The service was great and the food was phenomenal. First timer and didn't know it was cash only. Luckily had some on us. The inside has some photos of the history of the building and just felt cozy. They were so busy that day they did have to close early but because they ran out of food, which is a great problem to have! Will definitely be coming back! read more

Staff ARE VERY RUDE!!! Kitchen staff are EXTREMELY RUDE and take it on themselves to come out on the floor to be rude to customers. I seen the kitchen staff Monday morning came out and was rude to A HANDICAP Individual because he turned the vent in the ceiling off from blowing down on him!!! Syracuse Cafe is the real deal. I had a smoked pork chop for lunch that was PERFECT. Could not be better. Slice and eat. My colleagues had the tenderloin that was amazing. Cash only. Several tacky signs here will tell you so. My husband likes to eat breakfast there at least once a year because of the eclectic (or lack there of) atmosphere. Ha. I find their food fine for basic breakfast food and a large menu. However, it's their way or the highway. Servers are pretty rough around the edges. On a recent Saturday morning, we witnessed a customer that tried to order two items that they didn't have (don't make on the weekend the server said). He said 'guess I won't be coming back here'. The waitress very animated pointed to the door and then loudly went off on the guy. The whole restaurant went silent and listened. The customers (party of 4-5) stayed and I actually heard the gentleman apologize to the waitress when paying and all she said was 'everyone had a bad day'. I believe the waitress was in the wrong and she should have apologized as well. This is certainly not a 'the customer comes first place'. I told my hubby that he can come back on his own. Many locals eat here. My hubby just laughed and said he got his money's worth of entertainment. read more

Syracuse Cafe, I was hoping for better food. Went on Sunday morning with friends. Coffee was typical diner coffee. Not great, but at least hot. I ordered two eggs, bacon, toast, "American" fried potatoes (?) and a side of biscuits and gravy. My partner ordered a pancake, eggs and biscuits and gravy. The eggs were okay and the bacon was cooked as requested, crisp. The potatoes, I wasn't sure what to expect. They weren't really home fries and I had never heard of "American fried potatoes" before. Whatever they were, they were undercooked and not seasoned at all. No onions, not much flavor. The biggest disappointment was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was extremely salty. Almost inedible. It was sort of hard to believe that everything was basically un-seasoned except the gravy which had way too much salt in it. Two stars because service was okay and because my partner liked that they heated the maple syrup for her pancake. I will look for other breakfast options the next time I am in the area. read more

Been going to this place for 30years. Went other day at 1:15 and closed sign was hanging. Entered to meet friend who had ordered and was eating my and found a plate of food on table that they told my friend was what was available because they were closed even though they post open till 1:30. With that I was told that the plate on the table was what was available for me and wife to eat because they wanted to close. We left to a very loud and huffy owner. Nothing new. read more

Standard small town diner! The food was delicious! But definitely not fancy, so don't step in here thinking you're going to be served calamari. It's cheap & tasty and perfect for a hangover! ;-) I was with a group of 6 and everyone loved their food. This is a easy to find local spot with friendly, efficient service and affordable but mediocre food. We really wanted to like it - and the Western omelette was good - but the pancakes were kind of mushy and under-done and the egg portions were very small. Probably will not go back here again. read more

I went in this morning to get some breakfast--long time Syracuse resident. I have never experienced the type of rudeness I did today. The lady taking our order spoke to me as if I was the dirt beneath her shoe. Maybe she thought I was a laker? Wow. I feel bad for the cooks and staff if they have to put up with her attitude all day. read more

Food was okay. Pretty standard diner fare. We had burgers and a tenderloin. The issue was the service. We came in and sat down and the server came out and the first words out of her mouth were that they had no oatmeal or poached eggs and that the grill was off so she was going to have to go back and announce that we had come in. We immediately offered to leave but she said we could stay. This was at 1:14 pm and they close at 1:30 pm. We ordered right away and food came out fast. Started eating and she came back quickly to clear the plates (before we were done) and then started vacuuming. We left at 1:35 pm so we ate that quickly with kids! It was really obvious they did not want us there. Also the employees were sitting at a table loudly talking about some of their frustrations with their doctor and using language not appropriate in front of kids. We definitely won't be back and I wish we had just left without eating there. read more
