Excellent! We were greeted warmly immediately upon entering. The smell was fantastic. The food was crazy inexpensive and absolutely delicious. 10/10! The nachos were LOADED, my burrito was the size of a small infant and the enchiladas were delightful. Rice and beans second to none. The churros were a perfect end to an even more perfect meal. The dining area is definitely no frills but clean and welcoming and with food this good, the bells and whistles aren't necessary. Angel was super helpful and polite answering our questions and helping us navigate the expansive menu. Everything tasted fresh and made with love and pride. I ordered takeout today (Friday) at 4:45pm for an early dinner. I called and ordered over the phone, and was told the order would be ready for pickup in 15 minutes. Steak burrito: this was my favorite. It was filled with steak, rice, beans and pico. This was shared with another person. Guacamole with chips: this was good, as well. I ended up adding more lime that came with the tacos. Steak taco: it was good, but dry. I added guacamole to it. Shrimp taco: the shrimp was nice and juicy and there was a spicy sauce on it. Flan: I really liked this flan compared to some other local places. It was very smooth and creamy. Churros: basic churros, but it didn't come with anything. It didn't say it came with a dipping sauce, but I expected some - but that's my bad. I personally did not pick up the order, so cannot comment on the space, but I am familiar with the location. Have eaten in and done takeout. The service is friendly and sincere. It's not your usual fast food , as all items on the menu require the personal touch ( a bit of time). The torta (steak) was outstanding, Excellent flavors . My wife loves burritos, but for 2 dollars more the burritos bowl was the way to go. Every thing a great burrito has, in a bowl. And frankly more of everything without the tortilla. For those so inclined, a Dispensary is in the same plaza. No alcohol, may be able to BYOB, call ahead. read more

Food was quick and tasty- my daughter was very happy with her nacho fries (with ground beef) and churros and I tried the carne asada tacos . It also came with free chips and salsa . Our order was to go. Cashier was friendly and helpful. It's a smaller place but enough seating to grab a quick bite. Very similar menu to others in Meriden except a few things, molcajete does not have alcohol and does not have carnitas/al pastor. But Molcajete's tortillas are charred which was a nice surprise! Since I live on the East side I'm very happy with this new addition. They even have chicken nuggets so I can appease my toddlers. And their fries are the thin cut ones so again my toddlers will actually eat them (unlike the competing places that do the bigger fries they won't eat) so I will definitely be back to try more. The birria pizza is intriguing and will probably be my next try. Now just hope they get their liquor license so we can grab a margarita as well read more

A lovely family owned and operated restaurant that offers truly authentic Mexican cuisine made from Madre's wonderful recipes. You will find dishes here that you will find nowhere else. After our first visit, Molcajete has become our favorite Mexican restaurant. Take out appears to be very popular. The dining area may rather small but still we enjoy the atmosphere and interaction with the family. I would not be surprised if they expand the dining area in the near future. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday at this small family-owned and operated business and were warmly greeted by our server on entering. There are a pair of tables on the outside patio and the temperature hovered around 75 degrees, but we opted to occupy one of the inside booths. Our server soon brought us menus, took our drink order and provided us with tortilla chips and a pair of salsas, most notably a delicious salsa verde. A variety of street tacos are offered though our favorite, al pastor/adobada, is not included. Not a problem as we each soon settled on one each carne asada and pollo asado. Though authentic, we found each to be a bit dry though that problem was quickly offset with liberal doses of their delicious salsas. A return visit should be expected. read more

I've been coming here since they opened and the people are always so nice and welcoming. I have never been disappointed by the food and it always exceeds my expectations! Side note, their clay drinking cups make for an unreal water experience!!! (I love water) on top of everything, the prices are very reasonable! One of the best in town for sure! read more

you are absolutely missing out if you have not been to molcajete yet! i was really craving mexican and wanted to try somewhere new. this small, family owned business is one of a kind, seriously! my sister ordered a lemonade and i got a mango agua fresca that was so refreshing and came in these large glasses, which both were under $3 each, that's a great price! I wanted to try something different and opted for a machete with barbacoa- my life was changed after that first bite. the barbacoa was tender, juicy and paired perfectly with the whole meal. i can't stop thinking about it! my sister got a carne asada burrito that was packed and insanely good. it was truly spectacular how fresh and appetizing each entree was, i am so happy to have discovered this place! and of course we got a sweet treat - churros filled with caramel paired with a chocolate dipping sauce that was out of this world. the staff was so kind and gave us some pie to try on the house, also really good! i can't wait to come back and try more! i cannot reccomend this place enough! read more

I can't say enough about this local gem of a restaurant! The food was amazing and I'm already planning on going back again today. They serve a side of chips and salsa with there burritos. I absolutely loved the sauces as they were very flavorful. The staff is amazing, helpful and friendly. I got a sample of the hibiscus tea and loved the flavors. I became aware of this new spot on July 25 and made my first stop-in on July 26. It did not disappoint. This is authentic, family prepared Mexican. The carne asada burrito was outstanding. It was served with a small side of house made chips and salsa and comes with sour cream and their own red and green hot sauces for garnish. At $12.00 it was more than fairly priced. The owners and staff were extremely welcoming and service was fast on my walk-in visit. I had my burrito in about 8 minutes, after arriving just before noon lunch time with out calling ahead. The menu covers all the basics but I am particularly interested in returning to try the Machete pictured on this page! Don't give your money to Chipotle down the street. Molcajete has everything you need and it's family owned. I highly recommend supporting this small business. read more

An authentic family run Mexican restaurant with an interesting menu with traditional items and Mexican items I have seen before. we had the barrier tacos that were very tasty and the Pazole which was a large portion with lots of meat and harmony and vegetables, beef, beef, and chicken. The staff is very friendly. Guacamole was delicious. It is a small place with a few tables, but they do wait on you or you can come and take it out. It is also very clean. read more
