos, Puerto Vallarta).

I was polite but inquisitive about why my order was missing the 2 other fajitas. Bartender put me on hold and stated the kitchen put our three orders together in one box. When I said why would they put three seperate fajitas in one box. Her response was "why not?" with a condescending attitude. When I arrived and showed the cooks and servers my portion and the fact it was missing peppers and onions. I told them I was treated very disrespectfully on the phone and the server replied that was not me and I said okay it's really unacceptable to talk to people this way!! I told them that you do not serve three separate meals for three seperate people to share their takeout in 1 box. Well the bartender was overhearing and walked over to let me know it was her on the phone and got into a full blown argument with me in front of her two customers at the bar and the 1 table sitting and eating. I am talking yelling back and forth across the restaurant. Absolute maddening, disgusting, disrespectful, person. Trying to make me feel like shit that I am complaining? Literally made fun of me, mocking me for complaining I didn't get peppers and onions. It was absolutely shocking I had to compose myself because she even mocked me when I said I had my baby in the car and had to return here and she said "wow you left your baby in the car alone" And I told her no my friend who stayed outside waiting 20min for you to mess up her take out is in the car with my baby. Again all in front of her other customers. Disgusting.
