My long-time nail tech had the nerve to move back to California to take care of her mother. She was always so selfish like that. LOL. I was depressed at the thought of having to find a new nail salon home. It is difficult breaking in nail techs. I had bounced around nail salons in Lawrence and never felt like it was the right fit for me. Some salons treat you like cattle and you are just a number. Other salons do a halfway job and do not really care about quality. I was exasperated. I checked out YELP and saw the reviews for this salon so I took the dive and made an appointment. I actually had to reschedule and the tech was very nice about my schedule bump. I finally made it to the salon and I was actually a bit late. Again, no problem. No rolled eyes, no harsh words.. they were all very accommodating. My tech gave me a pink-and-white fill, just like I requested. She was very personable, caring and concerned about whether I liked my nails or not. She was always conscientious and attentive. The funny thing is... I did not get her name but I think it was Mahyouk. I did not get a pedicure so I cannot speak to those services but my fill was just what I wanted. The salon is nicely decorated and very large. They have modern equipment and a custom ventilation system so there is minimal acrylic dust and polish smell. I appreciated the little touches. The salon is easy to access and there seemed to be plenty of parking, too. The staff was very friendly and everyone talked to one another. I think they are family and they all laughed easily. I particularly like that aspect of customer service. There was no uptight or nervous vibe about this salon. Friendly, helpful staff. The price for my pink-and-white was very reasonable and even cheaper than other places I've been. I was very pleased all the way around. I will definitely be back and definitely recommend Salon Lotus. read more

If I was rating Salon Lotus compared to my usual place at home, I'd give them 4 stars, but they get a bump up for handling my group with grace. My brother decided to move to KS and get married in Lawrence. I've never been to Lawrence; just in town for the wedding. I had also never met the new nieces I was acquiring via this marriage so I thought that a girls' afternoon of mani/pedis would be a nice bonding opportunity. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find a salon that could accommodate 4-6 people at a time. I called multiple salons, which wasn't easy given the time difference. By the time I finish my work day, salons in the Midwest are closed. So I sent out a request via Yelp; Salon Lotus is one that responded. It took some creativity, but they could manage our group and were easy to work with in making the reservation. I paid a small deposit via credit card to secure our spot. Our visit got off to a little bit of a rocky start because we were late (GPS failure, although I did call en route). It seemed that the ladies who worked here were irritated with us because we were taking a minute to decide on colors, which I understood since we were late, but I also was bringing them a good chunk of business so I was a bit annoyed. What can I say? Weddings plus travel create stress. Nonetheless, we all got over it and then had a great time together. I had 4 girls ages 6-14 with me so it was a dynamic group. I loved the fact that they have a room upstairs where we could all get pedicures in a row while staying out of the way of other patrons. We got to chatting with the owners and realized it was a family business. The ladies were so great with my nieces. I can't praise them enough for knowing how to handle little wiggly girls and making them feel special. We all got good manis/pedis and had a fun time together. I'm grateful to Salon Lotus for helping us to make a great memory! Major points for one of the gals encouraging age-appropriateness when my niece wanted acrylics. I was trying to discourage that because the kid is 12 and it's just unnecessary IMO. There are plenty of people who would've seized an opportunity to upsell, knowing that I was a little bit over a barrel given the occasion, but that didn't happen here. Instead, she just praised my niece for how pretty she is on her own and reinforced my message of natural nails looking better. I appreciate that more than words can express. I'm not sure when I'll be back for a visit, but I'll happily bring more business to Salon Lotus when I'm back in town. read more

I went in to get a dip manicure. I don't know if maybe this is something they just don't do often or what but my nails were very bulky, uneven, and discolored. I went home and had to re-buff and file them. I can't believe paid for $50 for these nails. I know I should have said something while still at the salon but was just so ready to be out of there. read more

After just moving to kansas from California I spent many days reading reviews for lash extensions at different places in the area. I booked a lash appointment at salon lotus and also got a new acrylic set once I was done. I was very nervous trying a new place being I've always used the same place back home. But wow did I pick a good place to go! I was extremely pleased with the services provided. The ladies were so friendly made sure everything was good during my time there and were extremely gentle. I was super excited to try this salon, as it came highly recommended by a friend. I was impressed by how kind the staff was, as some nail salons feel very uncomfortable. From the time I walked in until the time I left, everyone I interacted with was friendly. I decided to get a maintenance pedicure (their most basic pedicure), due to being 38 weeks pregnant and unable to reach my toenails these days. I have a latex allergy, and the salon was able to accommodate this. A lot of salons don't actually have non-latex gloves on hand, but my nail tech was happy to put on nitrile gloves for me. Unfortunately, the pedicure did not go well. The nail tech applied what I thought was lotion to my feet, but it turned out to be callous remover. My feet began to burn, but I assumed it was from the warm water and my feet just being a little sensitive after. I noticed red patches, but it looked similar to when you get out of a hot shower and your skin is patchy. She had me rub my feet together with the product on. She continued the pedicure, applying actual lotion, a hot towel, and my polish. When I got home, I realized something had gone terribly wrong. I looked at my feet and saw red patches, some of which were bleeding. When I returned to the salon the next day, the staff was still very friendly. They were initially in denial about what had happened though. They did not want to be up front with me about what had happened. They said my feet were just sensitive and my shoes were irritating my feet. Finally, I talked with the actual tech that conducted my pedicure. She admitted it was a chemical burn from the callous remover, stating she had gotten it on her arms before. They said it's a powerful chemical, which is why they only leave it on for 3 minutes. I asked them how I should treat it, and they encouraged me to keep putting antibiotic ointment on it. I told them I just needed to avoid infection, due to being so pregnant. The tech was incredibly apologetic, and I could tell she felt terrible. I realize mistakes happen and we are all human. However, had I known how strong the chemical was, I would have asked them not to use it. I think in the future, they should warn people, especially very pregnant women. Additionally, I am unsure as to why callous remover was on the tops and sides of my feet. Had she not asked me to rub my feet together, this may have been avoided. I have had many, many pedicures over the years, and I have never experienced anything remotely close to this. The staff here are very kind, and my actual toes do look nice. However, they did not attempt to rectify the situation, which was a little surprising. I am on day 4 of treating this chemical burn, and it doesn't look great. I likely won't return to this salon again, unfortunately. read more

Disty has done my nails in other locations for several years, and very recently branched out on her own, opening a family business with her sisters in West Lawrence. Salon Lotus is cozy and comfortable, and you don't smell a bit of product anywhere! There is even a private party room upstairs, where you can get together with couples or groups. I have problem toenails, which want to ingrow, and Disty has really helped me keep my feet healthy. The salon offers a range of products and services. I always feel pampered and well-treated even with a mini-pedi. I just had the pleasure of taking a friend there for her first pedi, ever! I'd recommend this nail salon to anyone, because they help you maintain healthy feet and beautiful nails, and because they take extra care with cleaning and disinfecting their equipment. Best kept secret in Lawrence. I have been looking for a nail place in L-town for 8 years and this is it. The place is extremely clean which is my highest priority, they are very accommodating and all their techs did a fantastic job (we had 3 different ones). All were open to feedback and were extremely patient with the toddler we had w us. I would 100% rather make an appointment here than do a walk on visit at ANY of the other places in town .
