I'm currently going through a really nasty custody battle out in NJ with my ex-husband. I needed…read morean attorney that understood not only PA law but NJ law as well. There were a few attorneys that came up with great ratings, but they didn't seem to be overly concerned with how my current matter was being handled. See I have an NJ attorney already but he only practiced in NJ and didn't have a license to practice in PA. So he wasn't familiar with PA laws and what options I had in Philadelphia. My ex and I both lived in Philadelphia for the past year and had a custody order based out of NJ that my ex filed a counter motion against. I needed someone to help me understand my rights with both PA and NJ. When I first called Mr. Kirby and explained my situation he stated that because I had a current attorney in NJ that he couldn't really discuss the case not because he wasn't allowed to but because of integrity and respect for his fellow attorney. This is the first I heard any attorney say to me. The rest were ready to have me fire my current attorney and take over the matter in which I wasn't comfortable with. That initial phone call made my decision for me because most attorneys are looking to get more money from you while he was giving me his honest feedback and your integrity is everything. I immediately scheduled an in person consultation with him. After meeting with Mr. Kirby, he completely put me at ease and regained my confidence back with my current case. My NJ attorney is great but because he didn't understand PA law it was difficult to understand my rights and what procedures needed to be followed.
