I've been in this area roughly 40 years and just got around to going to Louie's today. My husband and I stopped in around 1:40 pm. We were the only ones there besides the gal behind the bar. What immediately was noticable to us was how clean it smelled and looked, it was surprising for a bar. The gal behind the bar waited on us promptly and was super friendly. My husband ordered the breaded Cheeseburger and I got the 1/2 cod fillet dinner. Very nice portions on both meals. The hand battered cod was the very BEST I've ever had and I don't say that lightly as I order fish at a lot of places. My husband tried it too and concurred with me, that's what he is ordering the next time we go! The slaw was really good too, just wish they gave you a little more of it, it pairs so well with the fish. I substituted onions rings for fries and was thrilled with them too. They were battered not breaded and really delicious. I might note that when I order any kind of fried fish I always eat it with A-1 steak sauce. I didn't use the sauce on this fish as it was so stand alone delicious. Husband enjoyed his breaded Cheeseburger and fries. We WILL be back. I have been here a few times, but this is my first review (and it is a review of this visit only). We arrived early and sat in the outdoor patio area so we can see the band. The seats and tables are iron outdoor patio furniture - no cushions. We ordered the fried veggie appetizer. I was disappointed by the small portion; definitely not worth $7. What's worse is that it was undercooked. Some of the coating was mushy on this inside and a couple items were literally cold on the inside. This is definitely unexpected from food that is deep fried. We showed our server how undercooked it was; she offered an apology, but not any kind of credit. Though I did not ask for a credit, I would have appreciated one as a gesture of good customer service. We ordered our food and drank our beverages while waiting. Our cups were nearly empty when our meals arrived, so I expected our server to refill them. NOPE! We had to ration what was left of our drinks as we ate our meal. Our server was too busy to properly care for her tables. I ordered the salad with chopped ham. My companion ordered a hamburger with tater tots. The food was just OK. It was typical food one might find in a dive bar. We were so underwhelmed that left without seeing the band, which is the reason we went there in the first place. We went to McDonald's down the street for iced tea and then headed home for the evening. I felt sick to my stomach about an hour after we got home. We may return for drinks and entertainment, but we will NOT be eating here again. read more

I've been coming to this place for many years now and it's all you can ask for in a pub with TVs, a jukebox and an outdoor patio. It's a great spot to catch some sun or just grab drinks with friends. Tons of beer on tap, which just adds to the appeal. Head to the back deck and you can kill a whole day before you even realize it. I set at the bar and ordered a breaded Tenderloin which was ok BUT, I had to set there and watch the cook eat a large sandwich while cooking and sometimes chewing with his mouth open !!! It was disgusting, I will not be going back. read more

Would have loved better service, but both waitresses were eatin dinner and too busy to notice we needed things. Like who eats behind bars and shit? First impressions say a lot. If you enjoy suffocating on cigarette smoke, getting rude service, and just generally feeling unwelcomed then this is the place for you! I wish I could review the food but I'm afraid the service said it all in a matter of ten minutes before we got up and left. She started off her hello with an irritated, "I need to see your IDs" after she confirmed that we were indeed over 21, she then stated with even more irriation, "If you want any drinks, I can't bring them to you because one of our servers called in sick so you have to come to the bar." Now don't get me wrong, I'm no hater, I walked in the doors with optimism. Being short-staffed is one thing, but making us feel like a nuisance to the apparently overwhelmed waitress that had a whopping 4 tables to take (un)care of is another. They do have an outdoor patio from which I've heard loud bands play on the weekends. That could be fun. But let's just say the restaurant/pub/service isn't their thing. read more

This is a neighborhood bar not on Lake Wawasee frequented by a friendly mix of customers. For years the patrons could smoke inside. Not anymore ! This bar is now smoke free. The menu is mainly bar food. Appetizers,sandwiches and baskets. My favorite is the Friday nite fish special. Not AUCE but very good. Nice mix of cold beer on tap and a bar able to make your cocktail of choice. Good service ,a productive kitchen and friendly company. read more

We go to the Wednesday night all u can eat wings. These are great wings. Casual atmosphere, and the staff is freindly. There is an outdoor covered patio. On occasions bands will play. . It is a smoking establishment. read more

I would truly like to leave no stars with my review but that isn't an option. I am a 25 year resident of Syracuse and for many years Louie's was a favorite, with good food and good service. I'm sad to say those days are gone. Under new management Louie's certainly wasn't as good as it once was but after our last visit I can say that we will not go back. Our server was rude, didn't smile, and treated us as an annoyance. The sandwiches were served on small coffee size plates with no garnishment whatsoever; very unappealing, and as for the breaded mushroom appetizer, we received 6 small greasy mushrooms in a basket for $3.50. Undoubtedly the worst dining out experience this year! Last night we tried Pie Eyed Peetys and it was everything Louie's used to be; great food, friendly welcoming service, and a basket nearly full of large, crisp, non-greasy breaded mushrooms. I agree with Anthony. His almost exact situation happened to us when we went there. Cigarette smoke plumes from this place and the older waitress was quiet rude. She couldn't bring us our drinks because we sat outside. Her excuse was the next shift was starting in 15 minutes and she was there by herself. The waitress that came after the 15 minute no service wait was very pleasant. She checked up on us regularly and made sure we had everything we needed. Despite the service at first the food was surprisingly better than the frog's in my opinion which is just down the road. I got the 5 piece fish and it was amazingly good, and cheap too as it was the special. I rate this 2 stars for snotty old lady waitress/the insane amount of cigarette smoke inside and out. read more

Guys, the two pork chop dinner is fantastic for a home town bar and grill... the bar fish is also good... as long as the fans are running the smoke level is acceptable... if they aren't running just ask the wait staff. read more
