I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. For at least 10 years, I've suffered the physical effects of daytime and nighttime jaw clenching. For several years, I've been experiencing regular 24 hour/day migraines for several days at a time. My headaches, neck and shoulder pain were interfering with my ability to sleep for more than a few hours each night. After the first therapy session, my pain level went from a 10 down to a 2 (on a scale in 1-10). During the 3 weeks following that session, I experienced 2 headaches that each lasted for part of a day and were treatable with ibuprofen. My jaw felt relaxed in a way that I hadn't felt in more than 10 years - the pain, pressure and tension were relieved. My sleep started to improve after 5 years of poor sleep, as I could suddenly fall asleep again after most wakings. A few weeks later, I returned for another session. I can't rate my pain now because the pain is gone. I haven't had a headache or even felt the suggestion of an oncoming headache. I feel occasional tightness in my neck. No headaches.
