On my first visit, Dr. Calvano made a thorough assessment of me and immediately was able to tell me what was wrong. I've been to other chiropractors that have diagnosed me without even really trying to find out what was wrong and then force me into signing a contract and lock me into seeing them. Dr. Calvano was the complete opposite of that! He was straightforward and honest and really took his time to find the root of the problem. After my first visit, I felt a major difference. Before seeing him, I was unable to move and all I felt was pain. After that visit, the pain slowly began to disappear. After about 2 months of seeing him, the pain is now ALL gone. He gave me in home exercises to do and educated me on ways I can improve my office space to put less stress on my lower back. He also gave me home remedies to deal with the pain on my own. What I liked most about Dr. Calvano was that he held me accountable. Remaining consistent with my treatment was very important so he made sure I didn't miss a visit. I recently pulled a muscle in my lower back by simply picking up my 3 year old niece and twisting the wrong way. I was in horrific pain and could barely sit or transition from sit to stand. After 3 days of terrible pain I decided it was time to find a chiropractor in NYC. I found Dr. Calvano through Yelp and loved that one of his recent reviews described an injury similar to mine. He met with me right away and spent an hour assessing my condition. He told me that he could definitely help me and that it would take time and patience, but I would be back on my feet soon. He worked on my back, taught me stretches that I needed to do each morning and night, helped me implement a heating pad routine, and suggested I wear a back brace. Within 2 days I was feeling a lot better. The pain was still there, but I could resume most of my daily activities. I still have spells with the pain comes back, but Dr. Calvano has taught me how to manage this between sessions. He even got me approved for an at home muscle stimulator that helps a lot! I live in the Forest Hills area, but I work in mid-town Manhattan. A friend of mine at my office suggested that I see her chiropractor when my headaches returned. She told me that Dr. Calvano worked wonders on her neck pain and insisted I try him. I had been to so many other doctors and had so many tests and I was still hurting. I was skeptical but I figured I had nothing to lose, since very little else had helped. I knew Dr Calvano from 6 years ago when I turned up in his office in early October with a perforated disc. Not only did he identify the problem and address my the searing sciatica pain in my leg and lower bag, he also got me to the start line of my first NYC marathon. He is one of the most genuine and committed professionals I've attended. He has an innate ability to understand a problem and how to help with resolving the problem and alleviate the pain. I'm writing this review because I hurt my right leg 2 weeks ago which resulted in a significant lump/contusion/hematoma on my leg which caused severe swelling, bruising and pain not only in the area but up my leg and lower back. I went to my internist and emergency care and without even physically (touching) the area, they suggested I elevate and ice it. However the pain worsened, I was becoming immobile and desperate for some relief, I contacted Dr Calvano. I've seen him 3 times and my leg is showing marked improvements thanks to him and his work. A true healer. Highly recommended. I have seen a few chiropractors in the past for my lower back pain, and although they were able to resolve the issue, the pain and soreness would come back over time. Feeling doubtful about seeing a chiropractor again, I decided to just do my stretching exercises instead, until I sprained my back again while recovering from a microscopic knee surgery. Through Dr. Calvano's initial assessment session (lots of questions and movement testing), he was able to locate the root of my problem. The culprit turned out to be a damaged tendon I suffered long ago, causing other areas of my back to compensate, which contributed to my constant lower back issues. He was very up-front about his proposed treatment. Based on the assessment, he was confident that he could help and suggested 3 weeks of treatment sessions to see how it goes. I thought I give it a shot, and I was so glad I did. By the end of the 3-week treatment, the pain level had lessened, and my flexibility had improved tremendously. My experience with Dr. Louis Calvano has been exceptional. As soon as you walk into his office, the peaceful, relaxing, clean, and soothing ambient of the office already gives you the impression that you will be treated in a holistic, careful, efficient and respectful way. I had a shoulder injury that was very painful. I was very scared thinking that my injury wouldn't be improved with chiropractic treatment. He put me at ease by first explaining in a very thorough way every part of my body that is involved in my shoulder's movement and showing me images of these parts so I could clearly see what was happening with my shoulder. A few years ago I took a hard fall in a soccer game, which hurt my low back. I gave a week or two to see if it would settle down, but it only worsened over time. Dr. Calvano helped my body help itself. That may seem ridiculously simple but it's a fact. And it only took a few weeks to feel that my body was in harmony with itself again. No more pain! I was able to walk easier, move more freely, go up and down stairs - especially getting on and off the bus and climbing subway stairs - like I used to do. Dr. Calvano is a teacher. He demonstrated what was happening in the painful areas of my body and why it was happening. And because of his clear demonstrations and explanations, I deliberately watched how I was moving and bending; I paid attention to what he showed me for a couple of days. I've been going to Dr. Lou Calvano for about 20 years and he always has helped me with my neck, back, side issues. When we're hurting and need results Dr Calvano has a kind, attentive, compassionate approach. He has solved my problems and time is the test so I can recommend him unequivocally. When he was on E. 89 street I could easily walk there but now I have to take the subway or express bus. Not an issue really considering I know my problem will be resolved. Dr. Calvano told me that I should do "self care" meaning do the exercises he suggests and the moist heat or heating pad daily because waiting one week between visits is too long. This was exactly what I needed to hear and do. My issue with the muscle on the side above the hip is getting better immediately since I started doing my exercises my self care. I never ever do reviews, but this was way too surreal. I was told that I had a "curved spine" in 2012 by a chiropractor in Brooklyn, and there was nothing he could do for me, except have me come in for massages. I never went back! I suffered immensely, and there were days when I couldn't bend or go to work. I then met Chiropractor Louis Calvano in February 2019 after foing some research. Cured! Dr. Calvano, is Amazing! Not only does he explain all aspects of what your issues are, but he also works with you to create a better all-around environment to help alleviate future discomfort. I went to see him on the recommendation of a colleague, and we worked through a chronic sciatic nerve issue. When I initially met with him in 2016, I had such excruciating lower back and neck pain, I needed extended time to put my feet on the floor and stand up from my bed every morning. After 3 years, my lower back pain is GONE, and my neck pain is significantly reduced. Dr. Calvano does and amazing job! I had lower back issues for over two years after injuring it weightlifting. Even after the initial injury, where i could barely move, i still had pain putting on my shoes. I have always had issues with my back. General tightness was typical, but I would also have episodes every 4-6 weeks when my upper back would "go out" while doing something as mundane as picking up my niece. I would have a rush of pain, and I knew I would spend the next 4-5 days barely able to move or turn my head. I have been a patient of Dr. Calvano for almost 20 years. Last wednesday I had an appointment with the dr. at 2:45 to treat a severe pain in the groin area. I arrived early at 1:45.
