While traveling from Utah to Georgia I was passing through Cortez CO just in time for lunch. Decided on the Lougin Lizard. The place looked very clean and like it was a fun local hang out. After reading over the menu trying to narrow down options we decided on the blackened Mahi-Mahi tacos, The Cuban and then nachos as an appetizer. The waiter was very kind and was there to answer any questions we had. The food came out fairly quick and the portions sizes were great. The tacos had amazing flavor and were cooked to perfection. The Cuban was overflowing with meet and flavor but beware the pickles on this Cuban were very hot but if you like hot then this is for you. The menu was higher priced for what we ordered and for the competing restaurants near by but overall was satisfied. read more

Don't go here. I ordered a $26 shrimp vodka pasta and the sauce tasted like boiled water. Worse than a jar. The shrimp was actually good, but I wouldn't have eaten it if the server actually came to check on me. I was starving because I hadn't eaten since early morning after going to Mesa Verde. Some other woman came to get our plates and saw I had a full plate of pasta and said nothing, so we had to speak up and tell her it wasn't good since no one checked on us the whole time. She asked if I wanted something else and I said no because I didn't want to chance the other meal being flavorless as well. My fiancé's potatoes also had no flavor. Can't believe they're charging so much for food that has no seasoning. I asked them to comp the pasta and that's when the server actually came over, but only to tell me they couldn't comp it because I ate the shrimp and "that was half the price." I only ate the shrimp because I was so hungry and I didn't have a chance to even ask for something else. She gave us 50% off, which I guess is fine? It still was super aggressive and rude since I was never even asked how my food was. I also ordered an amaretto sour which tasted like it was watered down with sour. We literally stumbled upon Loungin' Lizard after our original restaurant choice had a 40 minute wait. So glad we decided to walk down the street! We had a large, socially distanced table by the bar. Two entrees, two beers, a glass of wine and dessert came to around $70 with tip. It was all absolutely delicious and service was spot on. My main problem was just trying to figure out what I wanted as so many menu options sounded delicious! I ended up having the (deconstructed) chicken pot pie with a house salad. The salad is just massive. It has a spicy dressing that doesn't really hit you until you're a few bites in. Tortilla chips are sprinkled on top. Got the salted caramel chocolate torte to go. The torte was so moist. It was a very rich dessert but so delicious. I appreciate their ability & willingness to modify for food allergies. Well, the food was great! The service was great, once we got passed the attitude of the woman that sat us. We asked for a table by a window where we could see our vehicle was parked. We had to leave it running so our dog could have AC inside. The only table with view was a large one reserved for parties of five. Three other tables had people seated, so not busy by any means. We explained to her why we needed that particular table. When we told her we had our dog in the vehicle, she responded with a curt, "That's your choice. Staying in an Airbnb in Cortez and according to our hosts, this was one of the best spots to grab some food. I'm not a local and I haven't sampled anything else nearby but I found myself enjoying the atmosphere and vibe more than I enjoyed the food to be honest. It's a nice relaxed spot with a bar. We loved chillin on the comfy couches and being able to view the chalk board style menu. I'm rating the interior a 5/5. It's functional but stylish and comfortable. The waiter came by to grab our orders and I decided to start with a Caesar salad. I asked if they could add some tomato and the waiter was so thrown by this! He was like "I've gotta check with the kitchen first." Ummmm?! lol just to add some tomato? Why is that so complicated? Anyways, the kitchen granted my request and added tomato but the salad didn't quite impress me. Their caesar dressing was quite bland. I did however really like the croutons but once they were gone, my remaining salad had zero pizazz. Moving on... We ordered the tomato Florentine smoked mushroom pizza to share. This pie has major potential. It was tasty but lacked mushrooms. Because the name mushroom appears in the title, I expect to get a piece on each bite. I didn't but it was still a pleasant lunch. Came here on a recommendation from a local shop owner. The menu has a good variety. The atmosphere was upbeat as the Kentucky Derby was just getting ready to run. I had the south west salad with steak very tasty. Nice mix of textures and flavors. The Steak was cooked perfectly. Cilantro lime dressing was tasty. I very seldom post while sitting at the table of a restaurant. This is no way worth the ratings I see on here. We ordered two $21 bison and pork belly burgers medium rare. We got two well done dry burgers with some microwaved bacon. The only thing worth eating here was the overpriced $13 pulled pork nachos. Came with 6 nachos on the plate. I was a little bummed that they didn't offer flights. I had the fish tacos. They were pretty good. My daughter didn't care for her fried ravioli. They were a bit hard. My son is a picky eater. He ordered the cheese pizza from the kid's menu. I wasn't aware that they were going to sprinkle it with seasoning, so he refused to eat it. With picky eaters, we keep it simple. Guys if you are ever driving through this is a 10/10 MUST STOP. We had there chili chicken cheese fries cleaned the plate. Blackened mahi tacos with spinach salad hit the spot right, and the elk Shepards pie was to die for! What topped our time there was the chocolate torte desert and the absolutely amazing service we had! What a great find! While driving to Moab from New Mexico we stopped here for lunch. The service was great and the food delicious. The have a sign that say we serve fresh food and not fast food and they are correct. I had the spicy buffalo chicken sandwich and it was quite large and the chicken was perfectly cooked and moist and quite yummy. My husband had the open face meatloaf sandwich and again a large sandwich. Both sandwich were delicious. I would definitely recommend stopping by when you're in town and I don't think you'll be disappointed read more

Neat place in the middle of Cortez we have been interested in trying since last time we passed through. It was pretty yummy! Service was a little slow & awkward since we were put on the patio completely alone... but that's okay, that was our choice. Burger and pork on it was way over cooked (ordered medium rare) which is extremely unfortunate because it was absolutely delicious otherwise. As were the tacos. I wouldn't order the truffle fries again as they were underwhelming and almost no different than the fries that came with my burger... but the little bit of cheese that was on them was delectable. read more

Amazing, amazing service and soooo respectful of the pandemic guidelines. Loungin lizard is setting the best example! I can only imagine how difficult it is to survive in the pandemic on top of being a tourist town. They have a great outdoor patio with lots of shade. They remind you when and where to wear a mask. Ask that you respect their table distancing and stay a good distance away from you. On top of it it's really hard to talk through a mask and I never had an issue with hearing anyone. Loungin lizard reminds me of what an Applebee's is supposed to be. In the sense this is the comfort food and flavors I always wanted from them but Applebee's could never deliver. We got the green chili chicken tacos and the country fried chicken. Soooo good. They clearly use high quality ingredients. I ate every last bite of our entrees. This was the only place in Cortez that was open late night on sunday. For a small town restaurant, this place is pretty good. they have all their items on a blackboard, and will update accordingly throughout the day if they sell out of a particular item. When we stopped by, we ended up ordering the chicken pot pie and a elk Shepard pie. Originally, i wanted to get meatloaf, but they ran out of that, and the fiancée wanted to get the chicken pot pie with Caesar salad... but they ran out of both the meatloaf and the Caesar salad. as we waited for the food, i ordered a orange julius martini, and holy shit... this was by far the major selling point for me. I love orange creamsicle drinks, and this martini tasted exactly like it. as for the elk shepherd pie and the chicken pot pie, both dishes were hearty and filling. I don't know if i would order the elk pie again, as the mashed potatoes covered the flavor of elk, and thus not making it worth $17... however the chicken pot pie, was a great comfort food and priced just right. as mentioned in the prior paragraph, we didn't get the Caesar salad with the pot pie, but got the southwestern salad instead.. and i think it was a better choice.
